I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but it seems obvious to me that her toxic relationship that inspired the 'I fell in love with the devil' song was with that J.R. Rotem guy. I think she is showing him in a very bad light which isn't very nice of her. He must deserve that

I wish someone should post it. . (Although that might be against the rules).

Avril is just fine with BMG. She’s getting enough promo lately and can choose her singles, the songs she puts on her albums and her producers. She’s in the best position, really. BMG will give her the freedom she needs to release what she wants, and if she wants heavier guitars and live drums in her next album, even if drums are dead for mainstream music, she can have it. I hope she sticks with them in the coming years/albums. After Devil, I can say that this promo has been far better than the AL one, which Epic dropped the minute the album came out.
As said above, BMG is just the perfect label for artists like her, who have moved away from the spotlight and big labels and just want to settle down a little bit and do their own thing, whether it will be a big hit or not.

I agree. They gave her the freedom to make HAW which I think is her best work ever. She really gave us all we’ve been asking. It’s mature for the most part but still fun. It’s inventive and original yet throws out Let Go vibes also. It is so much better than the last one. She brought it this time.

Reading the comments here about record labels, I wonder how things would have been if her first album hadn't been such an insane success. I remember listening to and reading her interviews back then and she seemed so overwhelmed and couldn't handle it very well (which led to many derisive comments even from interviewers themselves). At that point, at 16/17, she was probably just focused on making music and didn't have any expectations or wishes in terms of the level of success she'd want. She said again and again that she just wants to sing and perform.
Being so young, she must have been influenced by the adults around her who kept telling her what to do in order to keep the success going with the next albums. And even though she found the tours exhausting, she didn't question it. She was just so young. It's surprising how much she was able to hold on to what she felt was right and what she wanted, relatively speaking, because personally I wouldn't have had such strong opinions and confidence at that age.
If the first album hadn't been such a huge success, she might have been just as happy and wouldn't have developed these notions of what kinds of songs she needs to make (= always at least one single "must" be radio-friendly and upbeat even if it's in complete contradiction with the rest of the album) and what songs she should perform on tour (upbeat = good, ballads = bad, because it didn't occur to her you could captivate audiences with calm songs too).
The way she's currently doing this may be what feels most natural for her: a little bit of promo and publicity but not too much because she's a very private person (she got so awkward in that interview when asked about details on the Devil etc), focusing on the music and music videos and not hurrying with tour or finalising a record by a specific date. Of course Lyme is a factor and she might be more energetic if she hadn't suffered from it, but otherwise it seems this is how she really wants to work and make music. We're just used to the visions of people other than Avril, people who were focused on financial success rather than creating the ultimate work of art.
Of course it's not bad she got so rich from the first few albums. It gives her liberties to do what she wants now.
But I'm thinking maybe us long-time fans are just used to something that was never Avril's preference in the first place.

I’m sure Avril wanted to be successful in some capacity. No artist wants to fail. I don’t think she expected it to become as big as it was. But I’m sure she was grateful for it. But like any teen, she got cranky due to the grueling tour schedule with little sleep and sometimes even not eating because the food was strange in some places. Touring is difficult for all artists - that is why you have to really love music to push through the low points of it. On her first album she didn’t really know what she was getting herself into and it was a lot to handle for being as young as she was. Second time around she realized her mistakes and started taking better care of herself so she could handle it better.

It’s been pretty much proven at this point Avril doesn’t get along with major labels. At this point in her life and career, a label like BMG suits her just fine. They’ve gotten her some really good promo slots this era. [ I truly doubt BMG is responsible for her promo slots It’s more important that Avril gets to make the music she wants and BMG is the first label in a long time, maybe ever, to let her do that. Yeah because for the very first time ever she’s more into self publishing model than being published model

HAW the single is sitting at #192 on US iTunes pop. Let's face it, all the songs are pretty unmemorable on her latest album. HAW is the best of a bad lot. I hope you all like my new profile picture, it's me when I was a toddler.

Totally disagree and I think we need a poll to see who’s right.

I still have mixed views about Haw Album, i LOVE some of the songs and some other i just think like you, that are a bit forgetable...especially the second half. I love Souvenir, Goddess and Crush (and i like Warrior) but she has done the souvenir sound before and better tbh. Goddess and Crush are pretty new for her. (with goddess i mean, she's made acoustic ones before but usually sad songs so that's why).
And the first half it's pretty good, especially the Big 3 (Haw, IWIM and Devil)
I still think Dumb blonde doesn't fit the album at all buy anyway.
But overall i think it's definitely better than GL and AL (this one is easy lol) not sure if it's better than TBDT because you have some really iconic bops there and 3 Huge ballads, 2 of them being on the top in her career.
But then i have HAW single, which became my favorite song of hers, which i thought no other song would have taken NH and MHE's places...SO....that's big. xD

I respect it because it’s throwback to Let Go yet it explores unvisited territory. It’s like Lover being compared to Speak Now.

I can't wait for the year-end Poll....i wonder if the top 3 will be different this year. Tbh, Haw single diserves a top 3 AT LEAST....just my opinion but you should all agree with me xD
