Off topic but correction: I don't think Avril is actually a US citizen. Living and working here for almost 2 decades does not mean she is a legal citizen. She has the proper papers or visas or whatever to legally live and work here. To my knowledge she has never applied for citizenship in the US and has citizenship in only 2 countries - Canada and France. It was easier for her to become a French citizen because her father was born there. To become a US citizen you have to take a test and all this other stuff. I can't see her wanting to do any of that, as long as she is able to live and work here legally I don't see why she'd care enough to become a citizen. I don't think she considers herself American at all.
As an American I agree the gun laws need to be changed but can we please not call the American people "stupid?" That's insulting, regardless of your beliefs on gun control. Some of the American people are sure acting stupid but don't lump us all together and say we are all stupid. You don't see us saying "Oh wow those Brits, look at how stupid they are." This site doesn't have as many American users as it used to but keep in mind there's a few of us Americans still here, it's not all Europeans. Be more mindful the next time you're about to insult an entire country of people.

well well, the tiny notice she's getting political, has lighted up almost a flame instantly. ^ This and simultaneously demanding of her to express her political views... I even don't know, what should she do? I think here she was concerned not with American "political process", that I believe she cares even less about than Americans about having Canadians "interfere" with that process. Rather she expressed purely human disagreement with the situation where innocent people get killed because some psychopath have an easy access to the gun. Good for her, I applause this statement. Always was a strong opponent of free gun possession. PS. That "don't fuck up the table" note. So funny. Interestingly, for whom this instruction has been prepared in the first place.

I can't find it right now, but if I'm right and she has a US passport then she applied for citizenship and just decided not to say anything publicly.

Like Bogo said I don't think Hookster told Ben to STFU because of his opinion; it was his generalization of Americans.
Also - this thread will serve as the political one for the time being - as always, we allow this type of discussion but keep it civil please

I like when she said "Call your congressman and senator and demand stricter gun laws!". I think that is in favor of all humans.

Yes Blizz, you are correct. Some may remember I travel for work and have been around the globe a bunch. I’ve learned that people everywhere are basically the same. I love the UK and spend time in London often. It’s a wonderful place and the people are amazing.
I don’t agree with all of the policies or beliefs over there. Same for the rest of the 100 countries I’ve visited. And that’s ok.
One thing for sure: I would never call an entire population stupid. That would be a really stupid thing to do.

The UK, or just London? Else you've made a generalisation of your own, albeit a much less derisive one. Besides the tourist attractions London is about as British as a very non-British thing. Sorry Londoners.

I’m pretty sure most of us come on here to escape these kind of things and not shuffle through pages of people arguing over politics. There’s not even a proper way to block a thread so you don’t see it (I don’t think. But if you know, please tell me so I can do that). We argue enough as it is over Avril and we don’t need something else to add on to it. People have already gotten nasty to each other last night before this was even made and you guys really think that opening something like this up is a good idea? :/

Did I spell it wrong? I think you meant to spell it "Cheltenham", the beautiful regency town just ten minutes down the road

Sorry Londoners. Must we argue about everything? I've been all over the UK. Especially enjoyed my time in Gloucester and Edinburgh. It's because us Brits get it a lot, seeing as it's the main place people go in the UK. Just like when people call the UK England... That and the British stereotype doesn't even fit 90% of Brits haha. But I'm sure many other countries have the same 'problem'. Did I spell it wrong? What a niche place to visit I think shying from talking about politics or world events is never a good thing. It's important to talk about imo and very interesting. It's literally our every-day lives. And it's not difficult to be civil, and it's a shame when people mistake passion for aggressiveness. Although it's difficult to tell over text. I am 100% against having easy access to guns, so thankfully it's not my country. IMO it's only self defence if the person shooting you misses. And you hear so many sad stories of accidents. So if an American could explain to me I'd love to see your point of view because I just don't understand it coming from a country where few people have them. The only explanations I've heard is "it's our right" etc. But there's also the problem that there's no way this guy got these guns legally so that obviously needs looking into and gun laws are perhaps not the right topic. I know the problem is a lot more difficult than restricting access to guns and who has access to them but shootings happen so often, do governments do anything to change it after one or just accept it? I know you will never stop all criminals, just like it's so difficult to stop someone killing people by other means, but surely there's something that can be done to lessen this in some way? I'm glad Avril is speaking up because it's obvious it's something she's passionate about. I also like how she's not telling you how to think, she's telling you to go out and do something if you want to. The more people involved, the better IMO.

Ha. I did enjoy the visit to the Cathedral in Gloucester. I was there for work and was at the Virtual Aerospace company near by.
