Oh wow first time I hear this. Not enjoyable for me. I mean in my option it's barely related to Sk8er Boi. It's like someone singing a different song on a Karaoke machine.

I find it funny/interesting that Avril never acknowledged it on her social media. Like she didn’t make any kind of post about the song being out on her IG page or anything, maybe she was just really busy in the studio and wasn’t even aware it came out, but Ash also commented on Avril’s latest post with something like “My Queen!” or something and Avril didn’t reply lmao

some artist that, let's be honest, I'm sure none of us heard of until we heard she was doing this song I'm very familiar with Ashnikko lmaoo, though I'm only into her bigger songs Daisy and Cry. I thought L8r Boi was meh, not terrible but not memorable, and not something I'd be into. The beat is nice but overall the cover sounds like a watered down Sk8r Boi/different song with the new added meaning and overall vibe. I just see this, very generally speaking, as the new edgy youth - more boy bashing and "I'm too cool for you" type of narrative, but just defined in a different generation. And ofc, nearly everything from back in the day is considered offensive today I don't care that Ashnikko finds Sk8r Boi problematic, but I just think she shouldn't have covered it then. If anything, that just brings more attention to the supposedly problematic song. This makes me think Avril probably agreed to a cover but didn't know of Ash's interpretation of the original song or how she'd end up transforming it. Knowing Avril's personality type, I really doubt she'd be happy to hear about her music being problematic lol. But!!! I was still glad to see an Avril song getting covered. Just keeps that icon energy flowing onwards and hopefully drives younger peeps to discover her music. At least Avril gets some free promo for Sk8er Boi.

A little late to giving my thoughts on this, although I really wasn't a fan of this reworking. I understand what she was going for with the whole "she's an independent girl" theme, although I think it could've been addressed a lot better. I don't like how the sk8er boi in the narrative was just turned into some deadbeat who "needs a babysitter" and is punching holes in his wall. I know the characters in "Sk8er Boi" are a bit one-dimensional, but Ashnikko made the characters even more one-dimensional by simply turning it into sk8er boi = bad and independent girl = good. I'll give Ashnikko credit though, as I liked the beginning when she changed "what more can I say?" to "what the fuck does it matter anyway?". It's silly, but at least a little clever lol

I'm wondering what parts of I'm With You she would consider "problematic" lol. I'm just glad Avril didn't even mentioned the sk8er boi cover and i hope a music video would never happen LOL.

I disagree with most people. The song has nothing to do with Avril's song. It has a completely different meaning. It's talking about how a boy doesn't value the girl so she leaves him and empowers herself. It has nothing to do with skater boys, it's just showing the opposite side of Avril's song, which is equally as valid. Instead of the boy not being valued by the girl, it's the girl not being valued by the boy.
She's also breaking the taboo of female sexuality. It seems like whenever a girl talks about sex she's a whore, well actually women have every right to be sexual and to have sex with whoever they want. Many people don't like the explicit phrases. I think they are a great way of liberating women sexually. It's giving women power by destigmatising women's sexual side.

It wasn't just that she was inspired by Sk8er Boi and felt like making up her own story. She blatantly said she found the original lyrics "problematic" and decided to change them. Even though there wasn't an issue with the original lyrics in the first place.
