I know Avril’s no old lady but I also think being near 40 limits what she can do physically, Lyme aside. I remember her saying she injured her back while trying to get off the drum set during LS tour. I myself am a decade younger than her but already my joints are not what they used to be, I’ve twisted my knee very easily just by something as simple as turning too quickly while walking or something. I don’t think she’ll ever be the performer she once was a decade plus ago, I think that’s just not a fair standard to hold her to when she was a lot younger and more physically fit/active then. Britney Spears injured her knee a couple times in her prime and she was never able to dance the same way since. I just remember seeing Avril on the HAW tour and noticing she was trying her best to be energetic but you could tell she had to hold back at times and that it was like she couldn’t go as hard rocking as she used to, like she had to be careful not to hurt herself or deplete all her energy.
Frankly I don’t know that she’s ever been some super passionate performer, even at her peak. She’s had her moments over the years of exceptional performances, for sure, but she’s always been a bit deer in the headlights, on autopilot while singing kind of mode. Was she ever actually a great artist/singer/songwriter/performer, or is it nostalgia and us being young when we first heard these songs that makes us think so? There are people that fondly remember Taylor’s debut era yet objectively her vocal performances were terrible back then. Fans acknowledge she’s since improved but they seem to look back on her early albums with nostalgia despite the bad vocals. We tend to look at things we liked as kids with rose colored glasses probably more than how we’d feel if we saw them now. I love LG and that whole era in general but I was also a child when it came out which certainly impacted my feelings for it. I’d never expect her to try to recreate something she did at 16 years old. I love that teen Avril but expecting her to still be that way now would be weird.

My biggest concern is that she's stuck in her 17 years old, lyrically and mentally. As a stage performer, she certainly doesn't seem as involved as she was until 2011. There's no growth in any aspect for years. She never seemed so bored on stage as she seems now. I don't want her to dress or act like a teenager. I just would like to see her more satisfied on stage. It's so frustrating for the fans seeing her like this way now.

I think it would be nice, if she can’t be more energetic on stage, to play more instruments like she used to. I can’t remember specifics but she used to do acoustic guitar, electric guitar and piano on her tours I think? I’d love to see that again. It’d give her something to do on stage when she’s not feeling it energy wise. I do agree she can seem bored on stage sometimes. She says she loves touring but she needs to tell her face that

Ok, that’s a fair criticism. I just think there’s a difference between saying “This performance lacks passion” and “She used to sing so passionately.” Like constantly comparing new performances to the old ones, idk? What does that accomplish? She still has good performances every now and then, she sadly isn’t consistent like Katy mentioned, but “she used to sing so passionately” implies she doesn’t any longer. Why the need to compare? I thought her FAH performance was good, it looked like she was putting in real effort to hit those notes. It looked plenty passionate to me. I think when she’s singing the old songs she’s sung a million times they’re “less passionate” because she can sing those in her sleep and most of them aren’t vocally challenging outside of IWY, which she always performs with passion. But when she has to sing something new like FAH or EWS she isn’t used to it and has to put more effort in, therefore it looks “more passionate.”

I love that teen Avril but expecting her to still be that way now would be weird. Honestly I agree with all of this. Age and Lyme definitely a factor and maybe wanting to save her energy for the high notes in songs. I will say the last 2 tours IWY has been her best in all her tours she sounds incredible on IWY when before she was kinda flat on it. Also I was watching concert videos of TTSMU tour, bones and best damn tour and I saw a lot of the stuff I see people complain about now with her just walking on stage and stuff. Sure maybe she jumped a little bit more but she was also in her late teens early 20s then. Now at 39 and combined with Lyme disease jumping might make her more sore. When j see her in August I’m not gonna care I’m gonna be dancing and singing to music I love with a musical I love. When I saw Taylor I was up and wasn’t really paying attention to her dancing and stuff I was just dancing and singing to the music. How I will be in August seeing Avril. Also I agree with the debut thing I was listening to all of Taylor’s albums leading to TTPD and debut was kinda rough lmao. So excited to hear TV with her mature vocals! Way more excited for debut tv then rep tv

While what the hell she “looks more passionate” cuz they’re higher notes or what you mentioned FAH or EWS too. Like she definitely still tries to sing passionately for sure especially when we get to songs like IWY MHE where she’s gotta hit higher notes.

I hope she plays acoustic and piano again in the GH tour. And also new visuals to broadcast on the screens, because we all know the setlist is going to be 95% identical to the last tour. I also hope she removes Bad Reputation, it's been here and there since 2008, I'm so tired of it

I know she struggled to sing it which is probs why it was dropped but even just using it as an intro video would be great. Id have like a video playing with Cannonball over the top, then when it gets to this bit: I bet you’re crying all alone every night inside of your bed Are you ready Are you ready Are you ready Let’s go Are you ready Are you ready Are you ready Let’s go She comes out at this point singing the “ticking time bomb….” etc and finishes the song (so she doesn’t have to do the verses cos that was where she struggled). Then straight into whatever her actual opener is.

I don’t mind if BR is kept as long as they update it to include scenes from LS.

BR isn’t an awful opening thing but I just think when she’s got a song as perfect for it as cannonball (are you ready are you ready are you ready let’s go… I’ll come in hot like a cannonball etc etc) I don’t understand why she’s still using a song she covered a million years ago that we’ve all heard 500 times

It’d give her something to do on stage when she’s not feeling it energy wise. I do agree she can seem bored on stage sometimes. She says she loves touring but she needs to tell her face that I mean this is the solution imo, the easiest one at least. Just give her one of her Teles to play for the songs. Doesn’t even have to be turned up very loud if she’s scared of messing up, (plus if it’s turned down she doesn’t have to always be strumming), but she can actually legitimately play guitar, take advantage of that, especially if the hands free approach isn’t really adding much to the concert. Playing guitar on stage gives you something to do with your hands at all times and gives you an excuse to not have to jump/run around. I think the style she has when playing actually has more energy than the jumping around thing anyways, she has a really cool kind of aggressive imprecise strumming style (in the music videos at least lol). Of course she could always take the Luke Combs approach and just carry a solo cup around the stage all concert lmao.

Yes, especially when she was on tour with her own record full of tracks that sounded very similiar to this song. It was great chance to promote a new non-single song.
To be honest this intro with footage of her entire videography only makes sense on this new tour, cause it's Greatest Hits tour, duh hahhaa but yes, i'd prefer something different this time. It's been 16 years since The Best Damn Tour. In 2008 it was interesting cause there were unseen footage of her music videos ("He Wasn't", "Girlfriend", "When You're Gone" and "Hot") on it.

I also hope a new song surfaces before the tour starts. People who go to listen to the hits would go back and stream the "new" song. and it would be a nice addition for all the fans to listen to a new song among the same old stuff.
