Yea I know. I didn't expect otherwise - maybe I shouldn't have written the post.
Vevo isn't able in my country, so I only use Youtube. Anyway, for me vevo certification is not about a symbol or a trophy. It's about the fact that a song/video crossed 100 m views. In my mind that's both a acknowledgement of the song and the artist. 100 m is something special. I see a point in this, but if I'm the only one I won't bother you guys in this thread anymore.

I agree with fcpunk. 100M isn't that big of a deal anymore, since most popular artist gets that amount in a week/month. But it is nice to see that Avril still can get 100M+ views after being MIA so long. And that her "old" stuff still being played/watched

100 million used to mean something but now every artist gets those kinds of views and usually only because people use a bot to make it replay over and over. It doesn't actually mean 100 million separate people watched it, more like maybe 10 million people set up a bot for it to play 10 times in a row or whatever. What does it mean anymore if everyone does it like this? And that lots of videos have this many views? It's nothing super special anymore, especially if they aren't legit views. Now people just care about breaking the record for most views in 24 hours. I find it funny that Taylor Swift had it with Bad Blood because of all the celebrities she featured in it, then Adele comes along and all she has to do is sing and she broke the record. She didn't even try. ETA: Also at this point, unless Avril is in the headlines for some reason, or when she finally releases new music, no one is going to care about watching her old videos. I don't know exactly what the point is of trying to get her videos from a decade ago to 100 million views. When she finally releases a new video, sure, we should try to get it certified.

Not all the artists get those kinds of views nowadays. A lot of artists (thousands or more different artists) are stuck below 1M. Some other artist are between 1M-5M. Some artists are in 5M. Hundreds and hundreds of great artists don't reach to 10M in one video even in 10 years.

Britney, Taylor, Miley, Adele, Ariana, Gaga... the artists with big fanbases like that can usually reach 100 million pretty easily. Obviously some little indie band isn't going to achieve that because they don't have as big a fanbase.

Yeah, most mainstream artists' videos get millions of views very quickly so you're right it doesn't seem much of a big deal now, mainly because almost every artist has videos with hundreds of millions of views so it's not the same as around the time when Avril had the first video to get 100M.
If Avril had good promotion for GYWL I'm sure it would have gotten over 50 million by now and would have sold reasonably well. Views on the old videos won't go significantly up in views until a while and though it's great to see she's still getting views etc there's no point worrying about it, when she releases new music is when her popularity may become important, if this fanbase is even more active around then I'm sure she'd easily do well both streaming and charts wise.

For each artist that reach 50M, a million of artists don't reach 50M.

So to become VEVO certified a video has to get a certain amount of views? Yes. 100.000.000 views and that music video gets VEVO Certified. Avril has 10 certified videos, making her the 10th most certified artist on youtube/vevo

And yes, I agree. 100M views for popular aritsts nowadays isn't a big deal at all + getting a VEVO certificate isn't a big deal anymore, as well. Btw, Ed is close to 200M views of a lyrics video in just 4 weeks time.

It all depends on the popularity of the artist. I think 100M views for an old video from the pre-VEVO era is big feature, especially for Avril. Of course Taylor, Ed, Rihanna, Katy Perry and the Chainsmokers nowadays have different and much higher standards.
Lead singles of big artists that didn't pass 100M views yet:
