Linkin Park was one of the band that shaped me and musical taste in my late teens and early twenties, and Chester was undoubtedly a big part of that. Despite not really liking their last album, I'm devastated and heartbroken by this

"In the memory you’ll find me Eyes burning up The darkness holding me tightly"
Depression is a hard thing
Awful feeling...the whole epoch of our generation has gone

I read about Chester's death a couple of hours ago, on Twitter. I couldn't really believe it. I was so shocked. I had no idea what to say. I just sat there scrolling through Twitter reading all these sad and shocked and devastated tweets from fellow musicians and other famous people and fans and ... well, everybody, actually. After a while I decided I had to put my phone away; the whole thing was so devastating. So devestating, even though I've never even been a Linkin Park fan (never disliked them either; I think they're a great band and have some fantastic songs, but I've just never been a fan). And if it's so devastating for me, someone who hardly knew anything about Chester and Linkin Park, how terrible must it be for those who knew and loved him? I feel so, so sorry for Chester for not having been able to find another way out of his depression. I feel so sorry for him for having had to feel that way. I feel so sorry for his family and friends; I can't possibly imagine what they must be going through right now. I feel so sorry for his fans. All the fans on Twitter wrote "it hurts so much" and similar stuff. It's heartbreaking.

I was heartbroken when I heard he passed away, even more heartbroken when I heard that he committed suicide. Depression really kills RIP Chester B.

Listening to them now I used to LOVE Numb and In the end back when I was 15 and going through my angry/depressed/hating the world stage in my life, they're music helped me back them. Sad about what happened to Chester 😢

I just couldn't believe it, I thought it was a HOAX... I litterly cried. I saw them exactly one month ago (June 20th in Holland) and he died July 20th.. I thought he was happier. I just saw an interview with him and Mike a few weeks before he commited suicide and he seem happy He is such a brilliant man who have helped people through their darkest times including myself and it's so so sas he couldn't help himself. 2 months earlier his best friend Chris Cornell also hung himself and Chester also used the rope... That's just so creepy and sad. His voice can never be replaced.. LinkinPark will never be the same

I've never been much of a fan of LP but I was reminded of Numb when Dalton performed it on Idol last year so I've had that on my phone for awhile. Then after this story broke I was inclined to check out some of their hits and downloaded In the End and Breaking the Habit. Listened to In the End on repeat last night. Read his backstory on Wiki and my friend Tim is quite a fan of them, so he told me some stuff about them.
It's very clear, even from someone who's not a fan, that this man felt so much pain and you can hear that in the music. I admire his vocal talents very much, not many people can do what he does. I really like his singing voice, it sounds melodic and vulnerable. It's really sad that we lost another musician only a couple months after the same thing happened. Everyone always says how sad it is that they suffer from depression and such, but nothing seems to change with that. The stigma around mental illness needs to end. Many people suffer with depression or other forms of mental illness and they should be encouraged to seek help. How many celebrities need to commit suicide before anything changes? Sad.
My friend explained to me how Chester was best friends with Chris and how he killed himself on what would have been Chris's birthday. The fact he killed himself also in the same way to me is not a coincidence. This man already suffered from so much, on top of it he lost his best friend. I don't think it's a coincidence at all that this happened. In some weird way, he might have thought it was a "tribute" or way of honoring Chris, like because he was so sad he was gone. It's all very sad, especially when they both left children and families behind.
"He seemed happy" - this is very common amongst people who commit suicide. There are signs sometimes that someone has plans to kill them selves and one of them is that they are suddenly happy or relieved because it's like they know everything is going to be over soon. Depressed people don't always make it obvious that they are depressed or suicidal. Most of the time they're very good at covering it up and acting like everything is normal. That's what makes it so devestating.

I was very devastated when I found out that Chester has passed away. I saw them last month and it was one of the best concerts I've attended. His vocals truly blew me away. I did grew up with their songs and were definitely a part of my childhood. But I was in shock of what happened to him since it was so unexpected.
RIP Chester, you will be missed.

Give "leave out all the rest" a listen if you haven't already - excellent song And spot on re. the last paragraph. my best friend killed himself 4 years ago and he was literally the happiest funniest person. of everyone I know I'd never have thought it'd be him to suffer with depression. it's an horrific illness.
