Exactly. I don't know why it's such a big deal that the song has done well in Japan or that it's necessary for her to get promo in Japan before her own releases when she is already popular there. Like... of course it's going to do well there. It's one of her biggest markets. She could be away from the music industry for 5 years and probably releases something out of the blue there and it would sell because her fans there are very dedicated. But in Europe and the US it's a different story and she needs better promo in those places where people have forgotten about her. The media in America seems super hyped that she's coming back with new music so hopefully they will continue to support her when it's out. I think she needs a collab with somebody relevant here though like 5 Seconds of Summer, Alessia Cara, or Shawn Mendes, I could see her working with any of them. A duet with Ed Sheeran would be cool too, I seem to remember he said he was a fan. I would like to see her collab with a male folky songwriter.

The album sold 215k copies in Japan in 5 days. Avril definitely got some huge promo in Japan before even starting the new era. I really hope she can do at least 70k in the first week there when the album is released. that's great, but asia is already her biggest, market, she should collab with someone who will bring her so much attention on the european/american market, she need huge promo outside the asia. This is not a big deal... She's just mantaining her popularity. It's good for her to have a comercially successful career there, so that if she doesn't reach high positions and get a lot of sales from other parts of the world, she'll still be cool because she has Asia. Promoting your "brand" only is bad when you're "over": overlooked, overexposed, and Avril is in a position that she can promote her music without people feeling they're tired of seeing her and actually having a positive reaction from it. I think collaborating with them was a GREAT idea. As I said, it was good that she focused on Asia for a bit, because people there know she's back, and they'll just wait her next step. Now she can focus on NA and EU without major worries. Everything has been on point until now: online promo (from Christmas eve to now), collabs, teases of her new work. PS: sorry again for the long post about it, I always talk too much when it's either about marketing (I'm a marketing student, I love talking about branding, promotion, publicity...) and the multimedia world (music, movies, videos, etc)

I agree on the collaboration part, collaborating with any of the artists you've mentioned would help her so much. But I also think that, even if Japan is her biggest market, you shouldn't take it for granted. I think it's good to have such a promotion there, and it might be good that she started from there, because it is a safe place for selling. Now that she's sure, she'll be big there again, she can now focus more on NA and Europe

The album sold 232,000 copies in a week in Japan. It became their fastest selling album there and it's just 20,000 copies behind their best selling album. The Queen's power. They only needed a feature with her to make all of this happen.

Listen seems to be the breakout track from the CD. No one is even talking about the 5SOS or Alex one.

I actually don't really like this song. You can hear that it's supposed to have a deeper meaning if you listen to the lyrics but it's like the emotion isn't there? It's also quite monotonous. I don't know. I'll give it a few more listens and see if I warm up to it. I like some very small parts of it but overall I don't like the song. :/ It's great though, that it's giving Avril such a big promo if only in Japan(for now at least.)

I really thought people would talk more about them than they'd talk about Avril. After all, 5SOS and Alex Gaskarth/All Time Low are not exactly unheard of... But I hardly care about this anyway. I'm just really really happy Avril's gained some more popularity.

I like the song, but it looses it's meaning in the melody/the way some of it is phrased. The entire song is almost a cliche IMO. It's on the same level as Evan/Avril's song. It's an ok song.

^ and ^^ It may be because English isn't One Ok Rock's first language. Those Japanese lines are deep, but the lyrics in English are pretty generic.

I agree... besides our language is not the richest one. I mean, I study foreign languages at Uni: German, Spanish and Italian. Those languages are way more richer in vocabulary terms, so you can sometimes express some contents and thoughts in a deeper way, especially romance ones (Spanish and Italian)... German languages (the family of the language - not the language spoken in Germany - to which languages like English German and Swedish belong to) are usually not that rich and quite simple, although if you compare German to English, German is richer... It's about the history of the languages. I don't really know about Asian languages, so I don't know about Japanese, but it seems like a way richer language than English. PS: I'm not saying you can't express deep thoughts in English, it's just that they might look more plain because of the richness of the other language, that for historical reasons it's richer
