Hi, this is a thread to talk all things related with the elections of the United States of 2016.
The United States presidential election of 2016, scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2016, will be the 58th quadrennial U.S. presidential election. Voters will select "presidential electors" who in turn will elect a new president and vice president through the Electoral College.

Sorry. I didn't mean to ignore this post. I did see it and meant to come back to it. I guess I just forgot. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio.
Since this is off-topic, I'll keep my response short. If you wish to discuss it further, send me a PM.
Yeah, I don't want to go off topic either. Trump speaks like the average person I meet when I go out for a drink with his various prejudices against different social groups but it's not really helpful to just point the finger at this group or that group of people. I see what you mean about career politicians like Hilary Clinton that tip toe around the real issues that affect people so they can stay within the safety of their parties that seek to please everyone and offend no one and don't really affect anyone in terms of leadership. I think Trump is right to take a defensive stance towards Muslims because it simply isn't a religion of peace and tolerance no matter how you try to dress it up.

I think the Daleks (Doctor Who, UK) are in-topic. I want to show my support with the Daleks cause in this elections. Go Daleks! Daleks have a lot of style.

Election was yesterday. Looks like Trump will be leading our country for the next 4 years. Americans/Non-Americans of Bandaids, I wonder what your opinion is on this matter.

between H.Clinton and Trump, bwtween evil and more evil, Hillary is less evil. It's a sad day, I feel sorry for the world. Hate won.Fear won.Racism won.Sexism won.Homophobia won.Self interest won.

I just wish I could wake up from this nightmare. I can't believe Trump was elected.... He's not my president.

Well, I am not american and don't want to express my opinion. The only thing I want to say is for me living near the frontline of the war conflict with russia it means, that most probably there will be escalation of the war. You might guess how I feel. I live with this almost 3 years, and now I am waiting for even worse scenario.

Frankly I wasn't super fond of either of them, but like many people I thought Hillary was the lesser of 2 evils, so to speak, and voted for her. Originally I was going to vote third party but I realized that's essentially a wasted vote. Hillary and Trump were the 2 that were most likely to be elected and if it had to be one of them, I'd have rather had it be her. I was absolutely shocked when I woke up this morning to check Yahoo News and see what the result was. I thought for sure she was going to win. I didn't even expect it to be as close as it was, let alone that Trump was going to win. I was seriously thinking/hoping it was a false article, joke, misinformation, or something.
But as terrible news as it is, there's no real point in getting upset over it IMO because the result is the result. Short of Trump getting impeached or assassinated this is our president. This is who the people voted. I didn't and I don't know any or many who voted for him. But somebody somewhere did vote for him and this is who America has chosen as our president. We have to respect the vote, no matter how much we may disagree with it. And as much as I dislike him and have so little faith in him, I'm willing to also be open minded and give him a fair chance and see if he will truly do anything. I don't have a lot of faith he will or that he will make things better, but like I said, this is who our next president will be, there's nothing we can do about it, and so we just have to have faith maybe he will have good advisors and that he actually will do something to make a positive change.

Actually its a different feeling for most of Turkish people to see Trump getting selected, because Trump's political choices/acts/image and behaviours are so similar with Turkey's president Erdogan. Most of the Americans were saying that they were going to choose the lesser evil and they chose Trump. This is so similar whats happening in Turkey's politics, we go vote for a lesser evil candidate or party but Erdogan wins at the end As a non-Erdogan supporter i feel like America selected its Erdogan for next 4 years

I'm absolutely horrified that Donald Trump is the President-Elect and I truly am ashamed to be an American today. Hillary Clinton was one of the, if not the most, qualified candidates for President ever. From First Lady, to New York Senator to Secretary of State, she had well over 30 years of political experience. She's devoted her life to helping women and children and I truly believe she was in this because she wanted progressive change to help America. The fact that someone as racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic etc. as Donald can become President speaks volumes for the US. He's called Mexican's rapists, women slobs and pigs, has bragged about sexually assaulting women (with 13 women stepping up saying they were assaulted by him) among so much else. On top of this, he is one of the most unqualified candidates ever never having held public office. The fact that he has the power to appoint the next Supreme Court Justice (and possibly 3 more during his term) leaves me badly shaken. He has the power to get abortion and the gay marriage ruling overturned. His running mate, Mike Pence, is also a huge bigot. Pence supports taking funding away from HIV/AIDS organizations to go towards conversion therapy for the LGBT community which is a barbaric idea. Donald would repeal ObamaCare leaving 20 million without healthcare and he believes global warming is a myth created by the Chinese when it's a real threat. All minorities are in deep trouble now and we'll be lucky if he doesn't mess up everything Barack Obama has fixed up. The fact that a reality TV star was elected as President just proves to the rest of the world how much of a joke the country is. I mean, his campaign staff took his Twitter privileges away for this past week. If he can't be trusted with Twitter, what makes people think he can be trusted with nuclear codes? The United States really failed as a nation today.
Also, just to note: Hillary won the popular vote. The people chose her. Donald only won the electoral college which is why he will be President. It's sadly ironic that the system he was complaining was rigged chose him while the people of the United States chose Hillary. Now instead of real progression with Hillary we're taking a step back 100 years with Donald.

I'm horrified and for what this results will mean for the people I know in the states who r Muslims, gay etc. people are afraid and have the right to be. I only pray trump won't throw all the good stuff like Obama care, gay marriage etc into the trash. Because it surely doesn't feel comfortable that the Vice President of trump think you can convert gay people to straight by giving them conversion therapy (electrocuts is one way....). Knowing these people are around him and that trump himself has put down women, LGTBQ people, Muslims, immigrants and even disabled people many times shows his views.

Now everyone is talking about California seceding from the union. We have a GDP rivaling that of entire countries, after all. #Calexit Would the checks and balances keep Trump from making radical changes?
