Having an anxiety disorder kind of makes everything scary, but I've had a few experiences that others might be able to relate to. Car crashes are quite scary. Thankfully I've only been involved in one. There were five of us in the car, I was in the middle of the back seat, I wasn't wearing a seat belt because there wasn't one. I knew this was a dumb idea before we even went anywhere, but you know how it is when you're 17 and you don't want to be "that guy". We were approaching a line of traffic that had come to a standstill, due to some road maintenance up ahead. My friend was maybe driving a little too fast or maybe he braked too late, I honestly can't remember. I wasn't really concentrating on his driving until it was too late. Whatever his mistake was, we slammed into the back of the car in front at about 40 mph (65 kph). Believe me, 40 mph is FAST when you hit a stationary object. There was a split second window that prompted me to brace myself for whatever was about to happen, for all the good it did. I was thrown into the front of the car like a rag doll, my face landing an inch away from the dashboard. Had we been moving any faster I swear I would have been through the windscreen. Thankfully no one was hurt, though both cars were totalled and everyone was shook up. I used to believe in ghosts when I was younger (yeah yeah, I know). This belief was compounded when I had my first 'ghostly' experience. Call this the power of suggestion or whatever, but believing in ghosts doesn't necessarily mean you want to 'see' one. It was many years ago, and I was taking the rubbish out at night, about 10PM. Something prompted me to look up from what I was doing, and look down the path that led to the street. I saw what I can only describe a shapeless, shadowy figure standing at the bottom of the path, as if it had been watching what I was doing. It was too dark to clearly make out what I was seeing, but it wasn't something I saw out of the corner of my eye. It was right there in front of me. It said nothing, made no sound at all. After a moment it slowly... floated backwards, and disappeared into the night. There was no sound of footsteps. I never saw it again. I no longer believe it was anything supernatural, and most likely it was just my imagination playing tricks on me, or maybe it was something completely benign that can be explained rationally (insects, perhaps ). Still, the whole experience really weirded me out at the time. Watching someone die from a terminal illness is very scary, not to mention horribly upsetting. Over a few months I watched someone go from being a respected, cherished person to being confined to a bed, unable to communicate or look after themselves. I remember not being able to look them in the eye very often. It was horrible to watch and I badly wanted their pain to be over. Perhaps this was the scariest part of it all.

I got chills reading your ghost story! I've also been in a car accident. A couple years ago I was driving home from my job at the mall and going straight down the street. On the right side there's an island where the drivers over there either can make a left or right turn. I had a green light and was driving through and this lady from over there cut out in front of me to make a left turn. I don't think I was going all that fast to begin with and was able to brake to maybe 20 or so miles an hour but I still ended up hitting her on the side of her car, which caused her car to spin and land somewhere on the side of the intersection. The front of my car got damaged and I rolled through the intersection and pulled over, called my brother, police, etc. By some miracle I wasn't hurt at all (probably because I wasn't really going fast enough) but the other lady was an old lady I think and got hurt pretty bad and had to be taken by ambulance. Our car was eventually declared totaled by insurance so we ended up getting another, better car which worked out well in the end. It was never determined who was at fault though because it was basically her word against mine and it still bothers me to this day. But I know it had to have been her fault because she claims she was turning on a yellow light which is impossible if I had a green light. So it was most likely red when she actually turned or maybe it was yellow when she started moving but it changed so quickly that she was still in the middle of the road. Stupid move to do if you're making a left. A right, you can get away with, but if you're gonna make a left you better make sure you either have enough time or move your ass quick. Other scary things: I've had surgery 4 times. It's always a bit scary going under anesthesia. You can literally hear your own heart beating and it sounds magnified by like 100x. You also kind of feel like you're about to die but luckily a few moments later you're out anyway. I recently had a test done for acid reflux called a motility study where they had to stick a tube down my throat and measure how I swallowed water. I never gagged so much in my entire life, it hurt my chest, and I eventually threw up from it and without even thinking I ripped that damn thing right out of my body. I have an intense fear of vomit and vomiting so I was kind of panicking when I started gagging a lot. I can't say I have had any paranormal experiences yet. Personally I do believe in ghosts but I hope to never encounter one! I get scared embarrassingly easily. Mmmmm I'm sure I have more but can't think of any. I did have a sort of... Idk what you'd call it... Out of body or spiritual or paranormal experience I guess... But it wasn't scary. Just incredibly weird, I would even say insane, and no one would believe me if I told you. I suppose one more I can add is that once my dad and I were in the airport and I went through security and for some reason after they pulled me aside and said I had set off some kind of alarm and that I needed to get a patdown. It wasn't just a random patdown, like every 10th person gets one or anything, for some reason I had set off this alarm (I didn't have anything metal on me), so I had to receive a patdown (luckily they had female TSAs do it and not men) and they were actually pretty nice about it. But it was still scary obviously, being suspected of being a terrorist or whatever, and the patdown was a really humiliating experience, even though I know I didn't do anything wrong and they were quite nice about the whole thing. My friend at work also had to get a patdown and he agrees with me it's really embarrassing. It's like you almost feel violated or something (note this is not the same as a strip search, you get to keep your clothes on for this). If I think of any more I'll post them.

