IT (2017)
After hearing several positive reviews and that even Stephen King himself loved the movie, I just had to watch it. But I was a bit disappointed tbh. It tries way too hard to be the scariest movie of all time, which eventually just results in it not being scary at all and me just sitting there, thinking "Okay, Pennywise, we got it, you're scary, next scene, please." Some scenes were also changed compared to the book, some were sadly left out completely. But I can forgive that. That book is over 1,000 pages long, that's a lot to put into just two movies.
On a positive note, the kids were really great, just like in the book. Those actors were simply fantastic.

Alien Covenant
Ironically, all the stuff with the Alien was what I least liked about it. The other stuff where Michael Fassbender pisses around with genetic experiments and talks philosophy with his twin was way more interesting to me. There's already a perfectly good movie about an Alien chasing people through corridors. It's called Alien.
Better than Prometheus tho.

"The Exorcist" (1973)
Shame on me, but I'd never seen this movie before until a couple of days ago.
I watched it on Netflix, they got the original version, so there's no spider-walk scene (I later watched that scene on YouTube, though).
Anyway, "The Exorcist" might be the best horror movie I have ever seen. I was and still am totally fascinated by it. I hardly found it scary at all, but it was still completely enthralling. The actors, the characters, the entire storyline were all so good. But what I loved especially about it was that certain calmness it had.
I feel like especially modern horror movies tend to concentrate mostly on making you jump with fright. There's always gotta be something happening in each scene and you are hardly left to catch your breath and calm down a bit. Those kind of horror movies can also be nice, but are just pretty stressful to watch after a while imo. I can never watch more than one or two movies like that in a week, and then I got enough for an entire month or so.
But all this... "The Exorcist" didn't have that. It took its time, it was calm and therefore really easy and relaxing to watch. And I think being able to find that perfect balance between being enthralling and calm at the same time is quite brilliant.

If you thought it was scary on Netflix, you should have seen it in the theater. I nearly jumped out of my skin. One of the most frightening movies I've ever seen in the theater was 'Event Horizon'. My daughter was terrified and spent most of the move with her t-shirt pulled up over her face. On the small screen, it was a total snooze.

Well, like I said, I actually didn't find it very scary watching it on Netflix. But I agree, I'd probably feel different about that if I could have watched it in theatre.

I saw IT at the cinema today. It was entertaining enough but I didn’t find Pennywise particularly scary at all.

It's a completely different reaction and emotion. This isn't to say a movie can't do both, but to me, scary is something that really gets under your skin [ ] and makes you think about it afterwards. What makes The Exorcist scary is the idea of an innocent child being possessed by a malevolent being, not loud noises and things jumping out at the camera. Of course it's a cliche these days, but the film is executed so well that I forget about the 50 million shit movies that ripped it off whenever I re-watch it. That being said, I would recommend The Exorcist III. As horror sequels go it really is excellent. You can skip the others lol.

A Space Odyssey 2010.
One of the books we read in book club. Pretty good film faithful to the book for most of the story, different to the book in places. In the book the Chinese land on Europa ahead of the Russians and the Americans and are killed by a mutant plant whereas in the film they drop a probe on Europa that explodes for no reason seen as a warning. Also when Dr Floyd has a vision of Dave Bowman whilst on watch on the Discovery in the book an image of Dave is made out of dust but in the film he is a real hallucination. The timing was different. In the book the warning given is 30 days to leave whereas in the film they are given 2 days notice. In the book the two space craft, the leonov and discovery, are strapped together with tape to escape the gravity of Jupiter whereas in the film they are docked together.
It's a strange book and I think it has made a really strange science fiction film. Nerdy but weird, left with more questions than answers after watching it. Couldn't read A Space Odyssey 2064, it was too nerdy. There's another book after that, the final Odyssey too.

American Assasin.
It‘s always hard for me to rate a movie but in general with movies it’s more I like it or I dislike it. Well, I’m more of a „series person“; but American Assasin was really good! Watched it with my parents who also enjoyed it and trust me, it‘s hard to find a movie all three of us like.

Blade runner 2064.
163 minutes long, this is a long film. Starts off by being very promising but it's just too long and hard to follow. Sorry. I enjoyed the cinematography and the science fiction side of things with futuristic cities and vehicles and farms and stuff like that but I was let down by actors mumbling their words so it was hard to hear what they were saying and I just found it hard to follow.
