It was most definitely written during the AL sessions.

Yep, Should've been the first single that era. I'm still pissed about it.

AL5 was a messy era. HTNGU had too many lyrics and the hook is nothing special. 17 would have been 1st single contender if the production wasn't so Disney Music, which is why I can see why Epic went with HTNGU. The perfect lead single would have been the instrumental of Bitchin Summer with lyrics that weren't so cringe inducing.
I can only dream of the album AL5 could have been if the whole album was by "the Triad" (I can't remember what they called themselves), as you can hear the quality and vision on those songs (yes - EVEN Hello Kitty!).

I don't think there's anything very good on that album. I know people like the more mature feel of the songs she did with Chad and David Hodges but they mostly suck to me too. Some are interesting ideas but few of them are really catchy and have little feeling behind them. The whole era I felt like she just didn't care and had fallen out of love with music. She had no direction which was a first for her. 17 was the catchiest thing on there. It was youthful and nostalgic without being childish or making her seem immature. The production should have been more pop rock but even without that I think it should have been a single.

^^ The album might not be good from a commercial perspective but I loved it. 17, Hush Hush, hello headache, Falling Fast being my favourites.
Songs like Sipping on sunshine though I felt forced.. like she didn’t wanna do it 😆
Even in HAW.. I feel a couple of songs were unnecessary (love me insane, bigger wow, souvenir), some other songs should have been included in the album or atleast some more.. I’m really curious about songs that were never released like fine, candy.. I wish she added those in the album..

I haven't posted here in a LONG time, but decided to add my thoughts here: to me, 17 was a nicely done song, due to reflections and reminiscence. As to the AL album, it was overall all over the place, but at the same time, it's an album that has a (mostly) very happy atmosphere to it; and that's what I appreciate about the album.
