I found her AMAs medley kind of underwhelming last night. Ok she made a statement in the beginning, but otherwise it was just kind of alright? I thought she should have included a few more songs, like Speak Now and Rep got no representation at all and WANEGBT should have been included easily. The staging was cool for IKYWT and I guess it was cool to bring some artists onstage with her for Shake It Off? Lover was the best part though. Otherwise I thought it was pretty underwhelming for what’s supposed to be a medley celebrating a decade of her hits. No You Belong with Me either? I was watching from a crappy Periscope live stream that kept lagging and people’s stupid comments were blocking the screen a lot of the time so maybe that has something to do with it. I’ll have to watch a better quality video. Her speeches were great though, I love how humble she is and how she gave recognition to Carole King instead of making it about herself even though she could have. Taylor is a class act and there’s no one like her.

I agree Bogo. It needed more song clips. It needed a little Dear John and Last Kiss vibe.

I think that it wasn’t the original medley that she planned to perform. The Man being the beginning of the performance gives me that impression. I don’t think this song would have been included if the BMLG thing hadn’t happened in the last two weeks. And I don’t think she merely added that song to the beginning of what she already had planned…I think she changed the performance altogether.
I liked her jacket at the beginning of the performance. Very simple, but cool.

Honestly? Taylor never would have gotten this far if she were a man.

So underwhelming. I expect more from Taylor at this point. IDSB last year was amazing. This one really lacked that energy.
First, the dance for The Man was cringey to me. It was very white girl trying to move like hip hop artists. Like in those Disney shows where they suddenly do choreography. It's just a song that I do not see why it needs a dance routine. Then the kids were cute but it felt like a very planned aww moment. And finally the setlist was not what I was expecting. The outfits were every thing though.

I read a fan theory that she had the kids up there with her (there were 7 of them) to represent her 7 albums and how they are each like kids to her.

I could see her not playing anything from the debut since it was not released in this decade and maybe she skipped Rep because she’s no longer in that dark phase of her life, though I think she could have played Delicate. Speak Now could have easily had Mine or Mean though.

Delicate or LWYMMD would have fit the list of hits for her to perform. The debut album getting missed does make sense since it wasn’t released in this decade. Fearless could’ve went either way, those songs weren’t released in this decade either, but they were still prevalent on the radio during 2010, plus Taylor won a Grammy for that album in 2010. But Speak Now didn’t have the oomph that the other albums did, as far as the success of the singles. There aren’t really singles from that album that the GP know. The only one I could possibly see would be Mean.

Back to December and Mean were both pretty mainstream hits. And I think Fearless counts since we’re talking 2009-2019 as her decade, 2009 was mainly the year she was performing all those songs. I still don’t get why WANEGBT was not included though, her first #1? lol
She’s also apparently just released a “First Dance” remix of Lover like the AMAs version, though really only the beginning portion sounds different, the rest sounds the same to me. She really wants to get Lover to #1 doesn’t she lol

I think you can hear more of a difference if you listen with headphones. I like this remix, much better than the Shawn remix. The intro to this reminds me of the songs in old Disney animated films. But then when that piano kicks in during the intro, I swear it sounds just like the Christmas song Avril did, O Holy Night.

It amazes me how Taylor constantly reinvents her music. I just listened to the 1989 tour version of IKYWT and she did not need to change IKYWT. It fit perfectly with the sound of 1989. Yet she made this haunting and exciting version. It makes me excited to see if she include any bonus tracks or records some songs differently.
There's more I like about her like the several mashup melodies she does with old and new songs. It keeps everything so interesting to see what she comes up with next. I wonder if it's all her or if she has a creative team every tour.

I think it’s all or mostly Taylor tbh I mean she has a musical director that she probably collaborates on ideas with for how to arrange songs for live performances, but I think she definitely comes up with most of the ideas herself.
And I too have always enjoyed how each album and tour is so different from the previous ones, they each have their own unique sound and image that sets them apart. Taylor Swift (debut album) is like sweet country girl next door, Fearless was like a more elevated, more pop version of that, Speak Now was like a coming of age album, more grown up, but still holding on to some of that fairytale fantasy stuff, Red was a combo of country, pop, and rock and her style was more hipster, but also drew inspiration from a lot of ‘60s outfits. 1989 was like a neon New York City electro pop landscape, rep was as she described it a nighttime cityscape, and Lover is like a rainbow after the storm.
TS era she wore sundresses with cowboy boots, Fearless she wore sparkly prom dresses, Speak Now was a lot of ‘40s and ‘50s housewife kinds of dresses and heels, Red was hipster with the hat, Oxfords, high waisted shorts, but also ‘60s inspired tops and dresses. 1989 was crop tops, short skirts, of course her chopped hair, rep was mostly black, lots of more loose fitting kinds of clothes, but also leotards and fishnets. Lover is tie dye, colorful, rainbow, pastels. Even her style evolved with each album. It really helps tell apart each era when you look at photos and stuff.
