As Sliperslip just told us, Sippin' on sunshine is a methapore for bl*wjob I am translating all of Avril's lyrics for my site and I have some problems with the lyrics, the meanings behind the lines. Tell you what do you think about the methaphors and meanings in Avril's songs - line by line! If you are a native English speaker, please, help us read between the lines, help us understand the lyrics line by line, tell us the secres in lyrics! Here are some lyrics for the start: „It’s been so long I’ll write the song If that’s what it take” „Hanging from the ceiling, life’s a mobile” „Hello kitty, you're so pretty”

Mobile: I think she kind of explains it in what follows: "spinning round with mixed feelings crazy & wild". I don't really get it myself, but I think there's nothing really to get. A lot of lyrics are not 'meant' to be read between the lines, sometimes a lyric is just a lyric. Same goes for the Hello Kitty one

With regards to 'Mobile' the lyrics are referencing a type of children's toy that hangs above their bed/cot. It is essentially a spinning toy that keeps young children occupied whilst it spins. They are often brightly coloured and may have flashing lights or make sounds (I remember seeing one that had farm animals hanging from the central beam, it would make animal noises as it spun around, it became really annoying after about 5 minutes and my friends removed the batteries to shut it up!) Here's an article explaining them in more detail: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_(sculpture)As for the metaphor, the reference is possibly to the changes in Avril's life at that time, everything rapidly changing direction and being slightly above her head, i.e. not entirely within her control. Hope this helps a bit!

It's "metaphor." Good luck with the translation.

I don't recall that interview about HK. In fact, I've heard her say just the opposite. Got a link?

okay, if 008 suggests, why to not ask, i think it would be on topic. how do you think, 008, are the famous lines in Things I'll Never Say about fellatio? or something like that. because i am hell dumb in english not a native speaker and never thought they are about this, but people are saying.

Sorry In Hungarian, it is called "Metafora". Maybe that's why I wrote it in that way

Yes in the Google Hangout she did in 2013 she mentioned she was doing an interview with Radio Disney and they asked her if HK was really about Hello Kitty because they weren't sure if they could ask about it because it's a children's music station and she said "Yeah it's not," basically confirming it's about lesbians.

The other day, I was listening to Things I'll Never Say. Been listening to the song for decades, but then, I realized it's about falling in love with her hookup.
’m tugging at my hair I’m pulling at my clothes I’m trying to keep my cool, I know it shows I’m staring at my feet My cheeks are turning red I’m searching for the words inside my head
If I could say what I want to say I'd say I wanna blow you... away Be with you every night Am I squeezing you too tight? If I could say what I want to see I want to see you go down... on one knee Marry me today Guess, I’m wishing my life away With these things I’ll never say
It don’t do me any good It’s just a waste of time What use is it to you what’s on my mind? If it ain’t coming out We’re not going anywhere So why can’t I just tell you that I care?
What’s wrong with my tongue These words keep slipping away I stutter, I stumble Like I’ve got nothing to say
It is a fucking good song. Much better, to me, than when I thought it was simply about a guy she had a crush on.
P.S And it's good to be back here though, (if anyone remembers or even care, that is).

Damn, Avril. I don't think I can listen to that song anymore. I still think that was unintentional and simply from her naiveté, or so I hope lol
