https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/516ig9/cpu_mobo_in_store_only_frys_monday_deal_intel/ That's a great deal. You'll need new memory, but you're still looking at a nice upgrade for <$200.

As for Win10, I think it sucks. A lot of the problems with 10 can be said about every MS OS - some avoidable, some not - but there are things unique to 10 that I abhor. For starters I want to be able to opt out of certain updates if I so wish. Rescheduling them doesn't count, and come 2020 I'm going to be thoroughly annoyed if MS are forcing me to ditch Windows 7 but haven't added a 'disable automatic updates' option in 10 (I'll probably ditch 7 sooner than that because more and more games are going to use DX12 and beyond, but the point stands). Given their "Windows 10 will be continually updated" business plan, I'm unlikely to get what I want. As for the telemetry thing, I know that can be tweaked, but that bullshit should not be there in the first place.
Given the choice of 10 and Linux though, and given what I usually do with my computer, I'd reluctantly go with 10. Linux has its place, but Linux gaming is an interesting experiment at best. Unless you only play the handful of games that have native Linux support, or happen to work properly with wine, it's just not a viable gaming platform. Believe me, if it WAS, then I'd switch to it in a heartbeat.

I regret upgrading to the latest Windows 10 version Something tells me I'm going to be spending more time in my Linux partition. Why is that? I personally like Windows 10. Have you done any of the tweaks to disable unwanted features and telemetry? It's quite trivial but the Anniversary update changed my: - Desktop Background
- Default Browser
- Search Engine
- Put back stock apps from Microsoft that I removed on my task bar.
I like Windows 10 to an extent, but they're doing a lot of shady stuff, including the non removal of certain apps now. It's very much Microsoft owns your PC now, not you.
I have disabled telemetry with Spybot anti beacon, but the end user shouldn't have to do all of this if they want privacy. Why must everyone be watched?

^ I got way too used to always checking security settings... a bit sad that you always have to check. Every Windows update and you should check your settings when it's been a bigger one. They changed my settings not just once... -.- But I do have to say that Win10 runs a lot more stable on my laptop than Win8.1 did. I've talked to people who had different expierences and also people with the same. My biggest problem before was that Win8.1 didn't do too good with drivers (e.g. my graphic card driver) it just constantly broke down. And my Z710 came with 8.1

You did download and install the proper drivers from Nvidia's website, didn't you? That being said, 8/8.1 was a pretty ugly OS that I hated with a passion. For all its faults, I much prefer the way Win10 looks.

I controlled every damn driver and no, nothing helped. God damn pain in the ass.

In other news, I'm quite skeptical about the capabilities of the upcoming PS4 Neo, aka PS4K, aka PS4.5. The PS4 needs a hardware upgrade just to run most games at 1080p and 60fps, let alone 4K at something resembling a playable framerate. It's probably going to be little more than a 4K Blu-Ray player, with gaming performance equivalent to a mid-range PC. A pair of GTX 1080s in SLI isn't enough to run current-gen games @4k, so how on Earth is a games console going to do it? #gloriouspcmasterrace Update:- www.techradar.com/news/gaming/ps4-pro-is-sony-s-4k-hdr-answer-to-microsoft-s-project-scorpio-1328036-It's called the PS4 Pro -Curiously, it's not a 4K blu ray player, despite Sony being all about 4K tech right now -They're still blowing a lot of hot air about "4K gaming", without revealing the actual specs Again, current-gen games require tremendous GPU power to be playable @ 3840x2160. There's probably going to be an in-game option where you can choose 1080p + better graphics and 60fps, or 4K with worse graphics and 30fps. The whole thing is pretty cool for console gamers I guess, but eh... I want details.

Ok so there are some laptops lying around in the house that I can use as my school laptop. I'm having a difficult time choosing which one however. Which one should I choose?
Dell Inspiron 17R with i7-2670QM, 8GB ram, and HD 3000 (the most powerful but its huge and has a HDD) Dell XPS 11 with i5-4210Y, 4GB ram, and HD 4200 (small and touchscreen with SSD but shitty capacitive keyboard) Acer Aspire S3 with i5-3317U, 4GB ram, and HD 4000 (ultrabook with SSD)

Unfortunately that's not possible as how the Dell is built requires me to disassemble the entire laptop to replace the hard drive. I can't use the XPS as it turns out my brother uses it, so I decided to use the Acer instead. I formatted it and installed Windows 10 and it's actually pretty fast (turning on takes less than 10 seconds).

According to PC Gamer, a Zotac GTX 980 Ti is the most effective GPU melee weapon as it weighs 5 pounds. I would prefer to use an IBM Model M however if I was caught in a close quarters combat situation with only a computer.

I'm currently saving some money, hopefully I'll have enough for a major upgrade next summer. This list is pretty meaningless because it's based on current hardware and pricing, but to give you an idea of what I'll be going for:- PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchantCPU: Intel Core i5-6600K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor (£213.34 @ Aria PC) CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler (£29.99 @ Amazon UK) Motherboard: Asus Z170-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard (£123.95 @ CCL Computers) Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory (£67.91 @ More Computers) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ACX 3.0 Video Card (£399.99 @ Amazon UK) Monitor: Asus MG278Q 27.0" 144Hz Monitor (£409.99 @ CCL Computers) Total: £1245.17 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when availableGenerated by PCPartPicker 2016-09-21 09:27 BST+0100My PSU is perfectly adequate for this build. My case isn't the prettiest thing ever but it gets the job done. Boot drive & storage drives will stay. I want to migrate to 1440p land, and I want a monitor that doesn't have that silly "1337 g4mer" aesthetic. The MG278Q is perfect for me. Why not 4K? Because 4K gaming is going to be a niche interest for quite a while. Not to mention I'd be sacrificing 144Hz, until a brand new video interface comes out that can support 4K @ 144Hz. My eyes would have a hard time adjusting to 60Hz after using 144Hz monitors. [Note: I'm talking about TRUE 4K, not the upscaled 4K thing that Sony is doing with the PS4 Pro] I haven't exactly done extensive research on current Intel motherboards, so that's subject to change. Depending on exactly how much I can spend, I might add a big ass SSD to replace my WD Black as my dedicated games drive.

Fairly inexpensive for what it is and has all the features of that chipset (overclocking, faster than 2166MHz ram) and it looks sweet. No need for super expensive "gaming" boards. As you are using a Z170 board, might as well get faster ram as the price difference isn't much as long as its below 3000MHz. If you want a good monitor, you might want to consider getting an AMD Vega/Navi card (RX 490/490x or RX Fury 2) and a Freesync monitor as Freesync monitors are a lot cheaper than their G-Sync counterparts. I'm with you for 4K. I'm not switching over until there is a card that can run games 4K at 60fps on High settings for less than $300. Right now even the $1200 Titan XP struggles to get 4K 60fps on some games.
