You do realize what you just said could perfectly apply to Avril as well.... I mean, let's not forget she had to announce her engagement with Chad to a magazine, as well as invited them to the wedding to take photos, and then she went to another magazine to reveal she had Lyme disease. She could have done all that in private, but at least as far as the Lyme disease thing goes, maybe she shared it publicly to bring awareness. Bruce/Caitlin could be doing the exact same thing, just trying to bring awareness and make it more "normal." Just pointing out that it's really laughable to say Avril is a "private person" when she's clearly not and to try to act like she's above these other people. She dated one of them at one point, she used to be friends with people like Paris Hilton, so I think she's always been more into the Hollywood scene and into publicity/attention than she lets on that she is. She also let a magazine take photos of her first wedding as well. I don't think she's as "private" as she claims to be. Yeah, but Avril didn't get a show made on her disease. She had both her weddings photographed for magazines, and so did with her engagement, but that's not comparable to having an effing show about your family. Besides, she tried that both her engagement and her weddings were private instead of putting up a carnival like the Jenner-Kardashians do Yes she doesn't have a reality show, but that doesn't mean she still doesn't always reveal her business everywhere. I mean, it's just really hypocritical to criticize Bruce for appearing on the cover of a magazine, revealing his transformation, but then in the same sentence go "I am so glad Avril is not like that." Erm, really? She does this type of thing all the time, revealing her private life to the magazines. I used to believe her a long time ago when she said she wasn't into the Hollywood stuff and that she was private and all, but now I've just sort of grown up a little, taken off the OMG AVRIL IS SO COOL AND DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER CELEBS glasses, and realized she's probably just as hungry for attention as any other celeb in Hollywood is. She doesn't have to go to the lengths of having a reality show. I mean, she went into detail about her sex life with Chad on Howard Stern. And if she really cared about her weddings being private, she wouldn't invite magazines to be there to document it. There isn't anything wrong with her wanting to talk to magazines about her marriages or her illness, and in fact, it's really nice of her to want to share it with her fans so that we can at least see photos and feel like we shared in the experience with her. And I would actually totally watch if she had her own reality show, at least if it was about how she is recovering from her disease or any new music she is coming up with. Just like there's completely nothing wrong with Bruce making a show about his transformation. But it's really hypocritical to criticize one person for doing it and then praise another for doing the same thing, or to act like Avril is somehow any better or any different from other Hollywood celebs when she's shown that she really isn't. If she wants to go around revealing her private life to magazines, that's her choice, but let's not pretend like she doesn't do it or that she's any different than any other celeb who does the same thing. Also, not all reality shows are stupid and trashy. There is a TV show on TLC called The Little Couple, which is about a married couple who both have dwarfism and it's about how they live their daily lives, along with their 2 adopted children from China and India, who also both have dwarfism. It is the cutest show ever and it's actually really fun to watch. It brings more awareness to dwarfism and helps people understand more about what people who have it deal with, so that they can be better informed. And there are a lot of celebs who have reality shows that aren't necessarily like the Kardashians, for example Kellie Pickler is doing one. I think a lot of Avril's fans would love to see a reality show, as long as it wasn't too focused on the Chavril stuff, but more about her career and making music, touring, hanging out with her family and friends, etc. It could be an extended version of all those BTS documentaries that she's done. Not all reality shows have to be dumb or focused on scripted drama and they're not all the same.

We didn't know about her illness until very recently; she didn't make her relationship with Chad public until they were engaged; and both of them are issues that she couldn't just have hidden for too long. We don't know half of the things that have happened behind the scenes during her last two eras-even when they're surely tabloid-saucy. For example, all the Butch Walker drama. Her parents got divorced relatively recently and most of us don't even know about it. However, when I picture what Bruce/ Caitlin Kardashian would have done in any of those situations, is much less discreet. I'm not saying that all the reality shows are like that, but it's true that that's the impression my comment transmits. I'm only condemning the Great Brother/Jersey Shore/Keeping Up With The Kardashians/Honey Boo Boo kind. I must admit I don't know who Kellie Pickler is, but that other one you're talking about seems to be a good idea to raise awareness-since dwarfism is still one of the few disabilities that people still feel like it's "right" to make fun of. Something like what you describe is more what I'd call a documentary, so I guess I'd be OK with it.

