I just re watched the video to try to understand what's so racist about it and I still don't get it. The plot is that Taylor is a movie actress during what looks to be the 1930s, possibly 40s. She is filming a safari type movie in Africa, falls in love with the male lead, then once the filming is over he's moved on and she runs out of the theater, upset. Um... if the theme of the movie is a safari/jungle adventure of course it needs to take place in Africa. And given what era this is supposed to be I don't think blacks or any other minority were hired to work glamorous jobs like making films. If they even got hired at all it would have been as a servant, to sweep the floor, clean the bathroom, or cook. It'd have been even more racist if they portrayed blacks like that rather than just leaving them out entirely, which is probably more historically accurate for that time period anyway. Not to mention I don't think Taylor has ever featured people of other races in her videos. Bet the only person/people complaining about this are WHITE and seem to think they have any authority over what those of other races should feel offended by. Most of the time the group that is supposed to be offended isn't. Just like how people thought HK was racist towards Asians, when in fact, Asians loved the song and video. Why not just focus on the fact it's not only a beautifully done video but that the proceeds are also being donated to help animals? People these days just have to find something to get butthurt about 24/7.

The racism card is played daily at the moment and it's so boring - any excuse to be "offended" by something.

This isn't anywhere near 'racism', but fantasizing the colonial era is something we should not do.
The first woman to accuse WD had an African heritage.

I think its always difficult to understand if something is racist when you arent the offended person. Of course sometimes its obvious but as a white person from a rich country, I'm careful to say something isnt racist when there might be people that could feel insulted or hurt.

But just because Person A gets offended by a person of a different race (Person B) does, doesn't mean that Person B is necessarily being racist. And it's not always the other person's fault if the first person gets offended.

Right. I also think people don't understand what the word racist actually means anymore. Like when people said Avril was being racist in the HK video just because she was eating sushi or drinking sake. Just stupid.

Even still... that's not racist. Racism would have been portraying the culture in a negative or disrespectful way and I don't think the HK video did that at all. If the dancers behind her had a problem, they would not have agreed to be in the video in the first place, so others getting offended on their behalf when they clearly had no issue with it is just dumb.

The generalization of a specific "subculture" to the country's whole culture can be viewed as racism too.

It's the same with those stupid and ridiculous "illuminati confirmed" comments under every Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga video.
Kelly Clarkson covered "White Christmas" for her christmas album (which is btw a beautiful song). And people are getting upset, because it says "white". I'm like WTF?!?!?
This is one of the most ridiculous comments Iv'e ever seen:
White Christmas? WHITE CHRISTMAS?!? Man that is fucked up! Christmas is for EVERYBODY. You know what that means "White Christmas"? That means my black ass ain't invited! That means NO negros allowed. Listen guys , when the baby Jesus was born in the manger, he did NOT make the black man a stranger. "White Christmas" - Is this some kinda racist joke? That is f*cked up, and you know that is f*cked up! People like you make me sick!

^ OMFG! People are absolutely ridiculous! White Christmas isn't about a Christmas full of white people, it's about everything being covered in a blanket of snow, which is white. Are people going to make the fact that snow appears white racist too somehow? :smh:

LOL That song has been around for literally decades, which clearly that idiot is too stupid to know about. Also, regarding the HK video, the video was made with an all Japanese crew, director, etc. Why would any of them purposely disrespected their own race/culture? They obviously didn't think what Avril did in the video was "racist" or disrespectful to their culture at all, or else they wouldn't have had her do it. SMH

I wonder how much shit Meryl Streep and Robert Redford are going to get when people find out about their famous 1985's racist spree, Out Of Africa. Good that Sydney Pollack douchebag is dead By the way, there are large communities of white people living in Africa that are as African as their black peers. At high school I sat by a girl who was South African. She was very fair-skinned and blue eyed. Tolkien, who's well known because of being the Lord of The Rings writer was also South African and if I remember it well, Yolandi is South African as well . And, whilst South Africa is probably the most well-known case, it's by no means the only one. Angola, Mozambique, Kenya, Guinea and several other countries have relatively large white communities and Zimbabwe used to be home to many white people before Mugabe reached the power

"If you're from Africa, then why are you white?" "Oh my god, Karen, you can't just ask people why they're white!"
