Is it a stereotype if it's accurate? Back in the late 90s/early 2000s skaters DID wear baggy clothes, unless they were Tony Hawk. It's an era-appropriate line if nothing else.

Yeah, they don't seem to have taken into account that it was released, what 14 years ago? Also the video they link for Elissa was from a Toy Machine video from the mid 90's ('96 I think) and she wears baggy clothes...

I can't tell if this is supposed to be serious or if they're just taking the piss out of her to try to be funny. Either way, I agree with the above what they say is rather unfounded. Back in the early 2000s most skaters did dress in baggy clothes. And it's just a song. Not every lyric has to be taken literally. She just needed to fill in the line with something. "She had a problem with his skater clothes" doesn't exactly sound poetic.

Only bc she says that the Sk8er Boi in the song wears baggy clothes means she thinks that every skater does? Man, hating on her is as accepted as hating on Nickelback, it seems to me. Reading the whole thing, it becomes nastier with each video mentioned. BTW, two or three people are actually scating in the video. Just saying.

I really liked Sk8er Boi's music video lol. I thought it was the perfect kind of edge for the look and attitude Avril was going for at the time; and it reminded me of the kind of crowd she was friendly with growing up. Minus the whole wreaking havoc on Main Street and breaking car windshields thing. They had to make the video entertaining, you know lol.
I'm failing to see the point in comparing Avril's skateboarding to a professionals. Avril did it for fun, as a hobby. Not as a career or something to pursue. I haven't seen the video in years (gasp!) did she even skate in it lol?
Back in middle school and high school, let's just say the mid-2000's, all the 'skaters' I knew wore baggy pants, chunky Vans or Fallens and graphic T's. Every single one. Then skinny jeans became a huge thing and eventually the baggy pants were, for the most part, another trend that has passed.
I'm thinking the writer was too young to remember the late 90's and early 2000's lol.

I agree it's stupid whenever people try to slam her for the skateboarding thing. She admitted herself how terrible she was at it and never said she was a pro, in fact she even expressed embarrassment whenever people asked her to sign skateboards and stuff because she knew she wasn't a pro at it but some people (fans) would try to make it seem like she was some icon in the skating world and would ask her to sign their boards and stuff. I remember some company asked her to sign one and she said how stupid she thought that was.

Not defending the article in any way, but I genuinely think that anyone who isn't a fan will have the media forced image of Avril being a skater grrrl which is where that comes from. If all you've heard is "She's a skater punk" and then you see a clip of her rolling (pretty awkwardly) about in Complicated/htngu video, the logical thing is to believe she's been faking it... It's like if the media kept portraying someone as a guitarist and then you saw a clip of them awkwardly fingering an E chord. Again, I'm not agreeing with the article in any way...
