This post is to discuss Avril's music influences and singers/bands that follows Avril's music as one of their influence. It might be cool if we also show quotes and videos about the bands and singers she cited, and the ones who cited Avril Before the 2000s Avril seems to be influenced more to country acts, then from the 00's to 2007 she tend to listen more to punk, alternative, and nü-metal acts... and nowadays to jazz and some mainstream pop stuff. According MTV and AllMusic some of her musical influences are: blink-182, Sum 41, Green Day, Nirvana, System of a Down, Incubus, Lisa Loeb, Alanis Morissette, Shania Twain, The Hanson, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty, Natalie Imbruglia, Coldplay, No Doubt.Avril released an album with some of her musical influences which also includes: The Distillers, Marilyn Manson, Chumbawumba, The Archies, The Beach Boys, Janis Joplin, The Cranberries.During UMS era, it seems that she listened more heavier music, she cited some of the previous band mentioned ( Marilyn Manson, The Distillers) plus: The Used, Hole, Radiohead, NOFX, Courtney Love. She said she's a big Sex Pistols fan. During TBDT era she also cited Peaches.
I assumed that Lenny Kravitz, Joan Jett, Bob Dylan and Metallica were also one of her influences. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Artist influenced by Avril Lavigne?
According MTV and AllMusic: Aly & AJ, Busted, Charlotte Sometimes, Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, Jessie J, Jonas Brothers, Brie Larson, Danielle McKee, Paris Hilton, Lesley Roy, Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale, Ariana Grande, Paramore, Amy Studt, Miranda Crosgrove, .
This article also cites: Hilary Duff, Kelly Clarkson, Ashlee Simpson, Fefe Dobson.
Liz Phair, the indie rock queen of the 90s who paved ways for alternative-rock chicks with her most vibrant songwriting with its mix of explicit confessions, punk-feminist attitude and rough-'round-the-edges sonics.... was influenced by Let Go to start her new way to mainstream pop-rock. She said: "I first heard Avril's song [`Complicated'] blasting from a car while I was walking around Manhattan Beach, then again a few days later blasting from another car, and I'm like who the hell is that?" Phair says. "I heard a powerful girl -- it's a sweet voice, not totally scratched up and raw like Courtney Love, but you could tell it was someone with a strong opinion. I love Norah Jones, but her impact is soft; she has more in common with Vanessa Carlton and Michelle Branch. But `Complicated' was confrontational, and I liked that. And there were four hooky parts in the song. Just when you thought you had heard the main hook, another vocal line would come flying in, and it would arch to a new high point. It was like, `Damn! Are you kidding me?' Maybe that doesn't excite you, or it's horrifying to you that I'm excited by that, but I was totally blown away. I just remember feeling a pang of jealousy, thinking I'd love to have a song like that."
Kelly Osbourne also cited being a fan of Avril: "People might be surprised to find I own a copy (of Avril's album). Every time someone looks through my CD collection they go, 'You have this?!' And I'm like, 'Yeah, I do, I like it'. "
Punk cabaret star, Amanda Palmer cited: "nobody back then understood my obsession with avril's second record, the worlds perfect pop masterpiece of candy-coated teen angst, not even me." She even did a cover video of Together and played it on tour.
Krystal Meyers, the Christian answer to Avril Lavigne, doesn't cited Avril as her influence but recognized being similar to her: "I've been compared many a time to Avril, which I can see, but you know that's because there aren't a lot of people to compare to. There's not a lot of girls that are doing like the solo, pop/punk thing. But of course Avril has completely different morals and all that kind of stuff. "
Misono, former former lead singer of J-pop trio Day After Tomorrow cited Avril as an influence in her music transition from J-pop to guitar-wielding rock chick.
Skye Sweetnam, Katy Rose and Lillix have been accused of a clone-version of Avril. And Emily Osment first EP to be Avril-influenced chick rock
Members 5 Seconds of Summer cited Avril Lavigne as influence on some of their tweets.
Jenna from pop-punk band Tonight Alive said: "Avril's first two albums had a lot to do with my early attraction to pop punk music. You wouldn't exactly call her a veteran of the genre but before I'd even entered my teen years, her debut album 'Let Go' had began moulding my future. Everything down to the way Avril dressed took over me and like Gwen Stefani, her edge and attitude inspired me from a young age. I was always fascinated by the idea of not giving a shit about what other people thought or had to say; coming to actually live out that ideal is another story but Avril's songs were some of the first (like Missy Higgins') that I learnt to play and both artists were a big part of why I started song writing. To be honest everything I see and hear from her these days genuinely pisses me off but 'I'm With You' and 'Losing Grip' are still two of my favourite songs"
Pop punk band Hey Monday and former singer from the band, Cassade Pope cited Avril as a key influence.
Taylor Swift cited her during her duo with Avril on San Diego.

Cool thread!! Theres one thing I still don't understand. If I may quote Paramore's Wikipedia site: Joshua Martin had written after an interview with Hayley Williams, "The band isn't just a short pop-punk girl with red hair and a spunky attitude. Their music is like them, it's aged differently. It's sped up, and slowed down. It's emo without being whiny, or bratty. Almost a very literal anti-Avril Lavigne." Why "anti-Avril Lavigne" ?

Demi Lovato has also said Avril influenced her. I don't have any direct sources but I know that Demi is a big fan of hers.

I'm guessing he is meaning to say that he thinks Avril's music is emo, whiny, and bratty while Paramore's isn't.

I had always thought Paramore's songs were awfully boring, but that was before Taylor Whatsis joined the band and Brand New Eyes was released.
I like some of their songs.
Josh Farro, former lead guitarist of Paramore loves Avril Lavigne

I would definitely call some of Paramore's music emo, whiny and bratty. I mean that was the thing in 2007 haha. And I've seen them twice and have all their music up to their self titled album. But I wouldn't say they were similar to Avril either.

*Goes on and records TBDT
To label Paramore as a band influenced by Avril just because they are female fronted, might be too much. They never cited Avril as their influences, and actually dissed her around 2010.

Does the album "Avril Lavigne Influences" exist?
Taylor Swift should be in the list of "be influenced"
Charli XCX's too
And Kesha influence Avril a bit too. Hello Kitty Dunno if Kesha is influenced by Avril's TBDT or Kesha influences Avril

A Kesha-Avril-Collab would actually be really cool. They would fit very well together One of my friends said that Kesha is the "Electro-Dance-Version" of Avril

I definitely think Kesha and others got that talk-singing thing from Avril. Avril started doing that with TBDT era in 2007 which was a good few years before Kesha came around. I doubt Avril invented that style of singing but she certainly popularized it and other artists followed suit.
