But why wouldn't she want to give the rights to fans that actually care? Isn't Bandaids Avril's first fansite? I feel sorry for the old site and all the exclusive material it had, but if renaming this forum into something else is an option, then we should do it. Distance ourselves from the original forum as much as we can.

Its really sad to hear that bandaids will never come back. But on the other hand, i think it would be good for us (real supportive fans not the ones who turned BA to a mess) to leave this BA history and make a new fresh start with a new site and a new name. I dont actually care about the post database of this site since its a "temporary" forum. Imo its better for us to move on with selecting a new site name and continue with a brand new story.

Why didn't they just say the site is not coming back when they found out that it's not coming back? The ''definitely permanent *wink*'' remark is so saucy. I'm so mad right now. Won't even imagine how the current admins and mods here feel. atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/shutup.gif

The sad part is if we loose the bandaids part of our community, the community will be just like any other fansite. It's sad to loose the Bandaids history but I also understand the way you all think. I think this isn't something we can decide fast,we need to think of all options aswell as perhaps contact sharifa, like a letter from the whole crew and all members, to see if it would be possible to get full permission or if she still always will and want to be the 1st admin.

But if she wants to remain as the 1st admin, then why doesn't she act as one? She should be the first one doing the best she can to put everything in order, to keep the users satisfied, to at least SAY SOMETHING. She's been in the dark all these months in "ghost mode". At least say: "Hey, sorry but BA is not coming back due to this and that", and that would do it. But no, she loves this whole secrecy nonsense. I'll give it to her, she's the reason we're all here in the first place, but right now she's not living up to expectations because she obviously doesn't care about the site any longer. What's the point of holding onto something and claiming to be the rightful owner of a name if you're not going to take care of it?

The community is still the community regardless of what we are called. I don't honestly see the huge deal about changing the name or making a brand new site of our own. It is more for legal rights and control over the site than anything else.

The Staff has decided to wait and see what happens before we do anything with this site/a new site- Francy is meeting with Sharifa in 2 weeks so we will get some answers then. We will still try and get answers in the meantime though as 2 weeks is kind of a long wait

^ Bless Francy, I know she is international BA staff, but a least she has some connections to the "silent" main staff of BA and is still somewhat active. I hope she is able to give us some answers.
Anyway, making a new site would be the worst option in my opinion. Regardless that this site was made a temporary solution to BA.com, and maybe we haven't quite grown attached to this site as we had on BA; but putting everyone through switching to a different site all over again just seems like a bad mood. We would lose so much by moving again (mostly we would lose members), especially since the domain and name would be different.
Ultimately, changing the name to this existing site is almost literally a piece of cake. The name is just the text that gets plastered on the banner (i.e. - quick fix: make new banner). And no one would have to remove the redirect because if this site gained a new name, the url would need changed as well in order to compliment the new forum name. Once the url is changed (which is $10), poof, the redirect disappears because this site would no longer have the url that BA.com redirects to.
And I highly doubt there was any formal documents made or signed in the making of this temporary site. So, if in the case that this would even be possible, but we could essentially redirect this site's current url to whatever the changed url would be, if the name and url do get changed. But if the url is changed, the old (current) url would be without use and might not be able to be redirected.
In the end, despite the stickiness of the situation, I don't think that we'll have to feel the wrath of Sharifa. Like others have been saying, if she hasn't been putting effort into bringing BA back or communicating with active members, it is most likely that she wouldn't put in any effort to do anything about this site's existence. She didn't care that this was being made while BA was still coming back, so why would she care now that BA won't come back?

She didn't care that this was being made while BA was still coming back, so why would she care now that BA won't come back? Well I guess Blizz'a concern is that we may not be legally allowed to just change the name of the temp forum because Sharifa gave us permission to make this forum under the name BA but not under a different name. Making a new site would cost money and be a lot of work and it would be a big transition but I think in the end it would be worth it. I think the people who really still care about Avril and her career have stuck with her through this temp forum, like if you really still care about keeping up with her you will find any source you can. Those of us who are still interested in her I'm sure wouldn't have a huge problem of moving to a new site. Those who aren't already here now most likely won't come back regardless of what we do with the site. Even if the old BA came back I'm still not sure how many old members would return because I think a lot of people left simply because the upgrade took so long and there isn't much going on with Avril right now. The people who have remained active here are the ones who would still be here if we redo the site. And look at how many new members we got while this temp forum was open. Anybody who's interested in Avril can easily Google for fansite and a lot of times this is the first to come up, we also have ways of communicating this info through Twitter so that old or new members can easily find us. I really think the members we've already lost most likely wouldn't have returned anyway and the rest of us who are still active here know what's going on and wouldn't leave if we knew a new site was being built. But I guess we'll just have to wait awhile and see if Francy can give us any answers. Maybe she can ask Sharifa if she can hand over the rights to someone else, or if we can change the name of the forum.

Why didn't they just make an announcement about bandaids not coming back as opposed to a small easily overlooked comment on a facebook post? I get the feeling that they knew for quite some time that they weren't going to bring bandaids back but just didn't say anything.
In a way I think this is good, of course it leaves us with a bit of a sticky situation regarding the fansite name etc but at least whatever happens now it will be owned and ran by people who are actually active and care about the site.

IMO that's precisely why they handled it that way- they probably thought that if they said the site wasn't coming back that there'd be a ton of backlash and angry comments, even though I don't think that really would have happened at all, especially if they announced it when the temp site was already running. I think they believed a cheeky comment on a random FB post would go unnoticed so that they wouldn't have to bear blame for anything. They probably just thought we'd figure it out on our own eventually, which most of us did, that months ago most of us sort of figured the site wasn't going to come back. They took the cowardly way out of it by refusing to acknowledge us or respond to Marliz's messages and just let us figure it out on our own and confirmed it with a cheeky FB comment. I will be so interested to hear what Sharifa has to say about all of this.

We will anyway never loose our connection. We still have Twitter, FB and all that stuff. Of course, it's not the same as a forum, but still something...

There aren't any binding contracts. Just because Sharifa gave this site permission to use the Bandaids name doesn't make it hers or give her final legal say. Avril promotes products all the time, but that give her ownership of the companies that she endorses. Same concept here, this site was given permission to use the Bandaids name to gain attraction and attention for members to discover it and know Bandaids was still alive somehow, but Sharifa is in no way the owner of this site. I really don't think she has any delegation here.
Now if this was BA.com and was running fine and Sharifa had passed on the reigns to someone else to run but remained the owner, that would be different. But this is a completely different situation.
About creating a new forum (…again), we would lose more than just existing or potential new members. We would lose time by waiting for a new site to be erected, we'd lose functionality as we lost more time waiting for the site to gain the same status level as this site. We would have to create everything all over again. It just doesn't seem like the best option to me. We already had to leave a site we all loved and had to completely start over on another; why go through that or be put through that again? Aside from what we would lose by creating yet another site, I don't think changing this site to a new name and url will be difficult at all.

The worst thing is we might have to change the name on this site. Period. And if bandaids aren't copyrighted, there are more than me in the world named Karen, but it wouldn't hurt to change it. Like someone said, Avril is going through the biggest change in her life, maybe we should take a facelift too
