So a little backstory, I did not get into Avril until I was in my teens (TBDT era) but every time I heard Complicated on the radio (which was once in a blue moon) I was so entranced I always wanted to listen to this song over & over. Sadly, I was always late on the tape recorder  . Her voice. It's strong. Sounds different from current Avril, she was a teenager after all but it sounds good. Even if she didn't have much creative control it sounds like a girl who is excited about having a chance to be an artist. To be able to release music and be the star she wanted to be growing up. And she's Nobody's Fool, the song really shows she's not like the other girls that were popular around that time.
Too Much to Ask. It's the only song that I feel did not belong. It's boring. Just one of my least favorite songs of her entire career.
My favorite song of Avril's ever is Tomorrow. I realized that a little while ago, it's simple but Avril's voice gives it meaning. How much I love this song deserves another post. The rock songs, Losing Grip and Unwanted give this album an edgy feel. Really shows how much of a rock artist Avril could have been.
Overall, this album is a classic. It could be because it starts off with the singles/hits. It could be because it's her first album. Or because it is not like the others. (Although for some reason Complicated & IWY would be the only songs I would put next to music released today...pop music I mean..Paramore/pop punk is a different story..and ofc Complicated) IT'S COMPLICATED.

This compact disc, tagged Let Go came from the sky.
To understand why this album made the history, you need to time travel in 2002. At this era, POP Music looks like this: (all pictures are from 2002 in the same TV Show: MTV TRL)       So the rule is clear, " show me your belly button" And now Avril joins the game: Do you feel the difference ?!! Let Go is not only an album, it's an era, a state of mind, a conviction, a code breaker, a freedom !! Besides her image which was great, her music was a true alternative of what it was available at this period. In my personnal experience, I loved this album in 2 times. The first time in 2002, when it was released, I was so so bad in english that I had absolutely no idea of what she was singing. I even didn't understand the meaning of the songs titles. I enjoyed the album only for the tune, the melody, the voice, the spirit and the emotions you can feel when you listen it, only by the music and the voice expression. The second time, later, in 2004, when I was able to understand the meaning, the story behind every songs, damn.... it was so good !! Nowadays I can listen it in loop and I enjoy it the same. I know the nostalgia plays a huge part in this process, because it reminds me a bygone era, as much for me as for Avril. Let Go is and will remain her best album.  I LOVE this mashup! You are SPOT ON with your post. Yes, you really do have to time travel back to 2002 to understand just how different Avril was at the time. Everything was plastic and glam. I remember the first time I turned on MTV, saw complicated and was like, who is this kick-a** girl breaking stuff?! haha. She was a breath of authenticity for that time. There weren't many contemporary female artists playing instruments and dropping tracks like Unwanted, Losing Grip, Sk8er Boi and it was just cool. Avril was a new sound at a time when people were yearning for something like her. I believe that played a huge part in her success in the early 00's. Plus to me the album had kind of a throwback 90's vibe, which brought back some nostalgia from my teens as I was turing 20 when the album dropped (omg I'm so old lol). Add all that with a fresh female voice and I was hooked as fan. I don't know if that makes sense but it's how I feel about her first album. I can still listen to it today and love every song. Let Go, ROCKS!!! I still have the original CD! |

Let Go will always be her best album, she will never top it.PERIOD
The lyrics are just excellent, they tell a story, they have creativity.. when i was a kid i didn't believe the story that she didn't write much in this album, then seeing the difference, the HUGE difference among her future albums, i accepted the truth. It's sad, very sad, but she could have learnt from them..but she went from I thought you'd come around when I ignored you So I thought you'd have the decency to change to Don't know how much you screwed it up.
You never listened.
That's just too bad.

The sound is still fresh, her vocals are amazing, her prime voice of tone gives chills.
It's her best.

I was 12 when Let Go came out and loved it.
I remember buying this in the record store and listened to it sooooooo often, everyday.
And took it with me when we went on holiday to Portugal and my dad rent a car and I put the cd in the cd-player in the car! So my dad, brother and I listened to it together haha!

Everything from the album art to the way it starts off strong on the very first notes of Losing Grip, this album was something I listened to over and over on the CD player. The overall sound and topics were just what I needed. Plus, this was a cool, hot girl leading a rock band and doing so in a way that generation really wasn't familiar with. Who was she? How is she so good vocally at such a young age? What? She can play guitar too? The thing I like most about the album was that every song was good, but it was DIFFERENT! She didn't have a "sound" as much as she was an artist with a band and we got a nice variety of songs without sounding like they were placed onto the album at random. Her sound was her voice. Losing Grip sounds nothing like IWY or Tomorrow and you know what? It worked! It's an interesting ride with singable meaningful lyrics.
