I couldn't care less about the colour of her hair tbh, she could shave it all off for all I care. I was just listing things she said she was against in the LG/UMS eras then completely changed her mind for TBDT era (and as you say somethings Avril changed prior to the TBDT era like 2006 or something). I also agree that what we saw from Avril 2006 - to present is probably the "real Avril" I know, I didn't really say it right. I just meant that a lot of fans "blame" TBDT era for why Avril "changed" so much when a large portion of the changes actually happened in UMS era. In addition to dyeing her hair then and thinking about a clothing line, she also started wearing more skirts and dresses then. And she posed for Maxim for the first time in 2004, even if she wasn't naked or anything, she started doing sexier shoots as early as UMS era too. There are paparazzi pics of her with Nicky Hilton as early as LG era. But for whatever reason, nobody cares that she did all of that back then because that's the album/era they like best, so they're ok with it. They don't like TBDT album so they make it the scapegoat for everything. The only things TBDT era can be "blamed" for are the brattiness and dancers. Looking back I think TBDT is one of her strongest eras, her voice improved a lot compared to LG/UMS, Avril seemed to be enjoying herself more and the album was solid in terms of production and consistency. However, looking at the numbers (album sales + concert tickets) and articles at the time (fairly negative) her reception in this era dropped significantly compared to her first two eras. That's facts. Yeah her image was beginning to change nearer the end of the UMS era, but with TBDT era the changes Avril made were pretty dramatic (poppier lyrics, new(ish) look, very girly etc.) hence why her fanbase declined by a few million. And that is the truth. Anyway I'm glad she made TBDT, I think it was a wise decision to make a more upbeat album after UMS. I hope she makes a consistent fun album like that again with a good pop/rock production.

I think TBDT would have been better if they did it more "girly-punk" and not "girly-pop". She has some real rock-songs on that album, heavy guitars and the album is pretty good. But they focussed too much on showing the "new" Avril. It was just too much for most of her fans. They could have had a smoother bridge between UMS and TBDT.

I hope she makes a consistent fun album like that again with a good pop/rock production. She did lose fans and TBDT album didn't sell as many copies as her previous 2 albums, but I also think she gained a lot of new fans that era, like she does every era, because of the new sound and image. She loses and gains fans with every album she releases, and her sales decline with every album she releases, not just TBDT. And her sales obviously weren't affected very much when GF became her first #1 and is still her only #1 hit to date, and was the best selling song of 2007. GF also reached 100 million views on YT and TBDTour sold massively, including several sold out shows: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_Damn_World_Tour#Box_office_score_data She did receive a lot of negative press, but that's not anything new either. I even have heard from some of the older fans that even UMS received criticism from fans and people thought even back then she was becoming too "girly" and I'm sure she lost some fans with that album too, and UMS didn't sell as much as LG did. Losing fans and declining sales occurs with all her albums.

I also think it's interesting that for the first 3 albums the last single usually determined what her next sound was going to be, which hasn't happened since TBDT. The last single for LG was a rock song, she ended up making a rock album. The last single from UMS was an upbeat pop/punk song, she ended up making a mostly upbeat pop/punk album. So I do think there was enough of a transition between UMS and TBDT, given what the final single ended up being. This didn't happen with GL or AL, the last single from TBDT definitely didn't represent what was to come from GL (other than WTH) and the last single from GL surely didn't represent what was to come from AL.

If I were to recreate an era, I would choose the UMS era. I love the UMS album and era, but I think the singles were poorly chosen. I would MHE the lead single, as I think that it would have made a better lead single than DTM. I would make Take Me Away the second single. I would make either How Does It Feel or Slipped Away as the third single. UMS didn't have a ballad as a single, so if I were to recreate the UMS era, it would definitely need one; I think both songs would make a good radio single and couldn't choose between them. I would make Freak Out the fourth single. Fall To Pieces was kind of the fifth single for UMS (it was released as the fourth single in the U.S. while He Wasn't was released everywhere else). I would make FTP the fifth single and wouldn't cancel the video shoot (lol).
Also, I would put Daydream and Take It on the special edition of UMS as bonus tracks; and possibly add some other unreleased songs as well. I would add HDIF to the tour set list (since it's the only song from that era that has never been played live). I would also release the Budokan DVD worldwide because it was unfair for only Japan to get the release.
Avril started dying her hair blonde maybe halfway through the era. I would keep Avril's hair as it was in the UMS album photoshoot for longer. I really liked her darker hair with black lowlights. I feel like she didn't keep this look/style around for very long. She cut it herself during your and also dyed it blonde during tour. Although I think she looked good, I don't think her blonde hair went well with the UMS era; it seemed to clash, however, the fact that she started dying her hair blonde during the UMS era, it lessened the suddenness of her major transitions from UMS to TBDT.

IDK if this counts, but How You Remind Me sounds similar to some of her AL songs. (The ones like HH and GYWYL)

I could recreate a few of her albums tbh but I'll go with AL for now - Release the album close after the 1st single (instead of after 3) - 17 as lead single (Hello Heartache, GYWYL, Bad Girl, YASNY - any of these for other singles) - Get rid of LMG (it's awful and dull), maybe keep HTNGU but not RNR too - Mix in some more serious songs and release them. There were too many silly, meaningless songs that gave the GP the impression her image hadn't changed since TBDT
