it's not a bad song, to me is one of the weakest in LS if not THE weakest (but DTLM will always be bottom in her discography). Bois Lie just has that chlidish Disney sound to it which i think throws off most of people. It doesn't suit neither MGK or Avril. Maybe a collab between Miley and Nick Jonas in 2009 would've been ok for this song.... but 2022 Avril and mgk, both in their late 30s...?
LS suffers from a "childish" sound overall but i would say it's more toned down in the rest of the songs and it fits the album theme better than "bois lie, i can too..." said not even teenagers back in 2005 💀

I need an american perspective and and british one on the whole "Avalanche" thing because for the love of God i can't understand where exactly she says it "wrong"?? Even Google Translate say it like Avril, so i'm really confused if this is an american thing, canadian accent thing or what?? Same goes with "bananas" in Goddess. Which i get the lyrics in itself are weird and quircky to say the least but that's how you spell it ( )

Maybe it’s her LA accent playing a role but I can tell you the way northeastern people pronounce those words is like “buh-nan-uhs” (not “buh-nah-nuhs”), and “Av-uh-lanch,” not “av-uh-lonch”

I just assumed the pronunciation of bananas in Goddess was a choice to make it work with the song
Avalanche to me just sounds like she’s pronouncing it like the queen would lol Ava-laaaaahnche

As a non-native speaker, I also think that during "Cannonball" she sometimes pronounces it like "Canniball." Does that make sense?
I thought it was purposeful to provide some cohesion with "Bite Me," but since you're talking about her pronunciation, I'd like to hear your perspective.

She says Bananas and Pyjamas in Goddess the same way we usually do in British English. I didn't even think anything about it until people here said it sounded weird and I remembered Americans say those words differently. I just assumed Canadians go with British pronunciation.
Avalanche, I don't know. That's not the British pronunciation she's using. It sounds maybe even French influenced so maybe that's a thing in Canada.

As a Canadian I can clarify a few things: Bananas and pyjamas are normally pronounced the American way here. I'm not sure why she chose to pronounce them the British way since they rhyme either way..? Maybe she thought it sounded cuter or quirkier this way. She's always pronounced some words strangely.
Avalanche she pronounces normally (for Canada) on the record. But live at Rock in Rio she was singing "aw valanche" instead of "ah-valanche". Who knows why lol

It's funny cause as a non-native english speaker (even though i've lived in canada for a few months), I only notice this weird accent after I read it here

No, we don’t usually pronounce the end of Avalanche in a French way here in Canada (except people learning English in Quebec maybe). That’s an Avril thing lol. And she only does it sometimes. I think it ties in with her random odd accent that she does (recently discussed in other threads like the Greatest Hits tour one). Maybe to sound unique..? No idea. I liked her more natural different pronunciation of words in her first few albums but lately it’s getting a bit overboard, in my opinion. Perhaps it’s not intentional and is health-related…? No idea. I’ve wondered about this since 2002.

Again, Google translate says the same way as Avril, that's why i asked in the first place. Maybe there's a slight difference that i'm not able to hear bc i'm not native BUT what i hear, it's pretty much the same as the Google version lol

Dont Tell Me is a superior song compared to My Happy Ending. The older I’ve got, the more I appreciate DTM and I can see why it was chosen as the lead single.

Lol that is controversial! I prefer DTM (my fave Avril song!), but I think MHE is a better song. I see both sides

DTM used to be one of my least favorite ones from UMS until i grew up and idk....it just hits differently, the melody is actually very catchy (we love you Evan, as usual) and the lyrics are something very mature for Avril (in their own teenage drama way), but integrity and pretty much an anti hook up culture song is not what you hear on the radio everyday, so i'm really happy that DTM exits. Now is one of my favorites from her.
I wouldn't say it's superior to MHE since mhe's bridge will always be her best bridge and will always be her best break up song. Even NH is superior to me, but DTM is very close. A very underrated track.
DTM, MHE and NH carry 80% of UMS's quality. Yes, i said it. Special metions to TMA and FTP tho.

DTM is top 5 Avril songs for me. Absolutely loved the meaning, and music video. So glad it was a single