Something like what you describe is more what I'd call a documentary, so I guess I'd be OK with it. Nobody knows the reason why he's doing it though. I mean, when Avril came out to a magazine to say she was ill, a lot of people wondered why she would reveal it through a magazine instead of just writing a blog or tweet, or posting a video on her YouTube. A lot of people tried to defend her and say "Well she probably did it because it would raise more awareness," which is very likely to be true, because Avril herself struggled a lot with getting a proper diagnosis and I'm sure she wouldn't want others to endure what she did. But how do we know Bruce isn't also doing the same thing? How do we know that he is trying to be a role model for others going through the same thing so that they don't have to go through what he did for all those years? That's my point. Why are we all so certain that one person is talking about their private life just for the money, while Avril wasn't? For all we know, Avril did all that stuff just for the money too. I'm just saying, it's totally stupid to even compare them. I mean, if someone wants to believe Bruce is doing it purely for money/attention, that's their opinion and they have the right to believe that. But why even bring Avril into this at all? What does she have to do with it? What point is there in comparing the two? There's really no reason to bring up Avril here or to compare them, or be like "I am so glad she values privacy," when that isn't even really true. It's just a pointless comparison. A few years ago Kesha had her own reality/docuseries called My Crazy Beautiful Life which followed her around on tour and documented her life while she was on tour and working on new music. Avril could potentially do something like that.

Avril was totally a fame whore back in the day (more so around the best damn thing era). I am not sure if she has changed much now. But I agree with Bogo, and actually it reminded of that time years ago when she was with Deryck and she played off seeking paparazzi attention as a "joke" for a TV show that she was pregnant. Remember? She said something along the lines of I'll show you how stupid paparazzi are and pretend I'm pregnant etc etc. I can also remember Avril saying in some videos back in 07ish that she would avoid being photographed by the paparazzi at all cost because she knew all the hot spots in LA to avoid like The Ivy and then a few days later she was at The Ivy and then to all the flashy nightclubs with Paris Hilton and stuff.

Yes I don't believe just because she hasn't gone to the extent of having a reality show or hasn't discussed EVERYTHING about her private life that it doesn't mean she still does it sometimes, and probably for a big paycheck too. I think Avril is great and I admire and respect her a lot, but I also don't necessarily believe everything that comes out of her mouth. She has a habit of contradicting herself, for example claiming she's against Hollywood but then hangs around with Paris Hilton and dates a reality star. Or making fun of artists like Britney Spears but then starts dancing in her videos and sings to backing tracks onstage. Saying she doesn't like to show off her body but poses for a men's magazine 3 times. She has a "Hollywood persona" just like any other celeb does. I really doubt she acts exactly the same when she's just with her friends and family as she does onstage and in interviews. I'll always love her and think she's great, but I also don't foolishly believe everything that she says or be naive enough to think she's really as "real" and down to earth as she claims to be. Every celeb, even the most genuine ones, still have their "celeb" persona and their "real" persona and Avril is no different.

I get people's concerns about the family but I don't think Caitlyn would be doing this for attention, transgender isn't a widely accepted or understood thing so why would anyone want to do it so publicly if it wasn't to raise awareness? No matter what the real intentions are its no doubt been a good thing for anyone struggling with the same issue, the reaction has been really positive. Their lives are so public she didn't really have any choice but to do it like it has been done. Also let's remember she isn't a Kardashian she's a Jenner and they're much more respectable and famous in their own right without sex tapes to propel them into the limelight..

I agree. Unless she was paid some ungodly amount of money that no one could refuse to do this, I think most people wouldn't willingly subject themselves to this so publicly, knowing there will still be lots of ridicule and nasty remarks, even if a lot of people are supporting her, unless there was a much bigger reason behind doing it, such as to help others with the same problem.

