Has anyone seen the latest trailer for Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them?
I was surprised to hear them mention Dumbledore. I wonder if it will feature a young Dumbledore, even if only briefly.

Just seen it! Still not sure what I think of it but can't see it being bad with JK Rowling being so involved and Redmayne is a fantastic actor. Yeah I was shocked as well, hope we do see a young Dumbledore. It's nice to have a character that connects both eras.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was released 20 years ago today. Whaaaat. I'll be celebrating by sporting my Hogwarts t-shirt, rewatching one of the films (yet to decide which one) and beginning to read my new Gryffindor house edition of the Philosopher's Stone.

So I'm like 20 years late to the party but honestly growing up I was never into Harry Potter at all. Not one bit. Never read any of the books. I saw the first movie in school in the 5th grade because they made us watch it for some unknown reason but I never remembered anything about it except the Quidditch scene. Otherwise never watched any of the movies either. Everyone in my class was obsessed with either the books, the films, or both. Somehow despite never reading the books or watching the movies, I still knew the characters and the general plot of the story, the terms like Quidditch, etc. (Goes to show you the influence it had on pop culture). For awhile I had been wanting to try reading the books. Once many years ago I previewed the first book on Amazon and couldn't even get past the first page. I think back then I was one of those people who didn't like something if other people liked it, and so I probably hated it by default because everyone else loved it and I was determined to not like it. I was always a super huge fan of Tolkien and I probably thought that authors like JK Rowling were just bad imitations and that HP would never be any LOTR, or anything like that. Like I said... determined to hate it. But recently I had been wanting to give them a try. I figured they're popular for a reason. I love fantasy novels in general. The guy that I have a crush on at work was talking about them recently too and we were having a conversation about fantasy novels and he said if I liked Tolkien that I would like HP. So that may have been partially what also influenced me to start reading them. So basically I just finished the first book a couple days ago and I LOVED it! I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a book so much, especially something new to me. I was literally on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. I could feel myself actually reading faster and faster because I wanted to keep finding out what would happen next. I didn't want to stop reading and I always looked forward to my free time at home when I could pick it back up and read more. I just kept wanting to find out what was going to happen next. I now have the second book and am going to start reading as soon as I can. I think I know the general story of the whole series but I still don't want any spoilers and want to read all the books to find out what happens. I'm trying to find them secondhand in thrift shops or libraries so I don't have to buy them new, so I have to kind of look for them one by one for now. So for now I've just got the first 2 books but am gonna try to find the others. So after reading the first book I wanted to watch the first movie and see how they compare. Watched it last night and also loved it a lot, it's so weird though to see the actors being so young then since they are grown up now (especially weird to see Emma Watson this year in Beauty and the Beast and to watch her as young Hermoine). They did a pretty good job staying true to the book and didn't change anything too much. I definitely want to see all the movies also and probably watch them after I finish their respective book to see how they compare. Looking at a package on eBay that has all the films for 16 bucks, as again, I don't want to spend a fortune on it. I borrowed the first film from the library, been trying to find the films in secondhand stores but they only have certain ones. My library also doesn't seem to have them all. Anyway, that was my first experience with Harry Potter and I'm really glad I've given it a chance and now get the hype about it. I'm 20 years late, but better late than never, right? I'm also super creepy because I stalked the guy I like on Instagram and saw that he went to Harry Potter World or whatever this weekend at Universal in Orlando and they had butter beer (haven't come across that in the books yet). Maybe now I have something new to talk about with him (Harry Potter I mean, not talking about his Instagram pics ) Also I've taken quizzes in the past about what house I belong in, but took a couple more quizzes today to see, and every time I have gotten Ravenclaw as my house.

Well Bogo, welcome to club . I have this thing for the Chamber of Secrets book because it was the first Harry Potter book I read and it kind of hit me at a very precise part of my life-and was a gift by one of the people in my family whom I love the most- but in terms of quality, the books get better and better. I consider the last 3 as one of the best recent works of commercial literature.

BogoGog24 i'm happy for you that you discovered something you like so much. I also love LOTR and tolkien like books. Sometimes an excess of promotion and media coverage make us avoid some things. That is bad for the things that are great. Because with some journalists we can't distinguish quality and promotion anymore.

I just recently finished the Chamber of Secrets. I ordered a copy of the next 2 books off of eBay plus the DVD set of all the movies. In the meantime I started the Chronicles of Narnia series but I'm anxious to start the next HP book! The second book was just as thrilling as the first I think.

Chamber of Secrets shocked me because I too didn't become a fan of HP until later on (I'd seen the films up until then but didn't start reading the books until around the time OoTP came out in cinemas). I found Chamber of Secrets the most boring film out of the 5 (as there were at the time) but the book is fantastic. I made the mistake of only taking the first 3 books on holiday with me and read them in days so the first thing I did when I got back was open Goblet of Fire.
Funnily enough something inspired me to start reading them again the other day (for the 10000th time or so haha).
