That she had to fight for herself without doctors support it is pain full. I know, I've been there. I also thought I had Lyme disease. Until we found out what it was. I know several persons with Lyme disease and all you can do is to live as normal as possible. And this quote, I think speaks for everyone that have experienced/experience the same thing as Avril, and it means so much to me!! "I never had depression, but being sick and so terrified that in itself is depressing."

^I agree. Maybe if doctors hadn't insisted on her being "crazy" she'd be fully recovered by now. Don't misunderstand me, I do respect doctors and most of the doctors I've known in my life are extraordinary, but it seems that Avril didn't have as much luck as I. Anyways, she finally found someone willing to make her the tests and now she's feeling better

I think it's pretty ridiculous that given the level of doctors she probably had access to that none of them could diagnose her properly. It's a good thing Avril knew it was something more than what they thought it was. Sometimes doctors really don't know what they are talking about and we have to listen to our own bodies.

I agree with that. But also supports the doctors because Lyme Disease isn't well known to be easily detected. I've been in the same situation. I was sent home with antidepressant and called lazy. No matter if you're rich or not the doctors will remain the same with this sort of cases. But i admire Avril for fighting for her self!

This could just be a regional thing, but I'm surprised at how many comments I'm seeing everywhere with people saying they don't know about this disease. I grew up and live in the Northeast, where the disease is most prominent, so maybe that's why I've always known about it, but I've been aware of this disease since I was a kid. We were always told as kids if we went in the woods to wear long pants and check for ticks, and if you own a dog you should apply a tick medicine to its fur every month to prevent ticks. It sort of amazes me that doctors could not properly diagnose it or don't seem to know about it.

What I meant was that the doctors know little about the cure (s) how different it is from person to person. How antibiotics works for some. How falsnegative bloodtests comes back. It's a big debate between doctors, scientists and medical/spirtual treatments and metods. Just look up the clinic in Germany that had a specific treatment, people from all over Europe went there. The debate is so intense around what actually works.

I understand all that and that there is no known cure for it and that the disease affects everyone differently but there is plainly no excuse for them still not being able to diagnose her properly. She could have gotten better sooner and possibly prevented those harmful times if she had known earlier and gotten antibiotic treatments within the first month. If it's not caught early, it could have effects that last for the rest of that person's life. Her friend Yolanda I believe was not diagnosed early either and she has even more serious issues than Avril does/did. All because these so-called doctors didn't diagnose them properly, they just told Avril she was "crazy" and said she was dehydrated and exhausted from touring. That to me is just unforgivable and inexcusable. It caused her 5 months of unnecessary pain.

It not okay to be called layzy or crazy, being told that you are overreacting. I KNOW. But it doesn't give us as the patients, especially others that doesn't are in it pesonaly an excuse to be mad. You can be disappointed and feel pretty bad but it won't take you anywhere. Therefore i react to this. I got a disease and medical scientists in Canada is in the lead. I have a friend that got lyme and then again Canada have the biggest money supported for studies of different tick caused diseases. Avril obviously figured it out by herself and then she managed to get help. And the doctors most probably tock 100s of bloodsamples from her. Tests of all kinds. But IF it comes back negative or false positive they would most likely stop taking tests. Avril is in the position that she could use experimental treatment or just live as normally as she can. And she is making it work. I'm just saying lyme disease is well known about, but there it stops.

I've never met a doctor that I liked. I find that doctors just want to get you through the door and back out. The more people they see in a year the bigger the bonus. Will thats how it works in Canada. Most doctors that I have been too they just want to give you some type of pill and send you out the door. Tell you that you should be fine in one to two weeks if not come back.

I'm in Britain, and I must admit that I'd never heard of Lyme Disease before it was suggested in that speculation thread. Having done a bit of reading on it, it's very much a thing here, especially if you spend time in woodland or heathland areas.

I have also never heard of it. I knew that you can get sick from a bite but I didnt know exactly what would happen and what illness are possible. I hope Avril will support the awareness of this disease, she is still famous and could make a change.

I've heard Lyme disease mentioned before, but didn't know any of the specifics. All I knew was that is was a disease and not just a made up word :)
