There's currently a really good deal for a GTX 970 ($175), sooooo tempting... Nooooooooooooo! Actually that IS a great deal. And the 970 will be a fine card for another 2-3 years, unless you want to play everything @ 4k and 200fps. It only has 4 GB 3.5GB of VRAM, which WILL make a difference in VR or at higher reslutions than 1080p. But if you're not planning on getting a headset or new monitor anytime soon, then that's a non-issue frankly.

I heard that my FX 6300 is a significant bottleneck for the RX 480 and similar powered cards, so I decided that I should upgrade my CPU instead of getting a VR/new monitor. Anyways, it seems that RX 480s are almost never in stock and I'm getting pretty impatient. My 580 is really starting to show its age... and 1.5gb of VRAM is very limiting. Very little info for AIB cards as well. If a RX 480 4gb model or GTX 1060 below $250 doesn't go in stock by the end of this week, I guess I'll just get a GTX 970 and sell it again a year later for a RX 490 maybe?

Damn. As soon as I had enough money for a GTX 1060 they are no longer in stock. A bunch of 1060s were in stock on Thursday but none were in stock on Friday when I finally had money for one. I'm not letting my impatience get the best of me, however!

It seems to be a smidgen faster in most games (except for a few isolated cases, e.g. ROTTR), has more memory, more proverbial bang for one's proverbial buck. All of these cards might be somewhat bottlenecked by your CPU, but if you plan on doing something about that then it doesn't really matter, does it?

My friend is willing to buy my old GTX 580 for $50, so that expands my options to the RX 480 8GB and the cheapest GTX 1060s. I might go back and get the RX 480 because at this point I'm just going to buy whichever card goes back in stock first. I've got to make a choice by the 1st of August as Newegg currently has a $25 off code that expires on that date.

So why do you need an adapter? It only has 1 DVI and my 2 monitors are old/crappy enough to only have DVI/VGA 1 monitor will use up the only DVI port.

Speaking of video interfaces, the options have started to get a bit confusing. DVI supports up to 2560x1600 @ 60Hz, whereas HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.2 support anything up to 3840×2160 (4K) @ 60Hz, right? But what about higher refresh rates? I use a DVI cable on my 1080p 144Hz monitor and it works fine, but what if I bought a 1440p 144Hz monitor, or an ultrawide 144Hz monitor? What would be the best cable to use?

My card is arriving on Thursday the 28th And I chose the lowest end shipping option. At least if I fail my driving test again I have a shiny new video card waiting for me.

3DMark scores:Old New History My score doubles for each upgrade. Look at that poor, poor 7770 score... SteamVR:Game Performance:Overwatch (Epic) - 80 FPS Fallout 4 (High) - 65 FPS GTA V (Very High) - 60 FPS Elite: Dangerous (Highest) - 90 FPS Star CItizen (Very High) - 50 FPS CS:GO (Very High) - 140 FPS All at 1080p. Highest temperature I've seen was 75C in Star Citizen, a lot cooler than my old GTX 580 which would hit 98C. Usually floats around the high 60s in games and idles at around 40. Unfortunately my CPU is bottlenecking me resulting in lower minimum framerates... definitely considering upgrading to an Intel processor or waiting for Zen later down the road.

Congrats! Now you should do something about that dreadful cable management. Btw, what's that SATA device at the bottom of your case? An adapter of some sort?

That's my SSD. As for my cable management, there really isn't much to do as my case has no cable management options or features to speak of. Looking into getting a new case instead so I can start from a blank slate.
