whaaaaAat new album tonight For the first time pretty much ever I decide to check this site first thing in the morning instead of Instagram and this is what happens - I see your post and I'm like WHAAATTT and immediately head to IG to find out what happened lol I'M SO EXCITED!!! From the look of the artwork and the name and stuff, I feel like it's going to be a folksy/acoustic album. Will be such a nice change from the overproduced pop of her last few albums. I love her pop music, but certainly it will be nice to hear something more stripped down from her and less produced. 8 deluxe editions is a little overkill though. I get why she always releases a ton of different deluxe editions but it is unrealistic for most of her fans to purchase all of them. It makes it difficult when they each offer different artwork too (at least the songs are all the same). I really love most of the artwork so it was hard to only choose 1 version to get but I chose the "in the trees" edition. Was deciding between that or "betty's garden." At least with social media, you know someone will buy them all and upload pictures of all of them anyway, so no need to really buy them all if you can't afford it. Besides the money, I don't really have the room for 8 CDs that are basically all the same. I hope when she releases her 13th album she doesn't come out with 13 deluxe editions lol It's also kind of ridiculous that the physical albums will only be available for 1 week to purchase. She's really trying to get those sales numbers I guess with the 8 editions, surprise release, and only 1 week to order. I feel like we are still in the Lover era kind of and it's hard to grasp the concept of moving on to a new album/era already. A lot of fans complaining we never got/will get Cruel Summer as a single. I agree I would have liked to see CS as a single but I also think at this point closing Lover with The Man was probably a good move overall. Lover Fest is up in the air right now given the pandemic, no one knows how soon those shows can happen, if at all. Clearly she was inspired during the quarantine to write so why not just release it? It's really interesting to see the contrast between Lover and folklore - super bright rainbow colors now to black and white, folk, woodsy, Americana.

WOW! Wtf!? Lmao That's what can be called "Bigger Wow" by us instead of that proper meaning in the song xD Well, saying that I'm shocked now - means absolutely nothing! Taylor right now is like here's the surpise, guys! Just wait till midnight hehe P.S. Good morning, Bogo

Lol and I got this good news from you Bo! In the AL7 thread.
The tracklist is very interesting. A full album not even an EP. And the name Folklore. I'm so excited! When did I become such a Swiftie?? However, I think her ambition is ridiculously high. Everyone is gonna wanna hear this album already why does she always feel the need to inflate the sales. If I was a parent I'd be pissed. Plus a week? Not in this economy girl sorry. I respect her hustle and business smarts but she'll have to settle with my streaming numbers.

^ I agree. She is an incredibly smart businesswoman and knows her fans are going to buy everything she puts out, but I also feel she's getting kind of greedy and over the top with it. With every single release, there ALWAYS has to be new, overpriced merch to go along with it (and it's not even good looking merch either, that cardigan sweater looks ugly as fuck IMO). Every album has to have a gazillion deluxe editions. You can make the argument purchasing all this stuff is completely optional and no one should feel like they are any less of a fan if they can't/don't want to purchase everything she puts out. But it still seems like a big cash grab move to me, she was just criticizing Scooter Braun for putting out an old album of live performances in the middle of a pandemic, but she's doing something similar by releasing a bunch of overpriced merch and freaking EIGHT deluxe albums in the middle of a pandemic when many are struggling financially. Like I said, the good news is that someone will upload pictures of each edition so if you weren't able to get one or get all of them, you can at least see what they look like.
I also agree that I don't know why she feels like she has to purposely inflate sales either. I remember with 1989 she didn't allow it on streaming platforms for the first week or so so that everyone would be forced to buy the physical copy. The Target edition had 13 different sets of collectible Polaroids. Then Reputation had 2 different magazines (at least it was kept to only 2 and she negotiated for them to lower the price so more fans could afford it). Then Lover had 4 deluxe editions. Now folklore has 8 and they are only available for 1 week so that everyone feels like they have to rush out and buy them. They definitely have extras sitting in a warehouse that they'll bring back some time in the future as some sort of limited time offer. They tell everyone it's only available for one week to inflate the sales.

I became a fan during the RED era, but didn't start really following her that closely until reputation. Reputation was probably the first era I followed as it happened. Around the time of the rep tour was when I started deep diving and became a super fan I guess you could say lol

I only really listened to her back catalogue a few years ago I think. Obviously I knew the singles and I’d known Tim McGraw for years and years (found it by accident before I even knew who taylor was whilst searching for the actual Tim McGraw on YouTube lol). I wish I’d follow her as closely as I’ve followed Avril the whole way through cos I like her music just as much, if not more, and shes just generally more interesting to follow (Soz Avril)

Agree, I would have loved to have been there from the beginning and feel the satisfaction of watching her grow before our eyes and celebrate all her achievements right along with her. To experience a new album era as it's happening is an exciting, once-in-a-lifetime experience. You'll never be able to experience the feeling again of what it was like before the album existed, seeing all these new song titles and not knowing what they sound like or what they're about. Once you know, you know. You can never go back and experience that feeling of listening to it again for the first time.

Plus following Taylor must be like it was following Avril in the LG to TBDT eras, just constant success. Must be boring....

She's definitely grown as one of my favorite artists over the years. Her talent is undeniable. I knew of her through Love Story, Dear John, WANEGBT but once 1989 hit I became a fan. Then Rep came along and I became a stan. However, I still need to go back to her first 2 albums. But that's okay I like artists I can continue learning from after years of listening to them.
About Folklore, based on the title do you think it will be a more organic acoustic album. Maybe go back to her roots. Will it be dark or light? I just read some of the lyrics for Cardigan and it reminds me of Daylight. But the covers are like b&w.

Lover was so bright, happy, lovey-dovey, and a stark constrast to the darkness of reputation. But now we’ve been in quarantine for months, all her plans for Lover Fest have basically been canceled until further notice. The whole world is in a terrible state with the pandemic, people sick and dying, economic turmoil, BLM protests. Big election year. Her mom is still dealing with cancer as far as we know. It’s been a time of reflection and slowing down. I wouldn’t be surprised if the inspiration came from being stuck at home, probably in sweats, messy hair, and no makeup. The world is not in a bright happy rainbows and butterflies state right now. There’s a lot of anxiety and uncertainty even if the situation has improved overall. This more rootsy, Americana aesthetic kind of suits the times we are in.
