First time hearing this, kinda reminded me of "Drive" by Incubus (also known as the song from the Shia Labeouf penguin surfing movie lol), at least in the production/verses. That bridge is also hilarious, ["Well blah blah blah blah blah blah" - Avril Lavigne] would be one hell of a yearbook quote haha. Incubus - Drive (Surf's Up Visualiser)I love Incubus (and I like that visualizer, lol), their one of my favorite bands. Drive is such a great song, and now that you that point that out comparison, yeah I can see that. Yeah and that bridge is indeed hilarious and absolutely unforgettable! That would be the best yearbook quote ever, lol
BTW, is that your YouTube Channel (2000s Nostalgia FM) where the visualizer video is from?
Another song of Avril's that kind of reminds me of Incubus is 'Losing Grip', I'm curious if you can see that comparison?
But I some how completely missed the Shia Labeouf's penguin surfing movie, but now I'm going to make a point of watching it, thanks for cluing me in on that. Shia gets a bad rap, but I really like him in spite of it all. I've honestly liked every movie role I have seen of his, but now I know I have not seen them all, lol.
Back around I think about 2006 or 2007 there was a picture of Avril Lavigne and Deryck Whibley talking to Brandon Boyd of Incubus, in what looked like a random encounter in downtown LA. And I thought it was a really cool photo, and because I loved everyone's music there, and all the great music those 3 individuals were responsible for making come to fruition. Looking back I really wished I had saved it, but of course I didn't. And sadly, I haven't ever been able to find it since.
Speaking of Incubus, many years ago I randomly bought their DVD 'The Morning View Sessions' and have nearly wore out that DVD. I would take it on trips and play it. Now all my friends love it too. I subsequently later bought their audio CD called 'Incubus - Morning View' which is just the songs from the DVD, but in CD format. The back story on the 'DVD Incubus - The Morning View Sessions' is they found this great big house on the California coast and basically turned it in to a mini concert hall, just for this DVD. it kind of has a bit of an MTV unplugged session feel to it. But it's not unplugged! You could watch the full concert on YouTube for years, but it was never in HD. But that just recently changed, as of a month ago. Now you can see the full concert in HD. Maybe you already know it well, but if not, i'm posting it right here.

Lol no, it is a cool name though. I just picked it because I wanted there to be a Surfs Up background and the actual scene in the movie only has the chorus in it. Another song of Avril's that kind of reminds me of Incubus is 'Losing Grip', I'm curious if you can see that comparison? Definitely hear it, chorus has that same kind of wall of sound, thick distorted guitar that a lot of Incubus songs have, like in "Wish You Were Here". And then those unique variants of the record scratch, (I think thats what that sound is?), sound effect thats all over Let Go are also very prevalent in Incubus. Not sure if that's a direct inspiration or if that was just a thing at the time tbh, I know Limp Bizkit used the record scratch a lot as well in that time frame (though kind of in a different way). But I some how completely missed the Shia Labeouf's penguin surfing movie, but now I'm going to make a point of watching it, thanks for cluing me in on that. Haven't seen it since I was a kid tbh, but I loved it at the time. I know a few people who like to watch it when they're high or after they come back from the bar, honestly not sure what that says about how it has held up lmao. But yeah on the Shia front, I haven't really looked into what he's done, just know he got in trouble, but I am a fierce apologist of his actual acting. I am one of the few people that liked his character in the fourth Indiana Jones, the whole movie is over-hated tbh. I hate that about the internet sometimes, there's so much stuff it can be hard to find stuff again years down the line. And sometimes you don't save things because you assume there's no reason to, but then it gets deleted by the poster and you've lost it forever. For example, Sturgill Simpson did this awesome cover of "Speed of the Sound of Loneliness" by John Prine for Prine's funeral a few years back, and the Prine estate had it taken down from youtube. I get pissed at myself for not saving that video somehow about once a week lol. Definitely will give it a watch. I'm a sucker for MTV Unplugged so if its anything like that I'm sure I'll like it. Wow thank you for answering all my questions. I was really rambling on last night. Sorry about that. I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees some of the same crossover in some of Avril and Incubus songs. It's cool that you see Shia's acting as well preformed too! I agree with you about his acting in Raiders too. That's funny that people see Surf Up, as a stoner movie. But that definitely makes sense, lol. Yeah that is a really sad that the family took down Sturgill Simpson's cover of John Prine's song. It had definitely left a lasting impression on a lot of people. Maybe it was just too painful for them to keep it up. Perhaps the healing power of time passing will soothe the pain and they'll release this tribute to honor his memory. Fingers crossed!
I just started watching that video link I posted and the I noticed the aspect ratio is a bit off. And it looks like it's upscaled from 480P and not really true HD. Oh well, you can still see it in smaller segments in higher quality, or just by the DVD used for $5 dollars off Amazon.

