Yeah we were quite shocked but since she has done a few different albums in her career I think people wouldn't be that shocked anymore. It's not she made the same kind of albums througout her career so people are a bit more used to a sort of change. I think people are more shocked when a young artsist 'suddenly' makes a change. Look at Britney (I'm a Slave 4 You) and Christina (Dirrty). Avril made a few changes already so it's not that big of a deal. Agree, honestly I would be more shocked (and selfishly thrilled) if she continued to make pop punk and found a way to add new elements to the genre. Like tackling new subjects or reflecting on old subjects from a new grown up point of view and including new instruments and effects and melodies and having unexpected collaborations. Some genre crossing collaborations even. Basically leading the way and creating something new and fresh out of something old and gold would be my ideal direction for her.

Avril Lavigne has talked about making a Classic Rock album,Country album and a Christmas album.I'm fine with anything honestly, guitar driven music suits her the best. I’m gonna need that Christmas record for SURE though. I definitely want her to rock out a bit for some of it along with the beautiful ballads though. Santa Claus Is Coming Town could definitely use some guitars 😌

I love when people refer to rock as her “roots,” when country IS actually her roots lol Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but for a long time I’ve felt country and jazz suit her way better than rock. Her voice doesn’t pull off rock music IMO. Miley Cyrus, for example, KILLS at rock music. Avril’s voice is too soft and clear, there is no roughness or edginess to her voice and IMO she just can’t pull off rock music convincingly. But country and jazz fit her voice like a glove. I think this take is interesting because her clear, crisp vocals and country/pretty melodies accompanied with her attitude and delivery of those vocals over electric guitars is the formula that set her a part and basically made a sub genre of its own. I’m sure you already know this but I’m saying this to underscore that, yes, she would have fit in perfectly within country when she came out and sounded like the absolute song bird she is, but it wouldn’t have been fresh, standout or add anything particularly new and essential to that genre or the music scene at large. Her spirit, energy and raw honesty are what give those clear, pretty vocals an unexpected, ever youthful bite and I think that’s what made and continues to make her special. Miley definitely fits the classic rock arena, and honestly country, well with her vibrato and rasp, just as Demi fits the pop rock/pop punk arena well due to their voice, but Avril did not settle into or seek out an area where she would fit easy, she forced and fought her way into a male dominated genre and essentially, I’d say, created a kind of a new genre which was and continues to be emulated in the process. It’s the softness and emotional musing one minute followed by the high Avril belts at the end that make those songs completely her own. And as side effect to doing her own thing is that nobody can do Avril like Avril.

And a cover of Hard Candy Christmas or You Make This A Christmas To Remember by Dolly Parton along with her one or two Avril original Christmas singles 🥺 Talk about a gift

Okay all you country music lovers, here is some interesting news. At the “ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC HONORS™”, Avril Lavigne is listed as a performer. WTH?
I'm speculating here, a duet with Shania Twain, or Avril singing a Shania Twain song in her honor, for the career boost/start?
The 15th Annual ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC HONORS will air Tuesday, Sept. 13 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT)
This year's honorees include Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, Shania Twain, late industry veteran Connie Bradley,
songwriter Sonny Throckmorton, and Kevin Costner-led hit show "Yellowstone," among others.

Yes this was announced.a couple weeks ago. I heard there will be a tribute performance for Shania so Avril is likely part of a group performance singing a medley of Shania’s songs.

I’m totally on board with Avril doing something a bit different. I don’t know if I’d like it because I really don’t listen to country music but I’d love to see what she does branching away from her norm.

Ok I think I never reacted to this thread so far for whatever reason haha.
I'm not sure if Avril could write a country song herself she definitely has the voice for it, but lyric-wise I think she'd need some help.
But I could totally see her sing something like this:
I feel like that would be the kind of country music Avril would want to do. And she would absolutly kill it with songs like that

Ashley McBrydes style of country would suit her I think. It’s got a bit of a rocky edge:
Hardy is another:
She’d need a lot of help lyrically but I could see her doing songs like this tbh. I don’t see her going full old school country, I don’t think she could pull it off and still seem genuine. But look at the likes of Luke Combs and Morgan Wallen - they’re absolutely huge and doing a more rock influenced style of country and smashing it. There’s a market for it!
