Couldn't we say the same thing about Avril though? Just because they're not big anymore doesn't mean they should just pack it in (I am aware you didn't actually say this and probably wasn't hinting at it - I'm just making my point) I think Avril should try to work with Justin Bieber or someone more current. I have every faith in Avril. 5th album collaboration with Nickelback frontman, 6th album with Justin Bieber. How beautiful. This will be called Canadian Trinity Force of Pop Music. Certainly impossible to hate.

Am I the only one who doesnt really think the song is "outdated"? I mean compare to 5SOS, theyre super "big" right now and hyped, and in my ears their music are very Avril-ish bubble gum pop rock-ish. The problem I think is that it's outdated that Avril does this type of music, not the music itself. I think people want something new of her and that's all. To be honest, even if she released a smashing song I don't think she would get the audience back again unless she makes a drastic change or a collaboration with a very active artist. Because people think it's cool to dislike artists like Avril. But then again, is it really important for avril to smash again? It sometimes feels like some of the fans wants her to be #1 again so much ,we aren't even sure if Avril wants it anymore. Maybe she's just comfortable making music she likes and does it for the fun. She might feel like she have already had her time in the spotlight. Yeah I completely agree. Ofc it would be fab if she did get another #1 but it's not needed. I just hope that with her next album she does well enough to come back to do a few small shows in the UK so I can go see her again I really do think she did Get Over Me just for fun and a one off. But she seems to really enjoy the upbeat, silly songs. And it's her life.

Cool! Hopefully maybe they'll consider adding it into their playlist or other stations will decide to play it as well. And even if not, at least $10,000 is going to a worthy cause out of it. I hope Nick gives some details about the song, like why he wanted Avril to be on it, etc.

This song kind of slays half of her last album.

I think Avril should try to work with Justin Bieber or someone more current. I have every faith in Avril. JB? Please no. I think Avril would just look really desperate trying to collaborate with current, younger artists. I'd rather she work with people she genuinely wants to work with, even if they aren't current or relevant. Completely agree! I think that not only it would look a bit desperate if she was trying to collaborate with mainstream, younger and more current artists, but also the end result wouldn't really suit her overall musical style imo. I'd rather she collaborate with people she really wants to collaborate with and not just people that are successful and mainstream.

Yeah, but what's the point in releasing a song as a single when it's doomed to flop from the beghining and not even get some airplay? Sure, fans from both sides will enjoy the fact that Nick and Avril collaborated on a song, but I don't think the song's going to do well on the charts. It's going to flop imo. And so what if it'll keep Avril on people's minds for a little while? They'll forget about her again. Anyway, for some reason I keep on feeling like this song getting released as a single isn't a good idea at all. We don't know whether it'll flop or not. Nick even provided an incentive for radio stations to play it by offering $5,000 to a charity of the station's choice. By that logic, I guess Avril should never release a single ever again because they all flop. Besides, it's not just about radio play but publicity. They could get a gig performing it together. Everyone complains so much that Avril isn't relevant anymore- this song would give her some attention. She is always going to have to remind people of her existence. One song is not going to make people remember her, she has to keep releasing things and staying in the press just like she always has and like every other artist does. Just because people will forget her again means she shouldn't release anything? Some publicity for a duet with a BSB member is still better than her staying at home and being silent. She'll just go even further into obscurity if she doesn't do anything. This song was clearly recorded with the intent to be a single, that's usually what collaborations are for. Otherwise what was the point in asking her to be on it? While I agree with the points you listed above, I believe that the GP wants something different from her at this point. And "Get Over Me" isn't something we haven't heard before. Sure, it'll get some airplay, the fans from both sides will enjoy the collaboration between them and the song will certainly get at least some publicity and attention. But I highly doubt that's what the GP wants from her musically.

Apparently Elvis Duran was drunk when he read Nick's tweet and thought he had done the song with Alanis Morissette, lol.
Nick says he wanted to release the song because he got a lot of positive feedback on it.
ETA: Elvis asks him how Avril is doing and he says she is doing well. He talks about the bond they formed over the BSB tour and that having her be on the song inspired her to get back into writing music again and that he might write some songs with her on her next album.

The DJs really liked the song. They also matched Nick's donation of $5,000 to donate a total of $10,000 to St. Jude's.

Sure, it'll get some airplay, the fans from both sides will enjoy the collaboration between them and the song will certainly get at least some publicity and attention. But I highly doubt that's what the GP wants from her musically. To be perfectly honest with you I don't think she is even on the GP's radar at this point. The only people who probably care at all about her and her music are her fans, I don't think the GP is even thinking about what kind of music they'd want to hear from her. I don't really see GOM as a big deal because it's not her song. The song was released to radio as a one-time thing for charity and IMO that's what's important. It'll get a bit of publicity probably because of that and maybe they'll make a video together or something and that'll be it. Since it's not Avril's own song I'm not concerned about people wanting something new from her or whatever. Nick said in the interview that Avril doing this song helped inspire her to get back into writing again, and of course with the donation to St. Jude's, I think that's what really matters. It's just one song that was played one time.
