So first of all, after being away for so long it was great to hear a new track from her! What I loved was that she really dug deep. Her best work is when she’s vulnerable and not afraid to take us with her. Obviously the quintessential example being her live performance of Tomorrow the day her grandfather passed. To me, HAW is her most “mature” piece of work to date and I’m excited to hear the rest of the album. And her voice on the track!!
Now as far as its performance. Listen, HAW isn’t built for today’s market, especially in the US which is currently dominated by hip hop. And please don’t misunderstand, I’m not saying it should be or that it isn’t a great track. I’m just saying as much as it stinks she’s not at the top of the charts I’m not really surprised. But it’s only the first track, who knows what the rest of the album will bring. It seems she’s entering the next phase of her career and I’m excited about it!

I think he's talking about weekly charts, where Avril is out of most of them, she remains in Canada, Austria and some others. But this is one of her worst songs IN THE CHARTS. Only #2 weeks in the hot 100, probably one of the lowest singles there, Did HK stay for 2 weeks too? HAW is one of her BEST songs ever, but it is not handle by a big label or enough/relevant promo + it's not with the current trends, that's why Avril is not on top of the weekly charts anymore or on a decent chart position. I guess if she has some songs with country influences or more upbeat tracks they can make better in the charts.

Thinking about it I don’t think I’ve actually seen any negative reception. I was specifically referring to US Billboard HOT (#64 peak) and Adult Top (#29). And again, I’m not talking smack was just referencing those stats.

Going back even further people were having the same conversation when everything switched from CD to digital. But that’s a whole another thread lol. HK only stayed for 1 week and it hung on at 75 because of the popularity of the music video (according to wiki).