It was a relatively minor operation though, so I guess it depends on the dosage? Yeah tbh I wouldn't want someone pushing tubes down my throat either, at least when I'm conscious. Sounds awful. I also had a patdown at an airport once. My belt buckle set off the alarm. This was pre-September 11 though, so I wasn't particularly worried about them thinking I'm a terrorist or something. The most embarrassing part was trying to hold up my oversized baggy jeans with no belt in a busy airport (hey they were cool back then). I had the same problem on the way home because I forgot to buy a new one. Derp.

Life is pretty scary, I can never learn from mistakes... Well, I have got lost away from my mom several times before when I was little, in shopping malls, in travelling. She might not know it because I could usually and eventually find her. But sure there's a time failed so my name was in broadcast Edit: 40 kph is increadible fast for crashing into anything 😣 Im glad you made it :s. But I'm sure it becomes a helpful alarm everytime you drive. I've never seen ghost but I believe it's a left spirit from pass away. In Chinese theory, they do categorise (forgot how to spell ) ghost from bad to good, or even dont do anything just curious. But tbh, for those ppl who usually have bad luck or ecen endager, maybe their house are haunted, thats how the Chinese theory explaine. Although Ive never seen them physically, I dreamed my friend after she just passed away. The dream os positive

As a matter of fact, telling that story made me look up 40 mph crash tests on youtube. Honestly, how I was wasn't killed or seriously injured that day is a fucking miracle. Don't drive fast, always anticipate things, ALWAYS wear a seat belt. If there's no room in the car, be "that guy". Better than being dead.

Perhaps we could turn this thread into not just scary stuff, but paranormal or spiritual stuff too? I have a couple stories like that. I decided to share the one I mentioned before because I googled it and it turns out others have experienced sort of the same thing, so I wanted to see if anyone here also might have experienced something similar. *Warning: You may not believe me but I swear it's true! So when I was really really little, I don't remember how old I was, but I was definitely too young to be able to go down the stairs by myself. I was standing at the top of my staircase, no one was around at all, and I was about to go down the stairs. And all of a sudden I swear to you my feet lifted off the ground and I floated slowly all the way to the bottom, touched the ground, and I was like "Huh that was cool" and shrugged and walked away. No one was around at all to witness this which makes it even more eery and makes me believe it truly happened. I told my mom about it at some point and she was like "Maybe you dreamed it" and it's possible that I did only dream it but I swear it happened. My mom says maybe it was my guardian angel, that is what it seriously felt like, as though an angel had picked me up and gotten me to the bottom safely. If I had tried walking down those stairs I would have probably fell and cracked my head open. I know some don't believe in angels but I do and I really think it was my guardian angel protecting me. Ok you can ship me off to the insane asylum now. My other story is similar to what keinware mentioned. After my grandfather died and we went to the funeral, I was sleeping later that night and I saw a bright white flash in my sleep and somehow, even while being half asleep, I knew it was a sign from my grandfather that he had made it into heaven (because in the Catholic religion we believe souls enter purgatory first which is like the midpoint between heaven and hell). And it was like I just knew from that white flash that it was a sign from my grandfather that he had entered heaven. It was like a gut feeling, I guess, where sometimes your body just knows something. Oh I've got another odd story regarding dreams. So once when I was in college, I used to wear a retainer at night. The bottom portion was small and was always falling out of my mouth or sometimes I think in my sleep my tongue would push it around and I'd wake up almost choking on it. One night that happened and I had no idea where the retainer went so I thought maybe I had swallowed it and I started to panic, even calling my mom at like 3 in the morning to ask her if she thought I should go to the ER. She said maybe if I had swallowed it that it would pass in my stool, so I just went back to bed and decided to wait until morning. Then I had this dream that I had woken up and found the retainer in my bed, so I woke up for real, looked in my bed, and there it was! It was so weird. It was almost like my body had predicted the future or something.

