I felt it was made with the purpose of generate memes just like Swish Swish but not so obvious. I didn't like the video, loveeee the song but I was expecting something like Wildest Dreams or Begin Again. I haven't liked any of the MVs in this era tbh.

Yeah I mean I was hoping for something darker and more intimate that captured the lyrics better. But maybe they thought that would be too predictable.
My interpretation of the video is that this is what she would do if the media wasn’t always watching her. So it’s kind of sad that it seems like she’s trying to say she feels restricted and can’t be free because of how she’s always being watched. It makes sense why she hasn’t been that active on social media this era, or really that active in general (why she isn’t doing a lot of promo).

I was thinking she’s saying that once she let go of the drama she became invisible to the media allowing her, at last, to let down her guard, throw caution to the wind, dance in the rain like she always sings about and become her “authentic” self.
Once she becomes “normal” and a mere mortal she walks into the dive bar (from Gorgeous) where people see the real her, and she is happy and complete as she meets the one who wrote the magical note.

I didn’t like the video all that much either. But I do have to agree, it is something different.
As for interpretation: I think she shows in the beginning how she always put on a fake smile/mask for the public (the way she forces a little smile in the beginning with the interviewer). And how she felt followed (bodyguard scene) And when she becomes ‘invisible’ in the bathroom she doesn’t behave the way she has before and loses the mask, in my eyes the time when she really did go off the grid and there were no paparazzi shots (okay, basically it still is that way) I believe her becoming visible again in this small bar shows how she decided to no longer take a spot in the public and rather surround herself with a smaller amout of people where she feels comfortable to be herself.

Raven, good point. Maybe she’s “retiring” after this tour? I think she’s ready to settle down.

What I got from it was, her reputation is tied to her celebrity persona which is the person with the body guards living in the mansion. The song is about being with someone who doesn’t see that persona but the person inside. In the video she becomes invisible and can act out as her true self, just like she can in the song with the person who sees her for her true self, and not her reputation. The video just doesn’t have the love interest like the song does

I got nostalgic and ended up ordering the Journey to Fearless DVD from eBay, going to try to look for the Speak Now DVD too because I never got to see it/the tour. I ended up watching the tour music videos for Fearless, Sparks Fly, Red, and New Romantics. It's just incredible to think how far she has come and how each album is bigger than the last. It's unfathomable how one artist has been able to achieve what she has, it's so hard to break through at all, but keeping up the momentum album after album is even more difficult. I love how with each album she keeps building and trying new things but still keeping true to herself. Taylor Swift - just a country teen hoping to make it big, gains legions of teenage girl fans by writing love songs about the cute guy in class. #Relateable Fearless - a more pop version of the first album, first headlining tour, youngest female artist to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, most awarded country album of all time, You Belong With Me is the first country video to win the MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year (despite what Kanye thinks lol), Love Story is her first huge crossover hit, so many magical memories Speak Now - A more grown up version of Fearless, first world tour, every song is self-written, breaks the record for the most songs from one album to chart on Billboard Hot 100 (14), her first album to sell 1 million copies in its first week Red - the beginning of her official move into pop, second consecutive album to sell 1 million+ in one week, amazing looking tour, love how everything actually was red the whole era. ICONIC. The album/era that I became a fan 1989 - her first official pop album, third consecutive album to sell 1 million+ in the first week, first female artist to win 2 Grammys for Album of the Year, the tour is FLAWLESS, everything about this era was so fun and fresh and amazing, it's my favorite! Reputation - the dark version of 1989, innovative, daring, unique, dark, the tour looks like it's going to be amazing as usual. Definitely her most low-key era so far, but she's probably just working really hard on the tour and she doesn't need to go hard with promo like before. Several months later I still really enjoy this album Something I really love about her tours too is that they all have a musical theater/Broadway aspect to the visuals, which I just love. She puts on a show and it's just so visually exciting to watch. I'm sad Red never had a DVD release and that 1989 was an Apple Music exclusive. Hopefully there will be a release for the Reputation tour. Long live Taylor Swift

I really recommend you get your hands on the Speak Now Tour DVD! I bought while on vacation in America at a Barnes & Noble. Despite forgetting that I have to be careful, you can’t switch yourregion code forever, I think it is awesome. The entire show and also the speeches she gives.

I just revisited some live acoustic performances:
She sounds so good in these (maybe they are autotuned a bit, I don't know) and she really displays her musicianship here with all the instruments she plays. I also think you can really hear how good the songs themselves are when they are stripped down like this and especially with songs like How You Get the Girl, Out of the Woods, and Treacherous you can hear the vulnerability in them. She is a great performer.
