For AL, L.A most probably urged her to write more critically/publicly appealing songs. Even after the release of HTNGU, she was self-reportedly completing one of the self-written tracks. We can't disagree with LA for not hearing a lead single on Meghan's album when all we've heard is the newly penned first single.

MHE was bitter and relatable without being preachy or too specific. The hooks were simple and memorable and the pop/rock sound was extremely relevant at the time.
As for the Grammy noms, it's an interesting point, I don't think such information was released at the time of what had been submitted to be nominated. The LG travesty is ridiculous in retrospect, because (as mentioned in the stern interview) where the eff is Norah Jones now?! I wonder if that situation discouraged avril/her team to submit songs to be considered. Her cultural influence in the past deserves more.

Realistically, if you live in a smaller community and are gay, there's a chance that perhaps your alternative style might not be appealing to other guys who are around at the moment. That's an unfortunate reality of being in a minority, but the most important thing is to assure yourself that you aren't stifling who you really are, you need to think about your own personal development above any kind of relationship. It sounds major corny but you can't expect to find love until you have really established who you are to yourself. Reach your own personal acme before wanting to please someone else!

According to Avril's Wikipedia page someone tried to sue her for plagerism when she releasehd the single "Girlfriend" and "Dr Luke" helped her secure an out of court settlement so presumably they are good friends... Again, not defending him or blaming him for anything, but he was being sued as well so an out of court settlement was beneficial for everyone involved.

She might be at risk of being summoned as a character witness already, as it stands. And I'm not saying he did, didn't, or anything in between but if avril herself had no such experience with Luke, she has no business speaking out. Note that no one who worked extensively with him in the past has directly commented on this case.

I think it's funny how Avril went to Britney's show considering their history. Ten years ago she wouldn't have touched that with a ten foot pole. I'm happy though that she is going to other artist's shows now like Taylor and Britney. Maybe it will make her see how badly she really needs to step up her own shows. She doesn't have to have extravagant productions like they do but their set lists are good, the staging is good, they put actual effort into the setup of the show. Avril's last tour was just abysmal and even aside from the Lyme thing, there was just clearly so little effort or thought put behind any of it and it was a rather pathetic offering for an artist of her caliber. Easily her worst and most disappointing, least creative tour she has ever done. I hope that seeing other artist's tours will open her eyes and make her realize she can't just keep doing all singles and doing nothing new or interesting onstage. She needs to step it up big time. This. if we can all silence the (too) many fans with problems with the dancers, "pop" music, pink etc, TBDTour was her most well-thought out and executed tour, and she said on numerous occasions that it had been inspired after seeing Nelly Furtado's (quite amazing) Loose tour. Let's hope portions of history repeat themselves!

Not to be consistently cynical, but if, by chance, they both wanted to guaranty column inches for their appearance at a party for which neither of them had any promotional purpose of attending- their showing up together would do it for sure. That may be the beginning and the end of the reasoning,

I disagree. The era might have run the risk of peaking too soon. ums had saw success when it was released due to the existing fans and saw somewhat consistent sales what with the success of its second single. dtm was a nice bridge from Losing Grip to MHE and in the long run strengthened her "girl empowerment" angle.

Security's job is to protect from any incoming harm. They're not detectives who try to find out what people might have planned. Avril is still alive- they did their job. And to whomever posted that GaGa video- keep it classy. We're talking about avril here, not bashing other artist. Irrelevent.

Her brother has pretty much been in that role since avril started out- he was her guardian when she moved to New York City and he officially joined her tour security for the Bonez tour.

Fun fact- the KCA performance of DTM was the first full-band live performance of the song.

It was enlightening at the beginning of the UMS era to see her play more though; it had always only been Naked, Things, Mobile, Tomorrow and Knocking on th TTSMU tour, and then suddenly she was on the mall tour, playing guitar on all of the new songs (audibly!) as well as on Complicted and Sk8er Boi, and then showing proficiency during the promo cycle in Unwanted, FTP, Together, Who Knows, Etc etc. Sometime between TBDTour and the BST, it became an onstage prop. As others have said, little to no improvement and even less interest.

^ I think it's maybe safe to not take that show too seriously!
This topic is very meaty to discuss, isn't there a Lyme thread somewhere where it could relevantly continue?

The second Sessions set was never definitely explained, but we all assumed at the time that they wanted one where she sounded a bit healthier (there were a few rasps and coughs in the original). The first sessions was the first time she ever performed any of those songs, it was recorded just before the Mall Tour, so she hadn't been performing them regularly, so maybe they wanted a more confident sounding set as well. Who knows! so, was the first one aired ? Yeah, it was posted on the Sessions site until the new one aired and then that replaced it. The second set is superior performance-wise, but the first is so nostalgic for anyone who was a fan in the era- it was the first time we ever heard He Wasn't, My Happy Ending and Nobody's Home in full (the album tracks hadn't even been released/leaked yet)