Wow thank you for answering all my questions. I was really rambling on last night. Sorry about that. No need to be sorry, I had a fun time with it. I can talk about music and movies all day long lol. Oh that is very good to know, because I feel the same about discussing these subjects too!

So good. Fat boy! Lol. Such an underappreciated band outside of this song, their 1998 album is an actual masterpiece. It's a real shame the way people treated Silverchair, just thinking they were just a Nirvana ripoff. Same thing happened to The Stone Temple Pilots, people thought they were a ripoff of Pearl Jam. Some people can be so moronically stupid, I can only hope these same people don't have offspring, Lol
Both Silverchair and The Stone Temple Pilots have more than proven themselves to be rock solid bands in their own rights, and completely agree that Silverchair is underappreciated; and severely underrated.

Song kicks ass. Johnny Cash’s cover of it is also awesome, his was the first I’d heard because it was in Call of Duty Black Ops 2 zombies lol. Tom Petty helped record the Cash version, which is cool: Johnny Cash - Rusty CageCash talking about how he came to cover a Soundgarden song: Johnny Cash & Larry King talk Rusty CageAgreed, this song truly does! I remember buying this CD and being so excited about playing it on a road-trip to Canada.
I didn't realize it was in Call of Duty Black Ops 2 zombies, now I'll have to go buy that game! ;-)
I had heard the Johnny Cash version, but kinda forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder. But I didn't realize Tom Petty was involved, that makes this even cooler still. I've been an avid fan of Tom Petty's work. It's so sad to think that all these 3 of artist these are now gone. But what a legacy that all 3 have left behind. They may be gone, be they are definitely not forgotten!
It's so cool that Johnny Cash started doing covers of contemporary rock music. It really seemed to give new life to his career. Talk about going out on a high note! Thank you for posing the video showing both Johnny & Tom! And the interview with Larry too!

It's so cool that Johnny Cash started doing covers of contemporary rock music. It really seemed to give new life to his career. Talk about going out on a high note! Thank you for posing the video showing both Johnny & Tom! And the interview with Larry too! Yeah, it's really sad to think that they're all gone. What happened with Cornell is heartbreaking, especially considering it contributed to Linkin Park's singer following suit two months later. Fighting those demons for as many years as they did, just to ultimately lose the battle, it's just really sad. But as you said, gone but not forgotten. Their music is still here, helping people who are going through the same stuff they did. On a lighter note, yeah that Cash late career resurgence is pretty incredible. Not something you really see ever. A lot of people don't know that Cash was essentially "washed up" and not considered cool at all in the 70s/80s. Rick Rubin helped create a ten year run from a 60 some-ought year old guy, that was arguably better than the already legendary run the same guy had 30-40 years earlier. It may be eclipsing my mind, but I honestly can't think of another such example. Oh yeah Chester Bennington, that was very sad too. I have often wondered why so many artists die young. My guess has been, that because some artists feel things so profoundly, that that is why they can make such beautiful art. But I guess the downside is that they also feel pain so profoundly, that want to stop it, and end it all too. I.E. Curt Cobain, Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, etc., etc. etc. ...
Yeah, I really can't think of another examples of artist who revived their career as profoundly as Johnny Cash!
It's also an interesting side-note that Trent Reznor of 'Nine Inch Nails' song 'Hurt' was hugely successful, yet Trent Reznor said he no longer owned the song, because of how well received Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt' was. That's quite a statement!
