Taylor lost in all 3 of her Grammy categories last night. Not surprised. She was rumored to have a surprise performance of The Man, which I guess will be her next single, impacting radio tomorrow, but given the voting scandal, she decided to skip the ceremony altogether. Billie also broke her record for youngest artist to win AOTY.
I think even if Taylor had attended, she still would have lost all her categories. I think she deserved Song of the Year if it’s supposed to be based on songwriting and it would have been cool if she won since she wrote Lover alone, but I can understand why she didn’t win. And given the voting scandal, no one has taken the Grammys seriously for years and even more so now. So if she had won, it probably wouldn’t really mean anything anyway.

I quite like Taylor's new song. The second verse lyrics really hit me when I first heard them.
Did anyone watch Miss Americana? I think the documentary was really well done. It had a good balance of various subjects so that it wasn't just all focused on one thing. It gave really good insight as to why Taylor was so hurt by what happened to her in 2016 as well as why she decided to become more political. I got choked up when she was talking about how she had won her sexual assault case. I liked that Joe wasn't featured too much and that they didn't really talk much about her relationship. I think it came across as inspirational without pandering. I hope maybe it can get nominated for Best Documentary for some award show, like maybe the Golden Globes or Emmys (not sure if it would qualify since it was released to theaters).

Thanks for the synopsis Bogo. I’ve been so busy I haven’t been here much lately. We are watching it soon.

I will say in a semi-related thought that when Taylor was talking about certain things like her disappointment at reputation not getting nominated for the Grammys, building her whole life's worth on other people's approval, etc. that it made me think this is one aspect where I prefer Avril over Taylor, meaning that she never cared what people thought about her. She never built her self worth on other people's opinions of her, even from a really young age, which is not easy to do. She never made music for the sake of winning awards or getting people's approval or proving why she deserves to be there. If it got nominated for awards, cool, and if not, it didn't matter. People called Avril fat and said she looked pregnant around 2013, but she never let those comments get to her enough that she would starve herself (that we know of, anyway). She was never afraid of speaking up for what she believed in and sharing her views. She always did and still does (even if sometimes we'd prefer otherwise!) things in her own way, for herself, and not for anyone else. And that is something I've always admired about her. It's sad it took Taylor 25+ years to realize something Avril knew when she was 16. But of course everyone grows up differently and all that, so I'm not blaming Taylor in any way. Just that it was something that struck me while watching.

Thanks for the synopsis Bogo. I’ve been so busy I haven’t been here much lately. We are watching it soon. It is definitely a must-watch IMO for any fan! I knew lots about her from reading interviews and stuff, but I still learned new things about her.

Ive watched it yesterday and indeed it was a good docu! I think Taylor felt such pressure to be someone and later she realized that it’s not all about that! I felt sorry for her when she said she would starve herself.. she never was fat or chubby. I’m glad she feels better now about herself. Oh and it hit me she said after Rep not being nominated that she has to make a better record. Like, so many people found it an amazing record. Yeah I learned a lot about her! I respect her deeply tho!

I respect her deeply tho! I agree. I appreciate her attitude of wanting to work harder when she doesn’t win but I think she should just make music for herself and not worry about awards. It’s fine to be disappointed and I get feeling that way when she worked really hard on a record and it doesn’t get recognition, but to respond with “I’ll just make a better record” is like she’s seeking this desperate approval from one awards show that’s not been taken seriously for a while and recently came out as corrupt. Awards are rigged and have been for some time. Why any artist would desperately want to please them and be recognized by them is beyond me. It doesn’t actually mean anything if the voting is rigged. Reputation was a good album, no matter what. The fact she really thinks she needed to top it is sad. IMO Lover is not a better record than rep and even if it was, she still lost. No artist will ever truly feel happy chasing charts and awards. At some point it just becomes impossible. I hope she no longer cares about things like this and just focuses on making the music she wants.

I agree. It's nice to be recognized but awards aren't important. It shouldn't be an obsession especially at this point in her career. I can't help but wonder if this need has ever come to disturb her personal relationships. Made her feel like she wasn't doing enough. It's not a good way to live no matter how much of an overachiever she is. She can't win all the awards.
In my opinion, Rep is better than Lover. But even then I believe 1989 was her best album.

Same, I don’t think she will ever top 1989. And that’s ok, she doesn’t always have to top herself (which would be impossible after a point anyway). Though I can see how pressures from the media and industry have probably made her feel that way.
She’s already won 10 Grammys, including AOTY twice. She doesn’t have to prove anything at this point. She probably feels a need to overachieve to compensate for the lack of friends and acceptance she had in her teen years. I’m the same way, never had a lot of friends, but always excelled in school and work. I get it. But at this point she’s won more awards than most people ever will. Relax! Lol

Totally agree with both of you. And I also think 1989 was her best album to date. I think Rep is better then Lover but still both are good albums. She has achieved so much!

Hmm not really. There’s a resemblance, especially if she does the winged liner, red lips, etc. but you can easily tell it’s not her. I have seen other lookalikes that look a lot more like Taylor than this girl. And a lot of lookalikes these days only really look like the celeb in question if they do the same makeup and take pics from certain angles (ex: Samantha Bower, Paige Nemainn (Ariana lookalike))

For a few days now I‘ve been listening to The Man. I just like the song and really enjoy it. And I love the message of the song.
