I don’t know about insecure but more like emotionally unstable. Very impulsive, hence the fast relationship/engagement then inevitable breakup everyone but her saw coming. I feel bad for her, it just hasn’t been a good year for her. As far as I know she’s already working o new music. Her latest album got mixed reviews, lots of negative reviews about Pharrell’s involvement in particular. Definitely. Manchester would’ve been horrendous for anyone but things just seem to have piled up on top of that recently. It’s sad because I thought she dealt with Manchester really maturely, publicly at least. She really should take a break from the limelight and get things in order.

True points but she stole my heart at the Manchester benefit concert. I wish her well.

Well out of nowhere she drops this absolute Masterpiece. I’m thinking “Thank You, Next” will have some long legs. It’s so insightful and wise I’m not worried about her anymore. Yea.

I think it’s a decent song and a good concept, but some of the lyrics make me cringe a little. Like “Her name is Ari,” “I turned out amazing.” I get it’s supposed to be a self-empowerment anthem but it comes off a bit self-aggrandizing. For some reason the whole thing comes off a bit like the kind of thing a 12 year old girl would think after dumping her 2-week boyfriend, probably because most of her fans are so young. On the other hand, I do get the concept of self-love and thanking your exes for what they’ve taught you, using it to make yourself better, and having a relationship with yourself is enough. Musically it’s better than some of the stuff on sweetener. However, it’s also repetitive. But then again I thought God is a Woman was alright at first but now I love it. That Mac Miller line is heartbreaking though.

Your critiques are always insightful and I get your points. They are valid. I guess what came through to me, as a grown man, was knowing how fragile she’s been since Manchester and all that’s happened since then, she lays down this bittersweet and wistful track that yes, almost hints that’s she’s pulling herself up by her bootstraps, but at the same time has me rooting for her broken heart and cheering her on towards strength and maturity......it’s brave and sad at the same time. So I felt her art there. But that’s just me.

Check out the vid where’s she on Ellen last week.
Side note: Do y’all think she’s being facetious with the “I’m so f*#king grateful for my ex,”’line?

Just watched the Ellen performance earlier today, it was so great!
No I don’t think she’s being sarcastic with that line. The song is about taking what you’ve been through and learning from it, rather than bashing. She learned different things from her exes, she is saying thank you because it made her who she is today and made her stronger.

I thought that at first but when she showed up on Ellen in the wedding attire at what looks like a wedding party I started thinking the joke was on us, or maybe Pete.

I think it’s simply a reference to how she almost got married and her very public engagement and subsequent breakup. I thought it was clever and kind of almost a self-parody or self-awareness thing.