I mean, there's a strong possibility she's been paid that amount of money or at least expects to get it-if you add what she'll be paid for exclusives, interviews and so on to her part of the show's publicity revenue, I'm sure we're talking about figures with 6 zeros.

Oh, I'm sure that she's getting a mint for all this exposure, because of course every magazine and TV network wants to get the "story" because it will get a lot of attention and viewers which = $$$$$$. But unless all she cares about is money, and doesn't care about the comments from the public, I can't imagine anyone would subject themselves to that kind of hate even if you were making 6 figures. I mean, most of us would rather live a nice private life out of the public eye than have lots of money, if we had to choose. Which is why I think she's doing it to help people and to bring awareness to the situation, besides just doing it for the money and attention. You'd have to be seriously screwed up in the head to subject yourself to this kind of hatred and public comments just for money.

It's not that he/she appeared in the cover of a magazine. That would be totally alright, I guess. He is doing absolutely everything in his/her reach (OK, this pronoun thing is getting messy) to make money out of it. And she is not revealing her private life to magazines all the time. A few years ago Kesha had her own reality/docuseries called My Crazy Beautiful Life which followed her around on tour and documented her life while she was on tour and working on new music. Avril could potentially do something like that. OK, I wasn't going to respond, because tbh "Thyarchery" said it all very poignantly (thanks for that ... but I feel the remarks "Bogo" makes are directed at my comments too, so here goes: When you're talking about "The Kardashians/Jenners" and that realityshow...we're talking about a blended family that made their claim to fame through a leaked sextape from one of their offspring. These people aren't known for singing/acting careers, academic efforts, humanitarian endeavors....nothing like that... They made their fortune simply by exploiting their hollywood lives and having a alma mater (Kris Jenner) who is so desperate to keep her and her family relevant at any costs. She sold her soul and family values to do it; that son Rob is a mess and left the show, from what I get out of the media. All that the other ones do, is try their hardest to stay in the picture (down to getting pregnant and televising it...really why is that news?!?). Simple as that. Kris' ex husband (Rob Kardashian) was the accomplished one in the family as a high profile attorney. She rode that wave hard then left him and latched on to a washed up, but still olympic champ Bruce. Now Bruce was an accomplished olympic athlete (perhaps against his inner wishes) but totally sold out when entering that family;...apparently at that time knowing full well he wanted to be a woman. He chose to be a part of that tabloidy existence....he wasn't relevant anymore and had his own struggles to deal with. Why put all that shit on television in the first place...Now they've reached a point of no return. They're addicted to the limelight and know they will vanish into oblivion if they stop. He can do good for the Transgender community without doing a shot by shot tale of the actual transitioning on national TV. He knows it's sensational for a lot of people and wants this time in the spotlight after being minimized for years in that Kardashian household. I do believe he wants to be a good and caring father to his children, but the fact that he lived this lie for so long makes me wonder why all of a sudden he wants to go public at 65, knowing it hurts his children more than anyone. He can be open and happy behind the scenes too. Especially now that he's divorcing Kris. To me it shows he's just as hooked on the glitz and glamour. It's really pathetic and I don't see how it will help that transgender community for him to do this show...he could do speaking events around the country, start a foundation or do some Public Service Announcement. The General public won't get more understanding of this particular group, if anything they will probably be more ridiculed because their lives are nothing like Bruce's, a part from wanting to transition; their everyday struggles go unheard and that won't change. I really don't see how it will benefit anyone a part from Bruce, his wallet and his twisted family. Unless he plans to donate all the proceedings from this "journey" to that cause it's another way to stay relevant. The reason I brought Avril into the conversation/comparison was because someone wondered if she'd reached out to Bruce (because of her former 'attachment' to one of his sons). I felt I had to mention that she totally is a private person when it comes to her personal life. I wouldn't call that "stupid" tbh. Avril is a public figure because she's a global, multiplatinum selling and award winning artist. But apart from her time in LA when she was with Brody/Deryck she never bought into that whole life of getting paps on your tale and making sure you're being followed by a camera when you leave the house. That time when she and Deryck fooled the paps with the fake pregnancy...that was just to show how stupid the paps really are, running with every ounce of bogus information just to get a story. That was funny. All the stories about hanging with Paris and living the nightlife, yeah she was in her early twenties living it up, not seeking the paps to haunt her down. She quickly grew tired of it. She's even said that LA 'never felt like home' to her; simply because of the shallowness I've talked about before. She lives in Canada for god sakes. Nothing ever happens there and it allows her to live her life with family and friends when she's not promoting stuff or touring. She's accomplished a lot and in doing so she's gained a lot of fans who are interested in her life as well as her career. But still she's mostly low-key about private stuff and only seeks the media if she feels it will inform fans, promote her endeavours (like charity and albums). That's what artists do. And the fact that she went to the media to inform folks about her engagement/wedding/illness was so that her fans would be informed about these important moments in her life. Not for money or fame (which she has already). She never went public whilst dating Chad, the wedding was very private and she wouldn't have talked about her illness if she didn't feel others could benefit from her experience and a timely diagnosis of lyme disease. During AL, yeah Chavril were in the picture a lot. Go figure he co-wrote/produced more than half the record and they were a newly wed couple. That's news worthy, to the fans if no one else. The fact that media went wild with it (down to inventing rumors/lies about the status of their relationship) isn't their fault. She never commented on the lies spread about her and her relationship. She went on with her life when she could've instagrammed her ass off with pda shots. When Chad did promo for the new NB record and Avril was MIA (because of her illness) they both could have killed the rumors simply by saying she was ill. But they didn't, because it's their private business and they will say stuff on their terms in their way. She still is very low-key on social media and only uses it for charity and music stuff. A little cuddle with the hubby in the studio when she's letting us know she's recording new songs can hardly be considered 'too much' when half of the fandom has been craving a sign of their union for almost a year. There are celebs who get a pass for a lot more private stuff they put out there on a daily basis... So yeah...Avril's life values, lifestyle and true accomplishments are totally different from that of the Kardashian/Jenner freaks; bar Bruce's olympic gold medal which was epic and unique...but since then not so much. As for there being "other good reality tv shows"....if you say so...I'm just not into it. Most of them to me are attention seeking vehicles for regular people who otherwise would lead normal lives in obscurity or for washed up former "stars" that look for ways to stay relevant. Rather painful to see, but "different strokes for different folks" I guess.