Oh I have a couple other strange "spiritual" stories. In the Catholic religion we say a prayer to Saint Anthony when we're looking for missing items or people because he is the patron saint of missing things. The last few times I've tried this, it's worked! Once I couldn't find my keys, another time I couldn't find my checkbook, etc. and so I said "Saint Anthony, help me find my keys/checkbook/whatever" and then somehow it was like I knew where to look and I'd find it. In the case of my checkbook, it was particularly weird because I switched banks so I have 2 different checkbooks, the first time I said "Saint Anthony, help me find my checkbook," I found my old one, so I said "Saint Anthony, help me find my new checkbook" and then I found it. I'm just saying, whether you believe in it or not, give it a whirl 'cause it really works!

Okay, this is now also a thread for any paranormal, spiritual and generally weird experiences.
Obligatory Important Red Text Staff Note: This is not a place for religious debate, and the thread will be closed if it turns into one.

I have a few near death experiences.
I decided to touch a partially plugged in but exposed power plug for a laptop power adapter. Got a nice shock right there.
I somehow fell my face on a sharp corner of a desk but fortunately my glasses prevented me from gouging my eyes out.
Nearly fell down the stairs... multiple times.
Okay now a really stupid one: for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to go down a kiddy tube slide even though I'm nearly 6 feet tall. There was some tight turn near the end that was really cramped. It felt like my neck was going to snap. I thought, "Well, looks like I'm going to get a Darwin Award" but I managed to slip through unscathed.

I've definitely had the feeling of being watched after the death of each of my grand parents, a bit like bogo I don't know if they were just between this world and the next and hanging around or what. Also when I was a furnaceman working in metal I had some creepy experiences feeling someone brush against my back and seeing an apparition when I was working in the cellar. It was a really old factory/building but it could quite easily of been my mind playing tricks on me. I was under a lot of stress back then.
Scariest thing I experienced was wallpaper stripping my grandmother's old house just after she died by myself in a house with no gas or electric and there were terrible creaks and noises in the night with only candle light to see anything. I got so scared I packed up and came home. I saw that particular grand parent on her death bed and I felt really sorry for her because she was drugged up so much that I felt like it wasn't a very peaceful or naturel death and I could well imagine her holding a grievance about going out like that. Very spooky.

Someone had a heart attack my work a while back and looking into his eyes when he was dead was pretty harrowing, obviously we were doing first aid and trying to save the guy but there were several times we had obviously lost him, we were doing CPR for about 15minutes before the ambulance got there. He eventually died a week later in hospital and the ambulance people came to thank us and said that without us he wouldn't even have made it to the hospital. I'm a qualified first aider, but it's hella different doing CPR to a dummy than doing it to a person...
I've been in 3 car crashes, 2 were little dings, the 3rd was when my mates had been taking mushrooms and I was stoned too, we crashed head first into a wall at a junction on a country lane in the pitch black while the song "The End" by The Doors was playing on the stereo... the car was a write-off, we were all physically ok but mentally very freaked out...

