I Just Noticed Avril Lavigne Has Worn the Exact Same Smoky Eye for the Last 20 Years

Getty ImagesIf there's been one thing Avril Lavigne has proved she's seriously dedicated to over the years — aside from her music career, of course — it's her signature smoky eye. Don't just take our word for it, though: A quick Google search for "Avril Lavigne makeup" will show you exactly what we mean. Lavigne's love for smoky kohl eyeliner runs deep, and it's managed to stand the test of time, too. We know because we just got wind of her brand-new music video for her hit single, "I Fell in Love With the Devil," and what is she wearing? A smoky eye, of course.
If, like me, you were also a massive fan of Lavigne's music in the early aughts, then there's no doubt this video will elicit a metric ton of nostalgia for you. Not only is the music itself moody and full of the singer's usual drama, but her makeup is uncannily similar to how she wore it all throughout the 2000s. The only difference is that this time around, it appears slightly more modern and elevated. For instance, her eyeliner is definitely less messy than it used to be, and she's even wearing false lashes, which was a rare move for the rockstar earlier in her career. What's more, in a few of the scenes, she's seen wearing a bold red lip, which gives the overall look a subtle "Old Hollywood" feel.
However, aside from those minor details, it's more or less the same look we've all grown to love from Lavigne: smoky, smudgy, and very classicly Avril. Her lifelong devotion to her signature look is admirable. She might be 34 now, but this proves she's still the same person who twisted our hearts with songs like, "Complicated," "When You're Gone," and "Wish You Were Here."
