Did Cliff Fabri leak this out? I don't why it is so hard for Avril to release all the unreleased songs in one album to call it like "My Music Secret" or something The thing people don't understand is they are not her songs to release. She doesn't own the rights to them, whatever label she recorded them with does. I don't know what happened to the LG and UMS Bsides once Arista folded, perhaps they went to RCA, but everything belongs to either RCA (TBDT, GL) or Epic (AL, 6th album) and the only way Avril can ever own the rights to them is if she buys them all back and can then do what she pleases. I don't think she has any interest in buying back her own songs and they were unreleased for a reason. I'm sure there's a few she would like fans to be able to hear but most of them she probably doesn't think are any good and doesn't want them out in the public. The label probably won't release them until she's dead and they can make lots of money off of it. Sad but true. Especially now that her fanbase is declining only her most hardcore fans would buy it and they probably think it won't make that much money.

Yeah, and I wonder why they're called "B sides" when they weren't officially released. Aren't they more like bootlegs?

Yeah, and I wonder why they're called "B sides" when they weren't officially released. Aren't they more like bootlegs? You're right. I guess people are just using b-side for any songs that didn't make the final album. Potential bsides, I suppose you could say

I really don't know the history or "backstory" to them. Anybody out there know their story?

I really don't know the history or "backstory" to them. Anybody out there know their story? There's not really much to tell. They were just some early songs she wrote for Let Go. They had a much poppier sound from what she ended up going with, which was obviously more rock driven. There is a demo version of Things I'll Never Say that has a pop beat to it, for instance. And I guess in the end Avril didn't like the pop sound so none of those songs were chosen for the album.

Having more unreleased songs is always a bonus as a longtime fan but I wasn't too fond of the pre/Let Go b-sides so I can do without more. "Think about it" sticks out most lol. I think my favorite recording was "falling into history" and I was pretty disappointed when I saw that she wasn't in any way involved in the writing of it.

But if the 300k is the production cost, what would it cost to just buy those songs? Surely not the same?
Just wondering because I have some extra cash on my account but not 300K lol.

Wow.. that was awful, thank God she changed it to the album version. To be honest I like both versions of it. The pop version is cool. They did some different things with the arrangement in that version as well, like you can hear more "la da da das" in the background of the final chorus and it sounds really cool. But if the 300k is the production cost, what would it cost to just buy those songs? Surely not the same? Just wondering because I have some extra cash on my account but not 300K lol. I have no idea how much it would cost to purchase the songs. Given how famous Avril is, I imagine it comes at a pretty hefty price. It might not be 300k for only 4 songs but it could be literally thousands I'm sure for them. Early Avril Lavigne demos? Yeah that's gonna run high. And like I said, I'm not sure what happened to them once Arista folded.

Not all of the Let Go era non-album tracks that we've heard were actually recorded for that album. Some of them were from when she was being shopped around to labels, some of them were trial songwriting collaborations and some of them were her recording random songwriters' tracks. They weren't all recorded under that budget!

Sounds like you have some inside scoop. Who recorded them? And one song it sounds like a vinyl copy, scratches and all......

Avril was never shopped around to labels though? Her plan was that she made an arrangement with Peter Zizzo to record a demo in the summer of 2000 in NYC. She was there for a few days which is when they wrote Why and probably a couple other songs. LA Reid heard she was in town and came to see her. He signed her to Arista on the spot after hearing her sing. She was initially signed as a singer only and convinced them to let her write. Yes the part about her initially singing other people's songs is true, which is why there are some tracks like Falling Into History that don't have her name in the writing credits. But she never completed that demo or shopped around for labels. She was signed to a 2 album deal with Arista immediately.
