Id say a good 70% of fans now days are international in south America and Asia and that's a modest estimate. Why is that is it just the kind of music they like or is it that Americans are too quick to brush off Avril as a poser and stereotype her. Any insights?

I really don't know but it's a fact that whatever she releases her albums will still get certified in Japan, China, Taiwan and Brazil. Global icon.

Aye, and the UK seems to have all but forgotten her.

Don't know, it could be because the US is just a bigger market, with new artists coming out all the time and music moves quickly here. It's easy to get forgotten about here if you don't release music fast enough.
I do know that in Japan they like girls that don't follow the stereotypical feminine style and that they like edgy women, so it makes sense why artists such as Avril and Lady Gaga are popular there.

I'd say easy lyrics, deep message.
The fact the lyrics come from Avril aren't difficult to understand. A lot of people in non-English speaking countries can totally relate to the lyrics since there are not many local slang and difficult vocabs going on. Yet, her songs have very emotional melody and perspective (IMO, most of the songs with quality melody and mood usually have difficult lyrics). Thats why she is such popular nationally. This is only thing I could tell as Asian, you can use or not but its true. And BTW, Girlfriend

Not all Asian countries. Korea forgot her.
A lot of people mistake her for Taylor Swift.
Me : I luv Avril Lavigne
Response : Heard she's really tall
Me : Oh yeah, she's incredibly tall. BTW were you living under a rock?
-> As I mention songs like Complicated, Sk8er Boi
Response : Oh I definitely know them
-> As I mention Girlfriend
Response : Oh that annoying song when we were in highschool. But heck, u sure that's the same singer?

^ Ha, if someone uses the word tall to describe Avril, that's a clear sign that they have no idea who they're talking about! lol

Yeah I would also say the simple lyrics are a factor. I've heard a lot of fans say they learned English because of her songs.

"International market loves Avril Lavigne so much"
Huh.
That is equal too....
"Avril Lavigne is not loved in nations where English is an official language."
