Just finished watching The Matrix (1999). It was awesome. That movie was great. You should watch the sequels even though they were disappointments.

The Shallows. Didn't think it was gonna be as exciting with just Blake Lively and little to no dialogue but it worked. Her talking to herself was just what I would do but with more freaking out. The shark was scary too fuckn thing had a vengeance.

Shame (2011)
It was a good movie, but the ending was pretty sad.

Th Great Gatsby, the last adaptation starring Leonardo Di Caprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Maguire. An absolute disappointment from beginning to end.The film does not capture anything of what makes the novel the American classic it is.Not even Di Caprio's and Maguire's great performances can save it. In the first place, Mulligan seems either miscast or misdirected. You're supposed to love and empathize with Daisy at the beginning and then hate her to bits in the end: here there's not a moment you can't hate her. Then there's a lot to follow: the fact that wasn't shot in America is itself a crime, but the cringeworthy CGI to recreate the roaring twenties New York and Gatsby manor makes it a minor offense. I mean, I am sure that in Australia there are houses fit enough to pass for Gatsby manor without having to make a tasteless CGI that feels remotely New-Renaissance French-style meets American Art-DecΓ³ horror with over the top gardens that would make Dolores Umbridge puke. New York City rendition is more of the same. Both feel so FAKE and dated, to be honest. It shows specially when one thinks that the Lord Of The Rings movies were made about 10 years before this- and the Hobbit ones are around the same date- and their sets look way more real. I sot of felt a certain relief when they were at the Buchanan's house or the scene in the Plaza Hotel because at least you could tell those were real. The exterior shoots, however, may be the worse: you could tell that there wasn't a single plant there that wasn't made in plastic and every single outdoor scene made you feel like you were walking through an ocean of discarded fake Christmas trees. The party scenes were also a terrible misfire: whatever was supposed to feel opulent, extravagant and classy ended up looking tacky at its best and cheap and amateurish at its worse. The much tamer and older Gone With The Wind or Sabrina have more feeling of American elegance to them that any scene in this movie. If they wanted to give the feeling that Gatsby's wealth was "new money", it was absolutely lost. The colour scheme is handled with surprising ineptitude: I mean, I can get that they were going for a blue-gold "main theme" and then a pastel-coloured superimposed one, but that's a risky decision in the first place and if done, it has to be handled with extreme care and taste- which wasn't the case. Another new world of bad colour use I do not dare to explore is the feeble green of Gatsby's flashback-like, I was hoping Lord Voldemort would show up at some point to make the movie interesting- And to ice the spoiled and over-sweetened cake you had, here and there, cheesy scenes in which parts of the novel were written on the screen, be it in typewriting or handwriting. The use of modern music to give the same impression that jazz gave in the American Jazz Age was the only "good" thing about the movie, and Lana del Rey's main song and sultry voice were perfect-more for the novel than for the film though- but even that is a take on Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoniette. My eyes still hurt.

Watching Speed, I forgot how good this movie is. Sandra Bullock is a great actress, not my favorite role of hers though.

Now I'm watching Ocean's 8. I don't get why there was so much hype. An all women main cast πππ but it was so boring until the heist began. Half of the women in the film I've seen do much more interesting roles.
