www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/on-the-couch-kyle-and-jackie-o-on-their-worst-ever-interview/story-fnndfy6b-1227565105815
KIIS FM radio duo Kyle and Jackie O told news.com.au’s On The Couch with Melissa Hoyer that the worst person they ever interviewed was none other than “Sk8er Girl” Avril Lavigne.
“In the beginning she was really hard work,” said Jackie of their interview a number of years ago, “and I do remember she came in the studio and she just wasn’t into it and she was sitting next to me and I asked her a question she just [huffed] and didn’t answer and then she was so difficult.
“She’s great now because she was just a kid back then.”
Kyle said the awkward interaction led the pair to figure out a new strategy for dealing with Lavigne — and other celebrities who clearly didn’t feel like being interviewed.
“After that interview we decided to book her in for half an hour at a time,” Kyle said. “And when she would get in she didn’t want to be there, and we made a deal where we said give us five minutes of happy and chatty and then we will finish the interview and she was like ‘Oh, OK, only five minutes instead of half an hour’.
“You have to work around these people and their attitudes and their emotions as well.”

So I'm assuming they're talking about her from the LG era? Yeah she wasn't great with interviews then. I'm glad at least they threw in "She's great now though," although frankly I think it's really classless to even answer this question at all.

I assume they wanted to talk about "how they have dealt with difficult celebrities in the past," and Avril of Let Go era - unprofessional, since at that time she was a (bratty) young girl who had just debuted in Hollywoods - was the perfect example of a "hard work" interviewee.
Edit : Oh, and there's a video in the link.

Why is it "classless" to give an honest answer to a perfectly reasonable question? They didn't say anything unkind or untrue about her. Even you acknowledge "she wasn't great with interviews then". I thought it was a professional response that was not overly critical or offensive.

Avril has never been good with interviews at all, even now she still struggles with them, even though she no longer gives one word answers. You can tell she dislikes being interviewed and that's OK, no one can be great at everything, not even superstars - we are all human.

How many times has Avril been asked what she thinks about this celebrity or that celebrity and she'll either say something nice or just say nothing at all. I just think it is a bit mean to pick on one specific person when asked a question like this. They could have answered it more generally and said "Well, we've had a few experiences of working with difficult people," they didn't have to answer anyone specifically by name and call them out publicly. At least they did have the decency to say how much they like Avril now, but I still think they could have either not answered at all or given a more general answer without mentioning specific people. It's just plain classless to do that.

Avril isn't innocent when it comes to celebrity bashing; I'm pretty sure she's voiced her opinion very negatively in the past about Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, Christina Aguilera etc. These radio guys never slated Avril, they were merely giving an honest answer. Also for these radio guys, there job is to interview celebs, so it probably makes there job really hard when you get a difficult person to interview. They probably mentioned Avril because it impacted there memory so much that they still remember it as being the most difficult interview they've probably ever had. “She’s great now because she was just a kid back then.” They gave an honest answer and then praised Avril. Nothing classless about that.

Actually I became her fan after I read her Hillary Duff diss interview in 2004 and laughed my ass off. Loved the interview. She looked, well, very "authentic".
Avril isn't really "bad" with interviews - yeah, she had some problems in the past (like staring down at her shoes) and it's obvious she often dislikes being interviewed, but she's not one of those people who suck at interviews like stammering, or even freezing during the talk. Maybe "unprofessional" would be the right word.
The problem with Avril (in her early career) was that she didn't always try to conceal her irritations when she was moody.
The famous Avril-quote of Let Go era -
I recall an angry father's complaint on internet (in 2004), that when he took her daughter (7? 8? not sure how old) to one of Avril's acoustic concerts and lined up for Avril's autograph, Avril looked quite grumpy. When it was their turn, his daughter happily walked up to her idol, but Avril looked up, saw her, stood up and said "What the hell am I doing here?" and stormed out with her securities yelling after her. In his comment (yes, if I'm correct it was a comment on some blog), the father called her a bitch for breaking her daughter's heart, and added that he was at least thankful for making his daughter stop liking her.

Can you really blame Avril from back then? I remember her saying something like people wouldn't ask her about her music, or she'd get asked about/compared to other artists, or it was the same questions she always gets. I really don't blame 2002 Avril. But none of that is even relavent anymore.

Nothing classless about that. Avril used to diss celebrities back when she first started but she quickly realized how stupid and mean that was to do. Since then whenever she's asked what she thinks about a certain celeb, she tries to find something nice to say about them, even with controversial celebs. She was asked what she thought about Amanda Bynes during the years when she was doing crazy things, and while Avril wouldn't have been wrong or cruel in saying "She's crazy and needs help," it wouldn't have been nice or professional. She said instead that she met her once in the bathroom at an event and that from that one experience, she said she was nice and it was a positive experience. Just because you can say something about someone and you wouldn't be incorrect or overly mean in saying it, doesn't mean you always should. A classy person refrains from publicly speaking negatively about other people. Half the time celebs are only asked these kinds of questions to stir up shit and sling mud and Avril knows better than to take the bait.

Competely unprovoked. She's human, she talks too much sometimes. all that aside, this was a career retrospective for these radio hosts; they answered with as much honesty and class as they possibly could! They're interviewers themselves so they know how frustrating a "no comment" answer would be, so instead they used a personal journey and a career improvement as an example.

Agree to disagree then. Also, the Xtina diss was not unprovoked. Christina acted really snotty towards Avril, like she was a nobody. If it's ok for these radio hosts to say what they think about Avril when asked, then why was it not ok for Avril to talk about Xtina when she was asked?
