I know old post but whatever. So i was born in 02 when let Go Came out, obviously i was too young i have no memory of Complicated playing on the radio or anything. I was 2 when UMS came out and again no Memory of it. In 07 tho, I remember Girlfriend was everywhere and i remember always hearing that song on the radio and on stores. But I was 4/5 I didnt process it. 2011 i was into Victorious, and 2013 I was into Katy Perry> Which is funny cuz Prisim came out like 2 weeks before self titled. So Fast forward to 2020, I knew Complicated, I knew Sk8er boi,, and Girlfriend somehow. i didn't hear them recently but during COVID i was like I want ot listen tot hat song Complicated and sk8er boi and Girlfriend, didn't have an interest in hearing her other music yet. SO I always listened to those 3 songs. I remember my friend sent me What The Hell? Not noticing who it is, and asked yo doesn't this song feel nostalgic? I listemed to like 30 seconds and was like I dont really care. Fast Forward to November 2021, Spotify recommended Bite me to me, because it had just came out. I listened to it, thought it was good, but didnt listen to it again. Fast Forward end of Jan 2022, I heard Love Sux was coming out, so i was like oh, i should listen to more of her music> so I listened to LG, UMS, and TBDT, and realized Avril rules. So I started to lisetn to her more, watch her videos, watch her concerts,. When Love Sux came out I listened to her on repeat and fell in love with Avril, pop punk, and everything. Thats when i became an instant Avril fan. I know she isn't in the height of the popularity but i dont care i still love her. I love all her albums and her music!! Cant wait to see her perform one day

I love this thread and reading everyone's stories on how they got into Avril. I'm going to share mine. I was 12 years old and I remember my brothers best friend coming around to my house, him and my brother was sat on the sofa in our livingroom and I was watching music channels on TV, I loved music and would watch music videos to no end.
I remember I was watching Shakira whenever wherever and my brothers friend said you look like Avril lavigne have you heard of her? I said no and we spent a good 10minutes looking on the music channels for Avril, then complicated video came on, I remember staring in awe and shouting 'OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS' and from then on watched everything to do with her, interviews music videos.
I had terrible self esteem and was bullied by my classmates all the way through school, I got called fat even though I wasn't, I got pushed down steps, laughed at for everything I said to the point I didn't speak at school anymore. My teachers would also hit me and I seen myself as this annoying kid who no one wanted to be around and I had no friends. I ended up having an eating disorder for 5 years which i feel im am fully recovered now but i would of had a bad couple of months which it hasnt happened in a long time.
I remember the confidence I got when everyone started telling me I looked like Avril, I would waken 3 hours before I went to school to straighten my hair and finally people were noticing my confidence and I had friends even a boyfriend.
To this day I have copied her trends because it has made me happy, growing up in a small town in the middle of nowhere in ireland I can relate to Avril and I also hated school lol, I'm 31 and still suffering to this day from what was done to me in school. Her music spoke to me and songs like 'nobodys fool' and 'anything but ordinary' and 'freak out' gave me the confidence to be who I am today. I feel that if Avril never existed I wouldn't be here today 💔 at 9 and 10 years old I felt suicidal over bullying and being excluded.
I have my hair blonde now like hers and had been wearing extensions for 20 years, I always felt ugly without them but since she has cut her hair I feel a little more confident to take mine out even though I don't like short hair on Avril lol she's still beautiful and I still found my confidence.
I must also add that my mom and sister in law took me to see Avril in Belfast Northern Ireland in 2004 and i loved it! I havent seen her live since as she doesnt come to ireland naymore but im seeing her in London 10th May and i cant wait. She is literally my idol. Thank you for anyone who took the time to read this ❤

It gave me lots of confidence too so I totally know what you mean. I think if ever met Avril and had the courage to speak to her I would tell her about it.

I'm sure without her you would be different today. It's amazing how one person whom we have never met can change us. We will meet her someday 😃 I wish she would do more meet and greets soon since covid basically isn't a thing anymore. You should definitely tell her or write it down and hand it to her to read if she doesn't have time.

I was at a birthday party when I was 10 years old in 2002. I was a very sheltered kid and had no radio or anything and I only knew classical music and oldies from my parents. The girl who's birthday it was ... was playing avril. I swear my jaw hit the floor. There was something about her voice. The vibe. My life was changed. I BEGGED my parents for the CD. Finally they let me get it. Literally OBSESSED with Avril after that. Just how much she talked about being yourself and not changing for anyone, how she was anti Britney spoke to me at the time because the popular girls were all into the hyper sexualized pop stars and I wasn't, and just her alt style... I'd never seen a role model that spoke to me so much and I understood who I wanted to be, I saw myself in her ... and I mean I was just as obsessed with UMS and TBDT was my very favorite era which I'll write about in the other thread soon.

During 2012, I heard WTH on the radio and was really into it, and then I checked out the music video, and saw so much personality in her, and fell in love. I checked out the rest of her music from there and related to most of her songs, binged watch her live performances, and search up so many AL facts. I was convinced she was long lost twin

Nobody's home chorus rhymes "home" with "home". Wonder why rap is a bad idea for Avril?

What a journey it's been. Millennial here, Avril played in a show in my city I've attended with my parents when I was just a kid (I've had just ended my elementary school), it was 2002, even before the try to shut me up tour. She gave me an impression, but me being a kid + no internet made me forget about her until UMS, when I've started seeing her on MTV and becoming a young fan. I still remember as it was yesterday me watching the My happy ending video on tv and finding one interview on a magazine. That was when I felt in love.
The blast was with TBDT though: started attending online forums, went to my first concert on my own, bought my first albums and so on.
It was a three steps process I'd say.

First of all, I watched a video about "The Bowsette song" in youtube. It sounded familiar to me so I started to investigate until I found start was like Sk8er Boi. After that, I watched the videoclip. I found it cool specially when I am from Spain and even I have a good written English level, is usually hard for me to understand songs or TV series. However, I understood almost perfectly the lyrics. Later I listened Girlfriend and What the hell and they were easy to understand for me. But I can't call me a fan since I have just discovered her recently.
About acting, I didn't like the Girlfriend clip since the girlfriend is bullied but I admit her acting was amazing in videoclips. I found Sk8ter Boi impressive. I see her acting is also amazing in old lives but I thing she looks tired in current lives. I'd like to more about best songs/videoclips and whatever but I am discovering her now.