When I was twelve years old I was walking home from visiting my mum at her work, and on the way back I was walking through a little wooded area to take a short-cut home. I realised I was being followed by a group of about five girls around four or five years older than me, and I could hear them talking about me. Eventually they got quite close behind me and started asking me questions, quite intrusive ones and I knew that I was in trouble. One of them tripped me up from behind so that I landed on the ground, and basically they all started attacking me as I was laying down. They were stomping and jumping on my head, kicking me in the stomach and ripping out clumps of my hair whilst screaming stuff at me, though I can't quite remember what they were saying. Long story short, I thought I was going to die. They showed no signs of letting up and I could hardly defend myself on the ground from a group of older and bigger girls. Thankfully, a couple started walking towards the area and saw what was happening. They started running towards us, shouting at the girls and the group ending up running away. Once I got home my dad phoned the police and I had to drive around town in the back of a police car while they looked for the people who had done it. It was terrifying, I was only twelve and quite shy anyway. It is without doubt the scariest thing that has happened to me not only because of the terror I was experiencing at the time, but it has also had some lasting effects, as I now have anxiety and feel hugely uncomfortable doing most things that involve being around people that I don't know, or don't know very well. There was another time when I was about fifteen or sixteen, I was sitting in my living room watching TV at about four in the morning when I decided to get ready to go to bed, so I started walking about downstairs to turn off all the lights when I got to the dining room with the back door to our garden in it. I noticed something moving in the garden, so I moved closer to the window and realised what I was looking at. Basically, there was a man standing in the middle of my garden, looking forward at me as though he had been making his way towards the door to my house. I sort of froze, and me and the man ended up just staring at each other for about 10 seconds before he took off and jumped the hedge back out into the street. Safe to say I was quite frightened of being home alone for a while after that. I also have a bit of a spooky experience, although I don't actually believe in ghosts or anything like that. When I was a kid I used to have an imaginary friend of sorts, I don't remember giving her a name but she was an elderly lady who would usually sit on the edge of my bed and talk to me whilst I played with my toys. I would sometimes see her in dreams too, but I was really young so I didn't really think much of it. Fast forward to about ten years later when I was in my mid-teens, my parents were talking and laughing about the imaginary friends I had when I was a kid, and I reminded them of the old woman I used to talk to as well. Then my dad told me something, and it was the first time that I had ever heard it - he told me that he was always spooked out when I told him that I was ''playing with the old woman in my bedroom'' because the previous owner of our house was an elderly man and his wife had died in my bedroom only a couple of months before my parents bought the house. I had no idea about this because I was so young at the time, so it freaked me out a little bit to hear that when I was older. I still find it a little spooky when we sometimes get letters addressed to her in the post haha, or if I suddenly start thinking about it at night when I'm laying in bed trying to sleep.

That's just terrible, who seriously goes up to a perfect stranger and just starts attacking them for no reason? I mean WTF! Second and third ones... so creepy.

I'm pretty sure the reason they done it was because they didn't like the way that I was dressed; unfortunately there are people out there shallow enough to care about insignificant things like that. As far as I am aware they were never arrested or anything. I found out their names a while later through a friend of a friend but didn't want to drag it all back up again so I never went back to the police. Looking back though that was probably quite an irresponsible decision haha.

Man I am really sorry to hear about the first incident. That is assault and I surely hope you were able to find the girls who did that and that they were arrested! That's just terrible, who seriously goes up to a perfect stranger and just starts attacking them for no reason? I mean WTF! Second and third ones... so creepy. There are always lots of "it depends" in situations like this, because the legal system strives to be a fair one. But I have no doubt that they would have been found guilty of something - there was evidence, there were witnesses. www.inbrief.co.uk/offences/assault-gbh-abh/Then again, the sort of shitty people who'd do something like that would probably come out of prison and do the same thing to someone else. Not to mention what they might do if they found out you implicated them. Regardless, I can understand why it's the sort of thing you want to put behind you.