[just a small comment to the off-topic discussion: I would love to know everything about Avril but I would never ever watch a reality-show from her. That would be just as Anti-Avril as her posing topless for playboy or something like that]

Everything that you just said proves my point. You act like you know all this stuff for a fact, that Bruce is only doing this for money/attention, but Avril only did her stuff to inform fans and not at all for money and attention. The truth is that nobody knows why either of them are doing it. Your opinion is so obviously biased towards Avril, of course you think she did it to only keep her fans informed. If that were true, why did she have to go to magazines about it? Why not just tweet, write a blog, or post a video? I highly doubt that she didn't at least care somewhat about the money she got from it. She even endorses products she never uses, like that Black Gold game and Chinese iced tea. But I'm sure you'll just come up with some biased excuse for that too. All I'm saying is that it's really biased and unfair to be making claims as though you definitely know the reasons why these 2 people did the things they did, when fact of the matter is that no one does except them. And because we're all Avril fans, I get that we want to think the best of her and think she does everything with the best of intentions, but lets face it. She's not perfect. Like I said, she endorses products she clearly doesn't use, which means she did it simply for the money and publicity. Just because she's not associated with a reality show or family who does one doesn't just excuse her actions and make her any better than them. I'll bet if she suddenly came out with a reality show you'd find some kind of excuse for her doing that as well. "Oh she just wants to keep the fans informed!" Give me a break.
