I really like Avril Lavigne despite it not being a cohesive piece. My true unpopular opinion though is that "Falling Fast" and "Hush Hush" are the album's low points for me. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the songs, but they never clicked with me like the other songs on the album. Now THATS a take!

Out of all the ballads in TBDT era, my favorite is I Will Be. Mine as well! It's the best, but KHO is close, followed by Innocence and the single is last on my list.

I'm not sure if this is an unpopular opinion (so please excuse if it turns out this is popular!), but I think "Losing Grip" was not a good fourth single choice. Yes, it got her a Grammy nomination, but I think it prematurely ended the era. Arista wanted to release "Anything but Ordinary" instead and I think that would have been a better choice. "Losing Grip" only peaked at number 64 in the US which is a major difference from the three top ten hits she had prior. I like that it kind of acted as a bridge to Under My Skin, but releasing another song produced by the Matrix ("Anything but Ordinary" or "Things I'll Never Say") likely could have got Avril another hit and, depending on its success, a fifth single from the album (which then could have been "Losing Grip"). Not to say commercial success is everything though, as the song did show people Avril could do something a little heavier than "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boi" and that she wasn't just the Matrix's project. I just think there was more opportunity there with the album, especially as whenever I listen to Let Go, "Anything but Ordinary" and "Things I'll Never Say" just scream single to me.

Yeah, honestly Losing Grip doesn't really scream "single" to me either. I didn't even know it was a single until earlier this year.

While I agree, I think Avril wanted to release it since it was her favorite song and she probably thought since she had already had 3 consecutive hits she had “earned” the right to put out what she wanted rather than what would be most successful. I don’t think anyone expected it would be a hit.

I feel like she had to either put out either Losing Grip or Unwanted. She was billed as this rock chick when in reality none of her songs matched her image at all. Whilst I agree TINS and ABO are more single-worthy songs, they were even further from the image she was trying to portray than the 3 singles before them.

Anything but ordinary would have been a great choice. The soaring melodies of that song are so free, like a bird. It's so catchy and unique. Love that song

Great opinion and so true… especially ABO is very very pop, the beginning of the song with the ‘La’s” screams teen pop star.. she wanted to let the audience know she also had some rock in her songs.

Having given another listen to TINS and ABO I do think ABO would of been good single material. Having said that though I do agree with the others than whilst they are both nice, good songs, I do think picking something like Losing Grip kept with her image (and the records image) at the time, espesically going into UMS. Ultimately I think it was the right choice, but hindsight is a wonderful thing, who knows? ABO/TINS could of done very well at perhaps the cost of being slightly inconsistent with her already established image at the time.
