I think that, at one point or another in our lives, we've all tried to figure out Avril's lyrics without looking them up at a lyrics page or without checking the album booklets. Which ones did you think you had figured out well, but ended up being very different from what you had thought? I, being a non-native English speaker, have misheard and mis-sung Avril lyrics a lot, especially when I was younger and my English wasn't that good. I remember writing down the entire lyrics of "The Best Damn Thing" (my first Avril song ever) with things such as Now I am here say hey hey hey, and stuff that I had made up entirely and that just happened to fit the song's rythm (or, at least, it did for the 9-year-old lil' Nimega). I used to sing " At New York, can I go" at the beginning of "One Of Those Girls", meaning that the song was upbeat because she was happy she was going to NY (hey, gimme a break, I was nine and my English was terrible! xD), and, through the song, I used to sing It's been a while, you're in the Nile, meaning that the person Avril was singing to had fallen to the Egyptian River. It made sense, because I was pretty obsessed with Ancient Egypt at the time, lol. And I also remember singing I'm starting to chip, I'm Losing my Grip at the chorus of Losing Grip. I don't know what the heck did I mean with the word "chip", I probably didn't know and just sang that to fill the gap. So, what are your misheard Avril lyrics?

It's funny because an old member here thyarchery had the same theory as you that in OOTG she was saying "You're in the Nile" and he thought she was talking about killing some guy in the Nile River I'm a native English speaker and Avril is usually pretty clear in her pronunciation so I never had much of a problem understanding her lyrics. There was I think one song where I misheard a lyric but I can't even remember what it was now.

Avril has a easy pronunciation. So it's not to many songs to miss hear. My only one, In Nobody's Home she sings "Don't know where she belongs, where she belongs" First time i heard it it became "Don't know where she stilongs, where she stilongs" Which is wool underwear.. and thanks to that i still sing it today, as a true Avril fan

I remember as a child when UMS first came out I only had the Avril Live Acoustic EP from Target and that was how I listened to the UMS songs before buying the actual album. So all the songs were done live and I remember when listening to Nobody's Home I thought she was saying "She's lushed inside" because that's what it sounded like. I remember now what song it was that I misheard. When I first heard Darlin I thought she was saying "Tomorrow's lightest day" but apparently she's saying "Tomorrow's not yesterday." It really doesn't sound like it though. It's kind of the "Blank Space" effect where everyone thought Taylor was saying "Starbucks lovers" because it was just her enunciation that wasn't right. Or Bad Moon Rising - "there's a bathroom on the right"

I've gotten kinda used to Avril's pronounciation by now, but I still can't figure out My World properly. And what was the other .... Oh, yeah, in Stop Standing There instead of "How much I'm in it" I always heard "How much I mean it", meaning that Avril wanted to really be serious with that guy. (You know, just like in, "Stop it! I MEAN it!") I had also difficulties to hear the "lost stare" in Losing Grip, I thought she said something with "air". And I could probably give you more examples but let me summarize them: My biggest problem are lines in which she has not her "natural" pronounciation but has to adapt it to the rhythm of the melody (like My World or Things I'll Never Say^^).

In Dont Tell Me, when she sings "Girl the one who, throws it all away" I thought it was "Girl the one who, that rubs it all away"

Oh, what a cool topic. I already have said - I perceive english pronunciation hard. this fact bugs me a lot. so, I definitely had mishearings. One of the latest one, guess from where it is, kinda quest : "I think it's tough to give a stuff."

I dont really misheard lyrics, but sometimes I would sing non-sense words instead of the real lyrics, because I was just learning english when I became a fan. So I didnt realy know all the words and sometimes I would just sing it the way I heard it, which makes so sense at all. Even though I know 99% of her lyrics now, it still happens that I sing this fantasy-langauge because I'm used to I never really figured out how to sing ABO or My World with the actual lyrics

Losing Grip - "Grinnin with a lost stare" I thought it was "Grinnin with the lost air" Wait it's not "the lost air"? I've always heard it as that.

I just found out today that it is "every night" in Things I'll Never Say. I still hear "day" which would be the logical rhyme for say and away in the lines before. Thanks to this thread I know better now! xD
