I wonder if €50,000 headphones still make your ears hot after wearing them for a while. Anyway, there's me with my €20 earphones. But at least they're from Sennheiser

Ah, good move. All the headphone posts on there should be moved here Anyways I mainly use Audio-Technica M50s. On my phone I use Razer Hammerheads. Right now I'm using Logitech G930s to try out wireless.

I wore them for about 5 minutes, so I can't really say if the ears gets hot after a while. But I don't think so, because these headphones are huge, but light-weight and it's an open design, so your ears and head can breathe. Of course this is an extremely luxury product that only 2% of the people can actually afford to buy, but it was awesome to get the chance to try them. We invited some journalists and musicians to try them and they were all amazed! For the daily use I have my Sennheiser MOMENTUM 2 over-ears (wired-version). They cost £269.99 / €319 I also own the Sennheiser MOMENTUM Wireless over-ears . They cost £379.99 / €449. I can't really say why but I prefer the wired version, even though I have to say it's really comfortable to not have a cable. Especially when you are carrying something. But I still prefer the wired version. I use them everyday. @ Harvey: tbh 20€ Sennheiser-headphones are still better than 60€ Sony/Beats headphones. Obviously I support the company I work for, but I honestly have to say that Sennheiser Headphones have a quality that others don't. They may not have the best design or the 'fancy'-factor (like Beats) but if you are looking for high-quality, then look for Sennheiser. IMO Bose is the only company that has has a similar quality (but don't buy there ! ). I never really cared about the quality of headphones before I started working for Sennheiser, but I think once you experienced how good your favourite music can actually sound with a decent pair of headphones, it's almost impossible to go back to your 10€-headphones. But thats makes it really difficult for the Marketing (the department I'm working for), because no matter how good your advertisement-campaign or PR is, nothing can beat the personal experience.

I used to have little suckers for 5€, but honestly I didn't see the point in investing since mine always stopped working on both sides after a few months. But since I've got my iPod I used the EarPods that came with it. The quality is way better and they've already lasted longer than any others I've ever had.

While I was lucky to get some really good headphones with an employee-special-price, I would recommend to anyone to spend a bit more money (~ 35€) for some good in-ears. They balance the sound way better and I'm sure that will cause less damage to your hearing than un-balanced, pitchy in-ears.
I think I already wrote that somewhere here, but an intersting experiece was listening to '17' from Avril with some professional studio headphones. While I cant really stand to listen to the song, because the production hurts my ears, I didnt have this problem when I listened to it with the studio headphones.

Ah I like Sennheiser earphones/headphones. I have some £20 earphones for on the go and and the HD 205 II for when I'm at home (although I don't use them atm, I have a healing tragus and conch which don't take too kindly to headphones).

Thanks for the tip, but God I hate in-ears. I've tried a few different models and I can never get them to stay in my ear, and if I push them too far into my ear canal I'm afraid of seriously injuring myself (which I know makes no biological sense as the ear canal is about 2.5cm long, but hey everyone has their idiosyncrasies) I much prefer earbuds. I have some Sennheiser MX 375s, pretty decent sound for £14 earphones. I don't know how long they'll last compared to the many, many earphones I've owned.

I'm good with my iPhone earbuds ...Apple has improved theirs so much! They used to be very uncomfortable and fell from my ears constantly, not to mention that their sound quality was just okay. Since the iPhone 5, they developed these much more practical earbuds that adapt to all ears and have an amazing sound. I mean it. I'm kind of a sound maniac and have tried on hundreds of earphones and headphones, and these earbuds are easily one of the best ones I've ever listened to. People have even compared them to Bose headphones, saying the Apple ones outshine them. I've even tried on the Beats headphones, and the these earbuds are better. I highly recommend them, you won't be disappointed!

I knew someone who had the Beats headphones (received as a gift) and he said they were good, but he wouldn't have spent the $300 on them himself. Sounds to me like the Beats headphones are probably pretty overrated, especially for the price.
Personally I have a pair of Sony earbuds that I bought for like 10 bucks at a Target store, had 'em for quite a few years and they still hold up pretty well. Not the best sound quality or anything but for cheap earbuds they are fine and have lasted very long IMO. I also use proper headphones for editing music and video, before I had a pair of headphones that came with a recording software package, think the brand is Avid. They are pretty good but I recently bought a separate pair of much better (and more expensive) ones, I now have the Shure SRH440 headphones which were $80. I wanted to get Sennheiser ones because I know how good the brand is in general, but I either couldn't find them at my Guitar Center or they were too expensive (can't remember what the reason was). I like the ones I bought though because they fold up to take up less space and I think the sound quality is still very good.
IMO unless you are like a sound engineer or something for a living, you A) Don't really need $300-$50,000 headphones and B) You wouldn't be able to tell the difference in quality between, say, $80 headphones and $200 headphones. I'm sure for a regular consumer that $80 headphones are perfectly sufficient. IMO unless you've got lots of money to spare, headphones are just at the bottom of my list of things I would consider spending lots of money on, there's definitely much more important things I would spend that money on like a car, house, or something like that. As long as I can get decent sound quality and they are comfortable for my ears and stay on or in, that's good enough for me. I am not extremely picky about it TBH.
Now as far as Sennheiser goes, I actually do use one of their microphones, I own the e835 dynamic mic. I remember Avril used to use them in her early career (if you look closely at some of the performances you can clearly see the brand on the mic she's using), so that's why I decided to try them. It retails for $100 which is a decent price for a good quality mic like that. I believe a lot of pro singers use Sennheiser, actually.

It retails for $100 which is a decent price for a good quality mic like that. I believe a lot of pro singers use Sennheiser, actually. You are able to hear the difference (of course, assuming that a higher price includes a better quality). Personally I can say that I can't stand to use cheap headphones anymore. After a few hours of using and especially after listening to your daily music, you will be able to hear a difference, because your ears get used to the better and more balanced sound very quick. So going from a good pair of headphones to a cheaper/worse quality headphones is really no fun... But $80 headphones arent really cheap, so they should deliver good sound And about the microphones: I know that Avril owns some customized microphones, I'm pretty sure her infamous pink microphones are from Sennheiser. I think she still uses Sennheiser. I mean, she should because obviously they are the best. Everyone from Adele, Rihanna, Coldplay to Beyonce use them.

She has a point though. I wonder if there's that much difference between studio quality headphones and Sennheiser's Orpheus? I'm sure they're very, very good headphones, but I can't help think they're aimed at the sort of person with more money than sense. A Bugatti isn't THAT much faster than a Ferrari. Some sort of blind experiment would be interesting, though you'd have to make sure the participants didn't know what the Orpheus felt like before they even heard anything. Sennheiser employees would be forbidden.
