LOL, the local newspaper wrote a tiny article for tomorrow's edition (which is already digitally available) about Avril creating a Tik Tok account and skating with Tony Hawk while playing "Sk8er Boi". Wtf, how is this newsworthy?! Especially considering how little Avril is known / relevant around here. I don't remember reading any newspaper articles when she released HAW, for instance.

Oh god, her lip sync is so bad!
It's a nice, fun clip, though. Pretty cool to have Tony Hawk skate at her house to this song. And it's nice to see her having fun.

I actually always thought her hair looked kind of lank during UMS. But I agree, her hair lately has seemed like "too much hair" somehow, but I feel it's been like that since AL era. I've always really loved the wavy hair she had during "Alice" and in the beginning of GL era, with those black streaks and the side parting. In the end, though, she's the one who has to feel comfortable with it, obviously. I do wish she'd change it up some more, though; she's been having pretty much the exact same hair style since AL era, as far as I remember. I kinda miss those times when she'd sport a new hair style for each era. I also just noticed that those plaid pants look exactly like a pair of my favourite pajama pants I owned a couple years ago.

I just saw this on Twitter. Could this be a hint at the new merch design?

It's kinda funny to me how y'all immediately thought that Avril was reading the song's lyrics, whereas I thought that she was reading through director's instructions or something like that. The former seems more likely, though. But I don't think it's a shame or a sign of laziness that she may not know the lyrics to the song 100%. It's not her song, it's probably been quite a while since she recorded her part, and even so, sometimes it's good to refresh your memory, even if you actually already know the stuff. I don't mind her clothes, I haven't really been paying much attention to them; but I did see a certain lack of passion / energy every now and then. However, those are just some low quality paprazzi videos and, as others have already pointed out, we don't know the song, so it's hard to judge. I'm a little excited about "Grow" getting a music video, but I also fear that this might mean we won't get any new solo music in summer at all because Avril will probably want to focus on the collab first. I'd say this was frustrating, but honestly, since Avril's "la la la liar" post, my hype's pretty much completely died anyway. Like, I'll take her new music when it comes, but until then I'll just continue listening to other artists.

My dad slipped away tonight. Thank you to everyone for their prayers and their comforting words. You’ve all helped me so much. I'm so incredibly sorry to hear this. There seem to be no words that do justice to how horrible this is. Sending you and your family much love and strength.

Oh god, those latest videos they posted...
Part of me thinks they're kinda cute, and I love seeing them so happy. But another part of me feels like I'm invading their privacy, even though they obviously chose to post these videos online, hence want people to see it.
I'm not really annoyed by them, though, but I think that's mainly because I don't have Instagram, so I don't have to put up with *sees Avril posted a story, gets excited, then finds out it's just another cutesy, kissy-kissy video*.

Last night, I dreamed that Avril released the entire tracklist of AL7; one instagram post per song, each accompanied with new photos, like she did with "Cannonball" and "Love Sux" (and "Liar"?). There were about 14 new songs / posts. But a lot of us (including me) were still dissatisfied because, while finally having some decent news, it seemed as though she / her team had given up on teasing us. Instead, it was just like "so, you're all annoyed by me taking my time? Well then, here you go, have the entire tracklist and leave me alone." Then, however, we realized that she'd also finally announced the release date of the album - June 22nd 2021. But somehow, it still wasn't really enough to make us happy and forgive her for leaving us in the dark for so long (again).
Man, I must really be frustrated with her to be dreaming something like that and still stay frustrated.

I'm still totally here for an album with no ballads! I'm just not a fan of ballads; I find most of them boring, too slow, and sometimes cheesy, and that doesn't just include Avril's. I also think it's needed after an album full of ballads and mid-tempo songs.
I do think an album full of uptempo and mid-tempo songs could totally work. Back when I'd still listen to TBDT more regularly, I'd sometimes skip the ballads, and the album still worked totally fine imo. Green Day's "Dookie" doesn't really have ballads either, yet it's one of their best records and a highly acclaimed pop-punk classic, that doesn't sound too samey at all imo. It can certainly be done, and very well so. The question is just, can Avril pull this off? Seeing as her music hasn't really blown me away that much in a very long time, I don't expect anything ground-breaking from her; in fact, I except at least three or four of her usual fillers and indeed some same-sounding songs (I kinda hate saying that, but Avril's just sort of set the bar rather low with her past three albums). But I still have some hope in Feldy's impact on the album.

