I really wish this performance of IWY had been live, like the rest of the show, but oh well. HOWEVER, this was the best performance of IWY I have ever seen! There's only one other performance of IWY I have ever loved this much, and that was the one I witnessed live back in 2011, which was obviously an absolutely magical experience. I'm just not such a big fan of IWY, I honestly think it's kina boring. But man, this performance almost made me cry once the bridge kicked in, it was just too beautiful! I also think they performed it in its original key? Either way, Avril's voice is so incredible, I actually can't believe it. I'm lost for words and just fangirling right now, haha. I also really, really enjoyed Yungblud's contribution. His and Avril's voices work so well together, and he's got an incredible stage presence and passion, even when he's just sitting there with his guitar, playing/singing a ballad. I hope he and Avril will collaborate on some music. I'd love a feat with him! Who knows, maybe we'll even get one; Avril did mention there would be "some fun collabs" on AL7.

"Pink Crust" yeah, lol! I remember the most popular German teen magazine "Bravo" printing a small piece about that very rumour, except they "failed" to mention that it was a rumour, and instead sold it as fact. They used to do that kind of stuff all the time. I think I even still got a special High School Musical edition that had several pages of info about the third movie (before it was released), including track lists and even full lyrics. Turns out none of this was even remotely true. But this is off topic, lol...
The way I remember it, those WTH.tv videos / vlogs from celebrities were something rather unique back then? But maybe it was just me, living in a bubble where no other celebrity but Avril mattered, haha. Either way, I really loved them, too, they felt quite personal and special. Which, btw, also reminds me of that virtual autograph session! Anyone remember that? I still wish she'd do that again, because I wasn't lucky enough to get an autograph that one time. (Gosh, that iPad looks so outdated, and it's sooo slow! lol)
As for the leaked tracks, I remember that too! I'd listen to them several times a day before the album release. Then, when I finally got the record, I realized that I'd not only been listening to a low quality version of the leaked songs, but a slightly pitched version, too!

Woo hoo, it's GL's 10th anniversary today!!! (Not in the U.S. and some other countries, but here in Germany and other countries of the EU it was released exactly 10 years ago.)
Gosh, I can't believe it's been 10 years, an entire decade! I still remember holding the CD in my hands for the first time so well. It was a Friday, and I was supposed to be in school, but I remember not feeling too well, so I debated with myself whether I should go to school or stay home. But since I knew GL was about to arrive with the post, I decided to stay home. I'd pre-ordered the deluxe edition (or rather, my mum pre-ordered it for me - I was too young back then to legally be able to order stuff online), and it arrived some time before noon. I still remember opening the little package and then removing this protective foil from the CD case, and then just staring at it, taking in its beauty, then flipping through the booklet and breathing in this weird "new" smell, haha. That's the moment I remember best of receiving the CD. I still think GL probably has the prettiest album cover and overall design, the standard edition as well as the deluxe one. I still love just looking at it, even though I rarely do it nowadays. And every time I pick up the album, this fond memory of first holding it comes back to my mind. This is so sappy, haha!
The entire GL era is also the era I am most fond of. I became a fan of Avril during TBDT era, so GL was the first album of hers I got to look forward to. I was also deep in a fangirl phase then; half my life revolved around Avril, lol. I think it was also around this time that I first picked up a guitar and started getting piano lessons, so I could play along to Avril's songs. Then, in September of the same year, one of my biggest dreams came true and I got see Avril live. And I think it was also that same year that Abbey Dawn finally got its own website and started shipping worldwide, meaning I finally got to purchase some AD stuff. Really, it was mostly during GL era that my Avril collection went from 3 albums to a whole bunch of things from her perfumes to Abbey Dawn to songbooks, to calendars etc.
There's really barely any negativity I remember from GL era (once it finally started, that is). Sure, the Abbey Dawn promotion was rather over the top, there were interviews where Avril seemed to care way more about AD than about music. But she always seemed very passionate, her performances were great, and the aesthetics were amazing.
Of course, years later, I started noticing GL's musical flaws, the rather weak production and songwriting, but despite that / due to all the things mentioned above, this album will probably always have a special place in my heart.

2 albums?? seems too good to be true LOL. But it would be great if she makes a Taylor out of nowhere, althought that could mean getting less singles and music videos, SO i'm not sure about it. I guess if the albums are greta i wouldn't mind that. About the harmonies, well, i've seen great singers that actually suck at harmonies. It has to do more with ear rather than voice, so it's not about her "singing them", it has more to do with hearing them, or the supposed notes you have to produce. It's also producing sounds over an already recorded track, SO, it's not easy for everyone. I could totally understand why she struggles with them. I mean, harmonies is literally a whole different department, as well as chest voice, mix, or head vocie, belting, runs, or vocal growling, LIKE, if you don't practice it, you'll never be good at it. Her songs never had fancy harmonies anyways, so... i'm thiking she's not the best at them. Let's pray for the album title to be good and not embarasing 🙏 Whaaaa....? GL's harmonies are superior! Especially those in "Everybody Hurts", they're just (imo).

Ugh those new photos!
Also, this may be a bit off topic, but last night, I finally gave MGK's "Tickets to My Downfall" (standard edition) a listen, and I'm really glad I did because... I don't understand the negative criticism he got from rock/punk fans? It's a solid record with great production and some fine songwriting imo. The songs are definitely pop-punk, but not the, what I would call "goofy" kind, like some of blink-182's stuff from the 2000s; nor do they have this super fast, typical skater pop-punk rhythm that's way too fast to headbang along to, instead you can only nod really fast (not that this kind of rhythm or a "goofy" sound are bad, they're just not my taste). So, it's actually just the pop-punk that I personally quite enjoy. There's also a bit of variety on the LP; especially the last song "Play This When I'm Gone" is quite a stand-out imo, very emotional, it nearly brought me to tears (which I hadn't expected). Really, if AL7 sounds anything similar to "Tickets to My Downfall", I'm most likely going to be very happy.

