Happy Birthday, Avril Lavigne! 5 beauty lessons we learnt from the pop punk queen
Written by Anjali Agarwal on Sep 26, 2019 (Her Birthday is on 9-27-2019)
We all can agree that at some point in our lives (most likely our teen years), we were obsessed with the sk8r girl Avril Lavigne and tried to copy her looks. From singing songs like Complicated and Wish You Were Here on the top of our lungs to wearing wrist bands and black nails, we did it all. Also, remember how every girl in your school started wearing bold eyeliner and glossy lips around the same time?
Well, along with her music, the punk queen’s look spoke to us, inspired us and definitely gave us some serious beauty goals. As the pop diva turns a year younger today, let’s take a moment to appreciate all the beauty lessons we learnt for Avril Lavigne in the early 2000s.
1) Smokey eye will always be a classic
2) Glossy lipsticks make a pout look fuller
3) When in doubt, go neon
4) Poker-straight hair can be glam too
5) Coloured highlights can completely change your look

1) Smokey eye will always be a classic
If you tell us you never had the Avril Lavigne phase when you wore super dark, black liner, we’d say stop lying. Avril was never seen without a black smokey eye and is still devoted to the classic look after all this time. This trend has certainly stood the test of time.
2) Glossy lipsticks make a pout look fuller
Here’s one makeup trick we learnt from the pop star herself back then. Have thin lips? Get the gloss on! With so much drama going on with her eye makeup, she often kept her pout glossy in pretty pink or nude.
3) When in doubt, go neon
Avril Lavigne’s edgy eye makeup weren’t just limited to a black smudged liner. When she didn’t sport the gothic eye look, she painted her lids neon pink, a trend that has now made a comeback. But obviously back in the day, Avril was probably one of the only ones to rock it!
4) Poker-straight hair can be glam too
Poker straight, strawberry blonde hair became synonymous with the punk rock princess as seldom was she seen in curls. In the time when curly locks were all the rage, Avril proved that centre-parted straight locks could look equally yet effortlessly stylish.
5) Coloured highlights can completely change your look
Avril showed us how you could simply add some funky colours to your straight hair so it’s anything but boring. Her pink highlights were the reason we wanted to colour our hair so bad (it’s another thing our moms didn’t let us).