I've been staying mostly off of BA for the past couple of weeks because, to be honest, my feelings towards Avril have become quite negative, what with the never-ending silence. It was almost kind of funny when it still seemed like she / her team were doing this very slow reveal of the tracklist every fortnight or so; like they were deliberately clowning us. But now, I'm honestly fed up. It's been four weeks since her #2 post, and now, after a month of silence, we get this? It doesn't even say "#3", so, what is this even supposed to be? Is this even anything to do with AL7? I mean, you never know with Avril, do you...
It's really disappointing that she killed her own hype once again. I seriously thought it might be different this time around, seeing as how excited she seemed in the studio, how happy she was to have found Feldy, and how quickly the album was done (or at least seemed to be). And I certainly wouldn't have minded waiting after that. I didn't expect her to drop the album the moment she told us that it was finished. But I do mind hearing her "soon"s over and over again, just to be, once again, left in the dark eventually. And then she pops up every other week to post some new pictures and a song title alert. And that's it. This is ridiculous! I don't even know what the hell is going on anymore. Is the album actually finished, as in, ready to be sold? Is the album delayed because she wants to create AL8 first / wants to do a back-to-back release? Or is there another reason for the delay? Or has this been the plan from the start (I hope not because... wtf?).
At this point, I really wish she'd just stayed completely silent the whole time until the single announcement. That's what all other artists that I follow do. They might let you know when they're in the studio, give you a bit of an update every now and then, but there's none of the "my album is done, new music coming soon" then months of silence crap.
I'm sorry for being all negative here, but right now, my patience has worn off. I will, of course, not stop being a fan because of this. I don't dislike Avril now either, I'm just frustrated with her and her team. I will also surely get excited again once we got the first single, and if I like the music, I will definitely buy her album. In short, I will continue supporting her. But I can't help but already be frustrated with this era before it's even properly started. That's happened before, and it unfortunately ended up with me not being able to enjoy the music as much because it always reminded me of these bitter disappointments we had to endure pre-release. I don't want this to happen yet again. But tbh, it already seems to be happening. Her newest post hasn't gotten me excited at all, it just got me super frustrated and had me ending up writing this essay.
I hope Avril and her team finally get their shit together and either tell us what's going on (it doesn't even have to be detailed, for my liking; I'd just like a quick message like "album's delayed, but it's coming" or "plans are still going as intended" or at the very least have our patience properly acknowledged) or start making some proper promotion (only if new music is actually about to be released, of course).
To end on a more positive note, I like the new photos a lot. I generally love how she's going with a lot of really vibrant colours during this era. I think that's exactly what we needed after HAW being rather sad and very black and white. She also seems to be very happy. And she brought back those studded bracelets which I've always loved.

I quite like the new website design. It gives me huge 2000s punk / pop-punk vibes.
Her merch store has been saying "coming soon" and "enter using password" for months now; that's nothing new, unfortunately. It also still has uses the old cross logo from HAW era.

I don't really care if a song is barely half a minute or 10 minutes long, as long as it works. There are super short songs out there that are amazing, yet other short songs feel like the writers simply couldn't think of anything more to add. There are super long songs out there that never bore me for a second, yet other long songs seem to drag on and on and on. So, it really depends on the execution.
Generally, though, I do have to say that seeing a song length of 4 or 5 minutes tends to get me more excited than something that's only 2 or 3 minutes long. 4- and 5-minute songs seem to be the ones that are more likely to be theatrical and have interesting structures, at least that's what it seems like to me. And I love that. I also love when a song takes its time to create a proper build-up before finally reaching the chorus, rather than rushing to the chorus within the first 30 seconds. Or even better, a song that simply doesn't have a chorus. It's a nice variation of creating some highlights. I mean, look at "Bohemian Rhapsody" for example. The song doesn't really have a chorus, yet it goes from one exciting moment / highlight to the next; it's never boring.
I don't expect Avril to do something like that, though. Her music is way to generic for that. I do expect a lot of those typical 2- or 3-minute, fast punk songs, and an overall LP length of not much more than 30 minutes tbh. It's just what most punk / pop-punk songs and albums seem to be. But as I said, if it's done well, I don't think I'll mind.

The thing about the short songs is nothing new, it's just a trend that comes and goes. I listen to some old music, like 40-50-60s, and most of them are short, between 2 and 3 minutes. So it has been done before and it doesn't have anything to do with punk or Feldmann's style. I don't really understand the purpose of it back then.... but i do understand why it happens now: which is the repeat botton LOL and yes, the short atenttion span, but I think many peope do the same thing as me, which is replaying the song over and over again untill you get bored of it. Apparently, the discs that singles were distributed on back then simply couldn't really hold much more than 3 minutes of audio per side. There's a bit more about it here: www.vox.com/2014/8/18/6003271/why-are-songs-3-minutes-long

Those harmonies from one of her most recent Instagram stories (is it Instagram? I don't have Insta, I just always see those stories on avril_snapchat's Twitter; thank goodness they repost everything!) are nice, but they really don't tell us much. I still wish we'd get more snippets like that from the studio, rather than a mic pic or Avril and her friends just fooling around.
I also really enjoyed the story in which she was actually talking to us and showing us her freshly cut hair. I really, really like that new hair cut! It suits her super well and it's finally something different while still keeping the typical super long, sleek Avril hair.
