I could see how releasing the video would maybe just make people miss the "old" Avril. But I also personally would have loved seeing it, for nostalgia reasons and I'm sure a lot of fans would. A lot of us really loved the Complicated throwback in HTNGU. Not to mention that 17 is just too good not to have a video. I wish she could have done something like Beyoncé did, where each song had a video. There was a lot of potential for all or most of the AL songs to have videos which I think would have been very cool. As a idea, it's good and very enjoyable for fans. In practice, however, I'm not quite sure about how much SONY product placement our brains can bear before imploding. Especially if the placement is as intelligent and tasty as in LMG MV

Haha maybe in the SOS video she could have done a remix of the song with Lil Mama called Sippin On Iced Tea and been drinking that Chinese iced tea.

They sort of got away with the product placement in her other videos like WTH (Sony TV in her apartment, a fan holding up a Sony camera, Avril wearing AD and her fragrances), HTNGU (Avril wearing that Ice watch, although at one point they focused for too long on it) and RNR (using the Sony phone in the beginning). But LMG was just bizarre. I thought Avril was supposed to be a ghost or something, why is she using a tablet to look at her dead husband playing a song in some alternate universe?

Yes, I mean, call me obsessive but I've tried to make up a decent story for that and it simply makes no sense. Unless it's all a George Lucas nightmare, there's no excuse.

I sat here trying to figure out how they could have incorporated the product placement without ruining the storyline and couldn't come up with anything. The storyline is too complex to be able to incorporate modern technology into it and have it make any sense. Maybe in the beginning, when the old man was sweeping outside the house, he could have been using his phone to check the time (since time is an important element in the story later on). Like maybe once the clock hits midnight, this is when that weird thing happens where they turn into their former selves. And so they could have had him use a phone or the tablet to see the clock strike midnight. It's still not very good, but makes a bit more sense than a ghostly Avril watching her dead husband play guitar in an alternate universe.

In all honesty, I think that the director's job is to do right what you have done now. There are some things you just can't do in a music video because you ruin it. It doesn't matter if the video is technically good (right camera angles, lighting control, colour schemes) if it fails at such basic things, and the LMG video is a very good example of precisely that. I don't know how much he got payed but...it was too much. And even if the director is that unprofessional I guess that someone at Epic must have have watched the video before it was released. Even the very own Avril should have realized about how nonsensical it was- yes, I know it's not her job, but she's made a handful of music videos by now, she knows what they are about. I can't believe such an evident failure passed through all the filters without anyone realizing. To me they just saw it and decided they would release the video like that no matter about how non-sensical it was.

To me they just saw it and decided they would release the video like that no matter about how non-sensical it was. To be honest, I think the LMG music video was one of the best of the AL era and very well made, except for that one problem. But I do think they did what I bolded, is they just slapped it in anywhere because they had to and figured either the fans wouldn't notice or wouldn't care. In their defense, it isn't exactly an easy concept to try to fit that in and have it look natural because it obviously doesn't fit in anywhere. I don't think they were really concerned with it. Sony required them to feature it somewhere and they probably didn't care, as long as they got their money. I don't think they cared whether it really made sense or not. Which is a shame, because it does kind of ruin what is otherwise a beautiful video. I wish that Avril didn't have to have product placement in her videos. I guess the good things about the videos she funded herself (HK, GYWYL, Fly) didn't have any nonsensical product placement.
