There was a saying that Avril liked to sneak few songs sounded differently to forcast the sound of the next album. I Always Get What I Want and He Wasn't maybe part of it.

I love both equally but I feel like I can listen to MHE hundreds of times without starting to feel sad whereas if I listened to Nobody's Home the same amount of times I might start to feel sad because its a sad song about a girl who's lost inside and wants to to home but when she goes home nobody is there. But I also love that song, I just need to be more in the mood

Not Gonna Run A full version of Daydream and a whole unheard song? I would be happy tbh. I listened to UMS yesterday and enjoyed it a lot more than I remember. I would say there's 7 songs that are good, 2 ok and 3 I don't really like (though not as much as I used to and they don't ruin the flow of the album) |

Avril will proably do the 2022 (or 2024) version of Daydream like she did with Breakaway She should re-record Daydream and Take It and release that as an anniversary single instead of reissuing the full album imo. |

I think both songs are great, but My Happy Ending is better. My Happy Ending sounds more angry and I think Avril's voice is better at expressing anger.

For me it goes to my favorite song of all time, My Happy Ending, there was a reason she wanted it to be the first single from UMS.

For me, it's easily "Nobody's Home".
"My Happy Ending" is undoubtedly a great song, but I feel like I overplayed it ages ago, whereas NH is a song I can still listen to and enjoy. I also like the topic of NH much, much more. MHE, meanwhile, is completely unrelatable to me personally.

MHE is my overall favorite Avril song. I wouldn't be here without that song. I get so into it. Like that song gets me lol
Nobody's Home is great but I have an issue with the instrumental. It works but there's a lot going on. And it's not like it's a straight up rock song...it just sounds weird. Idk how to explain it. I think I started liking the song because of the acoustic versions she's played live. And somehow I got used to the instrumental that now it doesn't really bother me.

My Happy Ending
Fall To Pieces
Nobody's Home
He Wasn't
I think the album would be more successful & would impact more to the mass if My Happy Ending & Fall to Pieces were place in the frontline of single line up. I can totally understand why Don't Tell was the carrier single followed by My Happy Ending. The build up really fits the album theme. And if it wasn't for Don't Tell Me, I would not be an Avril Lavigne Fan. LOL. I'm on the verge of being Britney Spears fan that time because of Toxic.

Unpopular opinion (maybe): Strong album concept and production wise, but her weakest in themes and lyrics. With the exception of Take Me Away and How Does It Feels where I think she pushed herself to something less literal, most of the album has really bland lyrics (Together, Forgotten, Slipped Away) and revolves around the angst of "You hurt me, I hate you" or "I'm sad". I think it is a perfect album for a teenager, as it much feels like a teenagers diary, but I can't relate too much into it in my 30s.Still one of my favorites. Don't tell me has a strong message. I love NH even if she rhymes home with home. And MHE will always be one of her strongest singles. Part of me would wish for her to recapture the music and production of UMS with the vocals and lyric composition of HAW. Is it weird that I CAN still relate to the whole album very much in my 30s? 🤣 |
