what would be the point of writing music if you don't release any of it? I meant like, writing music for other people. I think it's perfectly possible that she might become a song writer in the strictest sense.

Personally I think it would be a travesty to see Avril retire after a 6th or 7th album, while Britney already has 8, Taylor has 5, Miley has 4, etc. Even if she was not up to releasing full albums, she could release EPs. Britney's manager (who I'm pretty sure us the same as Avrils) said that a full album for Brit isn't a priority right now because of her kids but she will release a few singles or EP. Avril could do the same if she had a family and wasn't interested in making full albums anymore.
Also I think there is a big difference between her saying "I won't ever wear skanky clothes" or something stupid like that and then doing it, versus saying "This is my dream. I want to do this forever." She knew for her entire life that she wanted to be a singer. Her love for music has never changed. There is a difference between her saying she won't do some dumb thing like wearing certain clothes or whatever versus her knowing in her heart that she wants to always make music. Her statement on that actually HAS been consistent still to this day.
I really hope when she is better that she wants to continue making albums or at least EPs and touring, even if it isn't on as big of a scale as it used to be. I can't imagine her stopping after so few albums when she is still so young and has much more to offer. I would be quite upset and disappointed if she never wanted to make any more albums. It's been a true joy to follow her career from the start to now and hopefully beyond. There are very few artists that I follow as closely as her and I like looking forward to new albums. But the experience of following others won't ever compare to how I feel when I follow a new era from Avril. Even if she wanted to take a few years off, that's more bearable than her quitting forever. If she released albums a lot less often I could understand and deal with that a lot better than her just stopping completely. But none of us know what her plans are in the long run.

"This is my dream. I want to do this forever." I'm sure the same words were spoken by everyone who ever made it big, stuck around for a decade and then faded into obscurity. For every Madonna or Cher or Dolly Parton, there's about a thousand other artists who came, impressed, and then went. I don't want to put a downer on people's optimism here. And of course it would be a very sad day if Avril stopped making albums and peforming her music. It's not like I'm looking forward to it. I just think we need to be realistic when talking about what could happen next. Do some of you genuinely believe she has this kind of staying power, or are you just wanting it to happen really badly?

I just think we need to be realistic when talking about what could happen next. Do some of you genuinely believe she has this kind of staying power, or are you just wanting it to happen really badly?A lot of people thought she'd be a one and done after her first album. She's still around after a decade when many people thought she'd be gone after her first album. The last couple records haven't brought results as good as her first 3, but that was more the fault of her record labels than Avril. She has managed to reinvent herself every time and make something fresh and new. You need to be able to do that to stay relevant in the pop world and she did that at least for her first 3-4 albums. Where she started to fall was when RCA delayed GL and did not give it proper promo. Even WTH, without much promo, managed to peak just outside the Top 10 on BB and sold 1 million copies. HTNGU, with even less promo, was a Top 20 hit and also sold 1 million copies. That's actually pretty good for someone that was away from the music scene for a few years and didn't have much promo. She still has millions of fans all around the world who will support her. I mean, she's not a nobody. If we were talking about somebody who was on The Voice or something, you'd have a point. But Avril was essentially one of the biggest, if not the biggest, pop star of 2002 and 2003. She's not as big or popular as she used to be, but neither are a lot of others who started when she did. That doesn't mean she still couldn't release music and do small tours. As I said, things may never be on the giant scale they once were, but that doesn't mean she can't still make music and tour. Even tiny little nobody indie bands do it. If they can, so can Avril. If we're trying to be realistic, I don't think thinking she is going to quit music forever is realistic at all. I think what could realistically happen is that after this album or a few years down the line, she and Chad would have a baby or she would take some time off for her personal life. And maybe when the kid was old enough to go to school or something, that would give her more time to work on new music. There are plenty of celebrities who have children who are still able to make time for their careers. It just depends on what your priorities are. I think it would be important for Avril to spend time with her kids when they were young, before they reached school age, and I'm sure being the homebody she is she feels that same way and that spending time with her family is important to her. But once the kids are in school or whatever, what else would she do with her life? She gets bored easily, I could see her at least always writing new stuff and recording in her home studio. She is doing that even now that she is ill. She was writing new songs while still on tour. She could have stopped making music for the rest of her life probably after her first record, given how much money she made, but she chose to keep doing this because she clearly loves it and enjoys it. The fact that she always seems to be writing, even when not actually booked in the studio, I think says a lot about how she still feels about her music career.

Yeah, I think we will get a few songs about struggle and coming out on the other side. "coming out of the dark place". Kind of vibe.

I'm not really motivated to discuss about her next album, cause I feel it will be a looong time until we will get to hear it... (I mean a real album, not greatest hits or christmas)

I think it's time for a Greatest Hits album, maybe she could include 3 new songs.. She doesn't need to record it, just use the best songs she recorded for AL or any other album that didn't make the album cut.

I dunno why some of you are so indifferent about Christmas record from Avril like its gonna be bad. Don't you remember that Avril touches music beginning from hymn bc their parents made her to go to church regularly? She must have a part of knowledge about that.

Personally I think Christmas music is really boring and you can listen to it only 1 month a year, so that's why I dont like it..

It would be fine to put out a christmas album this year but in the new year have a 'real' album.