Wow... only listened to this one participant, and yet I think I've already found my winner for Eurovision 2021. This is insane!

I think it's really sad when people get mocked for what makes them happy. Just let people enjoy whatever they want! As long as it doesn't hurt anyone, what's it matter to anyone else?
That being said, I too had a phase during AL5 era when I was embarrassed to call myself an Avril fan. If someone asked me what kind of music / artists I like, I'd usually say something like "[x band], [y band], [x artist], and Avril Lavigne, but I prefer her older stuff". But my family knows that I'm an Avril fan and have been for ages, and back in school, my friends knew too. Except for maybe one or two friends, who liked Avril themselves, no one ever really cared, though, as I mentioned before.
However, during my teens (around GL and AL era) I've also had a couple of experiences of people my age being like "who is this Eivril Lathingy?", which baffles me to this day. They were around 10 years old when "Girlfriend" was released, when Avril was extremely popular all over the world, including here in Germany. She was in all the teen magazines. How could they not at least have heard her name before? But I guess they just forgot about her, like so many people. Avril's popularity in Germany has declined a lot since post-TBDT, by the time AL5 was released no one really knew / remembered her anymore. I think she got back in the limelight for a bit when she revealed that she'd contracted Lyme and when HAW (the single) was released. But I'm sure by now most people have already forgotten about her again.
I'd love for AL7 to finally make her more relevant again, and in a positive way. Not because I care about charts or tour dates (plenty of artists and bands much lesser known than Avril manage to have a decent tour with plenty of performances in several US and EU countries - though this obviously sucks for everyone living on all the other continents). I just want her to be taken at least somewhat seriously as an artist. I'm honestly not sure if this will ever happen though, because I often get the feeling that Avril doesn't really take her job seriously herself anymore (what with her attitude towards learning her own new songs to perform live, for example). But we'll see. So far, AL7 seems to be shaping up to be a good era.

I do mention to my mum and sister every now and then that there's "this one fan forum". I definitely mentioned to my sister that it's an Avril forum, too. Might've done the same to my mum (she certainly knows it's not some "weird" forum, though, lol). But that's it. No one else in my life knows about the existence of this forum, or that I'm a part of it. I just tend to not talk about it, or Avril in general for that matter, because I know no one cares, since I'm the only Avril fan in my current life. But I don't mind. I'm very introverted anyway and haven't really talked to anyone "offline" besides my parents and siblings for the past few years.

I never liked watching paparazzi videos. They always feel so invasive. Like, give those celebrities room to breathe, respect their privacy, and keep a certain distance (and not just because of the pandemic). Celebrities have a right to that, too, like every human being. In this video in particular, the way the paparazzi talk to Mod also really makes me cringe. They talk to him as though they're his friends, and they ask him about Avril and say things like "take care of her, she's a good one, she's a keeper", as if they know her personally, too, but as if she's not even present. Like, she's right there! Why not attempt to ask her about the album process? Idk, maybe I'm being especially sensitive about this, but it just really makes me feel uncomfortable. That being said, I still feel like the relationship between Avril and Mod is kinda ... strange? Obviously, we don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but whenever they're in front of the camera, Mod seems to talk about Avril as though he's her biggest fan. He really seems to idolize her. But it just feels weird to me to be dating someone that you idolize. But like I said, that's just the vibe I get from the tiny bit of their public life that I see in the media. On a more relaxed note, I really like Avril's style in these photos / videos. It suits her so well.

1. GL 2. TBDT 3. UMS 4. LG 5. HAW 6. AL In case anyone wants to read a bit of an essay... The first four album covers are really all on the same level for me. All of them are great and represent the respective album perfectly. They may not be without their flaws, but I don't care. LG looks a bit weirdly edited, but I feel like it's such an iconic 2000s edit, and I love the handwriting. UMS also feels really early/mid-2000s to me, but again, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I also love the black-white-red colour scheme, the font, and the burnt-pages edit. TBDT has probably my favourite pose of Avril's on an album cover. The way she's got that strand of hair wrapped around her finger, and the way she's pulling at it - I've always loved it for some reason. I also enjoy the heavy amount of jewelry. The logo is a bit over the top, though. And GL has amazing fonts and colours, great editing on the edges, and I love the piano and leaves on it, but I've always disliked Avril's pose, it looks really uncomfortable. I also have this thing with naked feet, I just don't like them at all, lol. Yet I'd say this is my favourite album cover because the positives just outweight the negatives for me. And because it's the first album by Avril I bought as a fan. I still remember receiving the CD and just staring at the cover like "Wow, I can finally hold it in my own hands!" haha. HAW and AL are both just messy. AL's negatives (the lighting, the close-up shot, the makeup, the hair, the almost illegible font) just bother me more than HAW's mistakes. I think it's kinda crazy how we went from four superb, 10/10 (or close) album covers to something that's like a 2/10 at best.

I never knew TBDT was supposed to be the lead single! (But it actually makes perfect sense, since it shares the title with the album...) I agree that GF was a much better choice as the lead. It's a fun, playful song with just the right amount of brattiness to sort of prepare people for the rest of the album, but not scare them away (at least not entirely - I know some fans back then were very put off by this new image/attitude of Avril's at first). TBDT, however, went a bit too far with the brattiness in the bridge. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't have been satisfied with that at all, and then the rest of the era might have flopped. Which kind of makes me realize just how different things could have played out if TBDT had indeed been the first single.
