I'm still curious why Avril didnt want to release this song?! Katy Perry (I think) once hinted that Avril had personal reasons not to do it, but didnt want to go into details. I guess she didnt have that much input on the lyrics and maybe she wouldnt have been credited or something like that.
But it's truely a beautiful song and one of her strongest ballads.

To be accurate, I Will Be was released in some versions of TBDT. But I get your point, it would be nice to know why Avril didn't want to put the song on the regular version TBDT. Maybe she just felt that three ballads is enough.

Does anyone else think that Avril and Leona used the same instrumental of the song? Did the song's instrumental get re-recorded for Leona? Obviously Leona re-recorded vocals, but is the instrumental the same? They sound extremely similar so I've always assumed that they used the same instrumental. I'm curious because most cover songs will get completely re-recorded, not just the vocal.

So she put it out there, or maybe Dr. Luke did, and Leona picked it up. Doesn't need to be re-recorded if the instrumental is fine and in the same key as the vocals. There might be subtle differences between the two, but none that I can think of/know off the top of my head. In all the mashups I've heard of the two versions, they sound the exact same, except maybe the volume and quality since Avril's version wasn't super widely available where Leona's was a single released on the album and iTunes and is still offered. Many people, myself included, probably have it the "All You Will Never Know" fan EP of unreleased/demo/acoustic song or ripped from YouTube. In response to the OP: Yes, it is a fantastic song! I'll forget about it from time to time and then it will pop up on shuffle or randomly in my YouTube suggestions and I don't skip. I almost feel like it's better to forget about a song for a while and then rediscover it. Kind of keeps the magic alive.

Well, Avril did actually release the song as a bonus track on TBDT in 2007; before Leona released the song on her own album later that year. And even Leona didn't release it as a single until 2009.

Avril "I cant sleep" Leona "I cant live"
To me, Avril sings this song in more reality tho. I appriciate the skill Leona has with vocal but I just prefer the one really showcases the tone, emtion and intonation with simple notea more than I hear more vocal skills

I agree with Keinware. I prefer Avril's performance of the song over Leona's. It makes sense since Avril was the one who wrote it.
Really interested on why she decided not to really release it with TBDT

Great song! But talking about it not being on the album, I wish Won't Let You Go would be on it.

To me, it's one of her best ballads & one of the best from TBDT! I wish it was released as a single and not given to Leona Lewis.

Yeah, they should have released both Keep Holding On and Won't Let You Go as singles for Eragon.

I know she released it on some versions, but to anyone who wasn't a fan at the time, missed out on being able to buy that song, so it's not as widely known as one of her songs is what I meant. I became an actual fan in around 2008 when I happened to download an album of her's from a website I used to belong to and fell in love. Had loved the singles as a kid, but never bought or downloaded any albums. So like mid-late 2008 I became a fan and I found this song through the All You'll Never Know compilation. Then I remember reading about Leona's version then started hearing it on the radio, and like no one I knew had any idea it was originally an Avril song.

To me it's just like Daydream. One brilliant song that will never see the light. One of those small gems only available for hardcore Avril fans and part of the reward for bearing Hello Kitty and its likes.
